Mercedes has carved out a couple of exclusive niches for itself and BMW wants in. Earlier we showed a CS Concept based 8 Series, which targets the four-door coupe of the CLS-Class. Simultaneously, BMW is also pursuing Mercedes territory with the all new V-Series (aka, RFK or PAS) which will be aimed at Mercedes' R-Class market and our spies have caught a prototype testing in Lapland.
The styling of the all new V-Series features a fastback design allowing more headroom than the X6 whilst simultaneously being smaller than the R-Class. The V-Series will be based on the 5 series platform and is likely to inherit its entire engine range.
Our spy photographer managed to get a couple of shots of the interior ? albeit heavily disguised, but it still reveals details such as the gear lever and iDrive.
As with all new BMW models, we are likely to see the V-Series in concept form possibly sometime during 2008 prior to the launch of a full production model in 2010.
The photos show 4 exterior shots, 2 interior shots and 2 renderings from our files.

Why don't they just make a "Design Your Own BMW" centre with a bunch of Etch-a-Sketches set up and a metalworking plant out the back and get this over with.

What is the point of this over a 5-series? Headroom?

Erm, there are 5-series and X5 already. And they still want to create something between those two?
Kinda pointless as the Merc R-class isn't really flying out of showrooms.

Although, there could be the same reason on the back as it is with Mercedes: More models they have on the same platform the better. That explains a bit why they are creating more and more models.

I love how bmw always put a million warning stickers about all the things that aren?t currently working on their test cars

People that actually spend money on this should be shot.. It dosent even look bigger than the 5 series, perhaps a little more trunk room.. But, really common!

It does have that facelift look doesn't it. Going up against the R-class....yeah, thats a maket you want. That said I actually really like the look of it from behind and in profile. Why, with a 5 series, a CLS fighter, and that X6 on the way, do we need this? Its just going to steal sales from other BMWs. I wish they would stop making shades of grey medium sized niche cars and just get on with a new 7 series already.
