Myself and 2 friends have spent the past year making a control system for Christmas lights. The system was hand built from scratch including etching our own circuit boards. It allows me to program a light sequence and then control it with a computer. The music is broadcast with an FM radio transmitter that was built from a kit. My display this year is fairly small with only approximately 5200 lights. If you want to know more about the display please visit its website and or leave questions and comments here.

Nice work, but I'm a bit partial to this guy's version:

Whats your electricity bill like when it comes to this time of year? :p

Very nice though, VERY nice.

I don't know yet. It we just got it working this past weekend. It should not be that much more because the lights are blinking and we are pulling only about 20amps and 1800 watts at peak power.

Quite impressive... ;)

(Only 5,200 lights?)

Ya the people that go all out on these have over 100,000 lights. This is our first year, We will add more next year. We had a budget this year that we tried to stick to.

Reminds me of how much I love the trans siberian orchestra

If I lived next door to you and had to see this every day, I think I?d have you murdered long before Christmas ...

Seriously ... don?t your neigbours complain about this? Or is it just on ... an hour a day or something like that?

It?s impressive though, and kudos for your efford. But this would drive me nutz if I had to see this until christmas now ...

The show only runs approximately 4 hours a day. My neighbors have been very supportive so far and enjoy it. There has not been much traffic yet so as the traffic increases they might care more. I did tell them in advance what I was doing though.

Clark Griswold's lights > everything else!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation's FTW...i'm looking forward watching it again like I do every year.

Ha I forgot about that, That so describes this project - We did not have issues with someone flipping switches instead we had communication problems. All fixed now.

I upgraded the video to High Definition and added some titles. See it now on Vimeo. http://www.vimeo.com/423350
