Not again!!!!

Who gave it to Renault? Alonso?

Mosley knows that he can toss Dennis around like he wants to, but Briatore is a tough customer. I'm hoping that this will just be a load of hot air. I mean... hello??!? Isn't it common practice between engineers to carry along technical data when they move from team to team? JYS said that when he started building his team in early 1996, he hired engineers from pretty much all the other teams, that's why the 1997 Stewart-Ford SF1 was pretty much a developable mix of parts from other cars. The McLaren story was different because the data was given to them by an engineer from another team. This one is, as it looks like, about someone who WORKED for McLaren, but now WORKS for Renault and brought the data when he was hired.
Is it now illegal to hire engineers from other teams?

Rules are rules. Let's see if the FIA is consistent with the punishment if Renault is found guilty.

Perhaps Alonso was just planted in McLaren to destabilise the team and to get information....

Is this Mclaren trying to give Alonso a hard time? Perhaps. Well they have the right to do this, lets see if it's true.

The precedent was set with a serious issue, now we get the interesting part...

This first arose in September, in fact we already have a thread on it when it was first mentioned.

Like Super Aguri doesn't have Honda data...

The FIA Development Fund is going to become a ?1,000,000,000 slush fund at this rate.

lol? mclaren stole from ferrari, renault stole from mclaren?! wtf?

Then surely Ferrari should also sue Renault as they would have been using McLaren data obtained from Ferrari

The whole thing is completely absurd. Get over it F1.

It will get better. FIA will find a red Ferrari towel in Mclaren employee's bathroom, a pack of RedBulls in the fridge, a Honda CBR in the garage, a Williams Lego model, a Toyota Yaris parked outside & a bowling ball bag with BMW badge - > Mclaren will be fined a lot more than 100 million bucks...

It could get even worse if they found another 700 pages of "secret & mysterious information" called...Harry Potter & (whatever).

Very interesting blog from TopGear.com, someone please get rid of Mosley
F1 spying on itself

So, Renault are up in front of the beak on F1 spying charges. They stand accused of unauthorised possession of confidential McLaren technical information - coincidentally the very same charge that cost McLaren 50 million quid and all its points in 2007.

Seems Ferrari and F1's self-appointed conscience Max Mosley didn't quite think it through when they set about the witch-hunt against Ron Dennis back in the summer. So hellbent were they on sticking one on McLaren they forget the simple truth: that F1 is chock full of spies, gossip, shared information and technical 'borrowing', and has been that way since internal combustion first replaced horses.

Ergo, if you humiliate McLaren for doing what everybody knows everybody else is also doing, they're not going to take it lying down. They're going to fight back.

So, like contestants in the X Factor, the F1 teams now wait to learn who's going to be voted off next. This week it's Renault; next week it could be anybody (except, of course, the model of innocence that is Ferrari).

Whoever Fernando Alonso ends up driving for is stuffed before they even start, since we already know from the ruling against McLaren that the Spaniard is in possession of all Ferrari's car set-up and brake balance secrets. That's gotta be worth at least ?25 mill before we even start, eh Max?

How far will F1 let the charade go before it realises that repeated gunshots to the foot will inevitably leave it permanently disabled? Will Red Bull be fined for having a suspiciously similar name to Torro Rosso? How about fining McLaren for having Vodafone on their cars - a blatant rip-off of the 2006 Ferrari?

For gawd's sake let's get Mosley out of F1 and restore some sanity before the rest of his idiot chickens come home to roost, pecking the sport to death in the process.

Next year is going to attract even more viewers. Lewis not being a rookie anymore, Ferrari will be strong too, possibly BMW & Red Bull will catch em up.
Whatever team that hires Alonso will also make lotsa buzz.
I wanna see how Mclaren will cope with smaller budger & worst garage placement, how Lewis will be able to compete without Alonso's set-up data (i don't care if in a last couple of races he used his own). Plus the removal of tranction control will spice things up a bit...
