The "New Toys" Thread

Damn, that does look like a good little player. I wonder if somebody sells them around here...

Yeah, it does. I'll be sure to check that out if/when my Creative ever dies.

Nice choice Peter3hg, iPods are overrated in the lower size segments.

Tom Tom's, Garmins, etc. ALL FTL

Alpine Blackbird ftw.

Got this last week, very very nice. Looks good at night too :D

II is coming out soon too i think, might already be out?

Sony Ericsson K810i. I'm a little disappointed that its not much different from the K800i which my friend has, but that doesn't really matter since this is an upgrade from an ancient nokia 6220. It has an excellent camera with a real flash and it's glossy mmmmmm

Fingerprints are a pain to clean though

Sony Ericsson W950i.
It has a little hard drive with 4GB of memory plus the mobile's own memory (30 MB).
It has no cam, but I don't care because what I'm most interested in it's the MP3 player which wors flawlessly!!!
There are hughe options of customization: I've got the ScummVM emulator on it so I can play classic LucasArts adventures while I'm travelling, and I also have a Megadrive Eumlator which also works great.

The only problem it's that the alarm clock doesn't work if you turn off the mobile :???:

Here are some pics:

It came with a nice protecting bag:

And here are two other toys I got.

An LG Flatron Wide monitor with TV connection (which became my new TV). My old TV decided to die the very same day I bought my PS3. At first, it really pissed me off, but this little accident gave me acess to HD heaven :p
And my beloved PS3 with my beloved GT5 :p

Sony Ericsson W950i.

Had it for quite a while now. Don't overuse the baggy, it'll tear apart at the edges sometime...
And don't buy new sticks if one breaks, try to repair them. I put one in a mold, took some of the orange plastic away, drilled a bit into the plastic inside the metaltube and filled it with transparent plastic (or whatever you might call it)
More stable now than the original sticks, and way better then the bad chinese rip-offs on ebay!

Yeah, I got big hands.

Late Christmas present(s)

I was hoping to last through the winter with the old ones, but...

^ Congrats... having new shoes is a good feeling, especially seeing your old tyres.

Meh, I've had a tire fail in a much more spectacular fashion. Your tread looks to still be attached. :p

Speaking of tire failure, just today in Italy i saw a car's wheel undress itself. No other damage.

I just get this one, iphone ready, no CD reader, Alpine, you know, no need to tell more :)

Heard / saw that happen to an 18 wheeler which was about 200 yards behind me, I swear to God it sounded like the tire exploded in my rear seat. After the initial pants crapping and realization that my car was fine I looked in the rear view mirror and saw bits of tire flying off the rear wheel of a tractor trailer I had been behind about a minute prior.

Wish they did one in the same design that wasn't kissing apple ass (normal display) and had a normal aux-in in the front. I'd definitelly buy it.

Ooohh... been fun catching up on this thread! It's been a while since I've got anything noteworthy... Still... Just over a year ago I bought a 500GB Western Digital Mybook (or whatever they're called - the black ones).
Anyway, it's been clicking a little lately and not wanting to accept files being copied to it. I'm really really annoyed and obviously don't trust it anymore, so I've bought one of these now instead:

seagate_freeagent_02.jpg

It broke the bank a little, but I'd rather be poor than lose 20GBs of my photos... (though I already have another back up too but I like to keep two backups just in case) as well as mucho music (can't be arsed to rerip it all from CD if something happens) and a few vids...

It was the 5 year warranty that did it for me - if Seagate trust their product that much, it ought to be fine... I hope!

Only had it since last Thursday - so far I'm impressed though.

Unsure what to do with the WD. I will finish copying everything off soon, give the Seagate a few tests to make sure all is good then reformat the WD and see if it's still problematic. If it's still working by then...

Oh - and my other new toy:

Too bad for your MyBook. I got a 500GB as well, hope it'll be running strong for quite some time. Its the Esata model, which has a blue ring.

I don't really like the styling of the freeagent, and since its connected to my HTPC and standing next to my big LCD... Well 5 years of warranty sound nice, though.

I have the Firewire version of the MyBook - also blue ring. Actually all three my external hard drives (including the new Seagate one) use Firewire as I find that easiest with the MacBook Pro.
I am miffed at the WD though. I reckon it's an isolated case, mind - I've got a couple of friends who bought the same around the same time and theirs are all fine. But sat next to my Maxtor OneTouch I bought back in '03 (that gets daily use), it's just taking the mick a little.

I must admit I wasn't too fond of Freeagent styling either - I bought it mainly due to the 5 year warranty and good reviews of it. However, in the (metal) flesh it does look very nice! (Though I'd rather the light was blue to match the other two and that it didn't go all around the enclosure). Still, looks are the least of my concerns... ;)

I've got the 320GB cheapo version (no firewire) and so far I've been impressed. It's streets ahead of the Iomega it replaced. The main part I like is the fact that it automatically switches on and off and is basically silent, unlike the Iomega.
