This is what my speeds are like when the Comcast powerboost kicks in for about the first 10MB of the file transfer, then it drops to 8mbs down, 768kbs up.

Not that great.

Well, I switched from 288k to 2M not too long ago, so I'm surprisingly faster than a lot of people here. I pay out the ass for it, though (459 SAR per month, or USD$122.4/77.49?/?62.10). The upside is that there are no limits, as far as I can tell. I've downloaded 12.73 GB in the past four days, for example. :D

Thats nice. Pity it will never happen in SA, cos they always want more money from you.

In SA, they give you a 3Gb cap, once you bust the limit, you gotta pay a ludicrous amount of moolah like R300, which is like close to $40 US dollars just to get another 3Gb limit.

Bloody leeches I tell ya, all they want is more and more money.

No way! Thats even worse than here! And how do you live with 3GB anyway, I mean thats only about 4 Top Gear episodes.

That's it? I do 7 to 10GB down a day on my 1.5mbit. :p

Well, my internet was out for one of those days, and I installed the tomato firmware (used to keep track of bw usage) on my router on the night of the first day.

Also, I just couldn't think of anything else to download. :dunno:

Far away:

It's advertised as 5/2 cable (with no limit, we don't do that in the US, yet :p) though, so the higher result is from the powerboost thing.

12 MB/s here and a data limit of 100 GBs/month

Which is plenty, even for pr0n!

How can you dl that much  and where do you keep it, is it just dl->watch->delete or do you have a black hole you put it in :|

like I said before : there is no harddrive in the world big enough, or a connection in the world fast enough, if you download porn :p

I like my Uni's line.

Everyday?

You don't have a TV?

Or a job?

Thats like 5-10 ripped movies, or 2-3 DVDs a day! Where do you find the time to watch it? I can't find enough stuff that I actually want to watch to get anywhere near that.

EDIT: I didn't mean for everyone to check long-distance servers, I was just saying that you could have the fastest connection available but that doesn't always mean you'll get lightning fast DL speeds. Americans and Europeans will generally be DLing from people close to them where as I am often DLing from halfway round the world. Also depends on the UL speeds of the masses and its clear from the posts here that UL is nowhere near DL speed in most cases.

Eh, it was still cool to check the long-distance and post it. Although I should have chosen someplace other than Tokyo. I checked with a server in South Africa, and the speed drop-off was far more considerable.

Wish my upload would be better :S

Does anyone here have fiber? I know AT&T or Verizon or someone is providing fiber internet to people which is 30 MBPS. Frankly I'm tired of the poor service and high prices that cable companies like Time Warner and Comcast offer. I've had to call comcast like 10 times once and had 5 different technicians come over to fix some ruddy problem. Each technician was more retarded than the last one and barely did anything. Only the last person actually tried to fix it (which he did) and explained what the problem was... and he was from Nigeria or Namibia or something, and not just some 4th grade dropout just trying to earn some dough to pay for his crack addiction.

My roommate (who's supposed to be paying his share of the internet costs) isn't. Whenever I ask him he just says "but it barely works", and I end up paying the $60 a month, which is bs. For all that poor service and poor internet connection its not worth paying $60 a month.

Sorry to go off on a bit of a rant there but I'm really frustrated with the service and I am wondering what the hell I should switch to. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Woo for rubbish internets! I have a friend who gets 20mbps (he is closer to london) through Virgin. That is about the peak here.
