Early look: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Looks alright, but more of an evolution from the current coupe then a revolution, and since it should be "affordable" gets a  from me. Hyundai has really come a long way, I test drove one of the new Elantra's a couple of months ago and it really feels like a good, comfortable solid car, interior was fitted with nice leather and had a nice stepped gearshift gate. Only problem was with the sunroof, the safety mechanism wasn't working, so if someone stuck his head out and you accidentally closed it... then... :shock2:

If they can get refine the car more, like in their interior and reliability, then I'm sure it'll be well received too.

With these cars its like looking at a carbon copy of another company. I guess thats what makes the companies profitable though take a good idea and make it affordable. I guess thats what makes them infinitely unappealing though the lack of soul. Look at car companies that don't have a long history and you see that they copy something successful and yet it lacks something that the original has. I think they look at Infinity and Acura as their design department.

The long range goal for the them is to replace Japan to have Hyundai and Genesis a Nissan and a Infinity. Slowly bring KIA along for the ride as the more conservative car design as a safety net. As described once that Hyundai would be smooth like a stone from a stream and Kia as a rock from a field.

You are saying this because you have prejudice against the Hyundai brand. This car barely resembles any other car on the market.

Give us a convincing proof of how this car is a carbon copy of another car on the market. Otherwise, stfu.

Concept looked good, this does not.

For a more important matter: Is this RWD?

Yes! Turbo 4 or NA V6, both RWD, starting at around $18K (IIRC).

This from the guy that drives the most soulless car ever sold with a Jaguar badge on it, the X-Type?

You wouldn't know soul if it came up to you, kicked your ass, took your wallet, anally violated you, set you on fire, and glued a metal business card with its name and contact info to your chest when it left.

I have no prejudice against non euro-american car manufacturers my father owns two of them. I am not saying that they are bad cars just that the brand tends to concentrate on cookie cutter white goods. They are needed and can be quite fun. If you don't have large sums of money why should you pay for style. What I am saying is that a Soul of a company does not come from numbers of years in business but rather the ability to offer products that are unique.

As for the personal attacks I never said that my car was the most soulful thing to cut a curve my SAAB 9-3 was.

If you can't see the influences of Infinity in the design or Toyota in the company you should take a close look at the line up.

^ Only the facelifted G35 has similar rear lights like the Genesis though. It's only been out a few months.

With the engines it's going to be sold with, and the price. The fact that it's not getting "omg it's fucking ugly" responses like crazy means it'll do quite well. I can guarantee that it will have plenty of after market body kits and crap for it which should solve the blandness of it.

Personally I like it. It's nothing hugely special, but it's got potential. I also think the worst thing about it is the color.

Don't look at the lights they can be changed. Look at the trunk shape this is usually one of the surfaces that changes little when quarter panels are replaced for updates. The car design community is small and many could have replicated the changes that were implemented in the g35.

Also despite final production photos only coming to the attention of the public a few months ago there is the possibility that photos of the car were taken much earlier as well as spy shots, concept schemes and sketches, even the producer of the sheet metal press would have had general information that could have been procured in order to have the two cars closely mirror each other.

I can say pretty comfortably, that this wil steal exactly 0% of Mustang sales, as most car magazines are saying...

If you can powerslide it, then it's ok in my book. :driving:

Also, that interior looks pretty damn good. Overall I expect to see a metric shit-ton of these out and about, and for good reason too.

My only real complaint is with the buttons on the doors. The angle they're at looks like it might be a pain to use.

You have to look at this on the steering wheel and others will be seeing from behind :)

I like it. It may not steal sales from the "I want the retro mustang crowd" but for the people who want an inexpensive, reliable, RWD sports coupe that will inevitably have a nice after-market (it's a factory RWD turbo 4 for crying out loud, how can it not?), and get a warranty that will last longer than the many of the owners will to own, I think it'll do quite well.

I wouldn't be surprised to find this becomes the new s13/s14/s15 Silva/240sx.

Seriously, imagine for a second that this is NOT a Hyundai.

1) RWD
2) 4 cylinder Turbo
3) Pretty handsome looking
4) Cheap + long warranty

This combo would sell like HOT cake.

And also, don't call it the Genesis Coupe. Call it the Tiburon.

Exactly.
At first I thought it looked great and completely new image for Hyundai, but today I saw a couple of Tiburons and I could see a very strong resemblance between the Tiburon and Genesis. Why not simply call it Tiburon - third generation. Are they going to keep making the Tiburon?
