So are you renting these Vegasrebel29 or planning to temporarily buy a car and then sell it on when you return home?

To all the guys who are saying "take public transport" I am surprised and saddened. A car is a companion, not just a mode of transportation. I am not really into the classic cars so I would say choose the Alfa of those three. But all things considered I would go for something far more main stream.

Also, coming from a really nice and shiny city like Vegas you are going to be in for a surprise going into a no nonsense city like Glasgow. That is all I'll say about that.

Oh, and when you have breaks from your studies, be sure to go down to the Isle of Man, which, as I'm sure you'll know from Top Gear, has no speed limits. So give whatever you get in the end a good kaning.

Well, I'll presumably be driving it for AT LEAST 5 years.
Hardly a temporary arrangement, at least in my mind.
After I graduate, I intended to stay in Scotland on the Fresh Talent scheme.

Also, I think you'll find that Las Vegas is just like any other city.
The coats of paint may be fresher, but what they're covering isn't any different.

On an unrelated note, I was looking into housing, and found this:

It's ?1,500/month, BUT it's also three bedroom,
so presumably that would be split three ways.
That puts it JUST below my budget.
With that said, I WANT I WANT I WANT.

Also, I considered (am considering) a Ford Mondeo ST220,
but honestly I'm far more concerned about comfort than power.

If you want comfort, why are you looking at the ST220? What about the Ghia X?

It's because the ST220 is fast.
As for my ignoring the Mondeo Ghia X,
it's more a result of my ignorance of Ford Europe trim levels.

Also, I realized the other day my price limits put me within range of a (presumably bad) version of this:

The TVR Cerbera.
And you people thought I had interest in unreliable cars BEFORE...

If you get that TVR, you won't be finishing Uni, if you get what I mean!

You have a range of the LEAST reliable cars on the market there.

None of the above.

How do you know if the 159 is unreliable, it just freaking came out! I mean the very bad Alfas usually had electrical issues within 10,000 miles and then only got better from their, but so far i haven't heard of such issues with the current crop. Anyways so long as you maintain a Alfa they run long and strong.

Spitfire. It looks the part, handles nicely, and after all, it s a british sports car.

Your either mad or rich - I suspect both, Cerbera will be unreliable if its cheap, and a pain in the arse to drive in town, and you'll most likely spin off on a wet night and die

I highly recommend it - Its a mother of cars, makes a Mustang look like a Shetland pony

Alpha dealers are sh1te, you've got to be lucky with an independent if you go for the 159. The 75 is way too big, the spitfire is a bit girlie and they are all getting far too old now, so with your sensible head on. ...

Vauxhall Corsa, or a Ford Fiesta, run of the mill transport - if a bit small. An oldish Lupo might do the trick, but really I agree with what has been posted above and whilst in the city use public transport.

Glasgow has an undeserved rep for being dangerous, it is no more dangerous than any city in the UK, and less so than some.

Please enjoy yourself whilst over here, you may find the accent a little 'strong' at first but you soon get used to it, many nice friendly people in Glasgow too.

/EDIT BTW this TVR idea as a daily drive - bad idea, put your details (as if you live in the UK, put in any address in Glasgow) in www.confused.com and get a quote - ouch! Plus, it is very very easy to have a prang in it, especially when wet.

Sssh It'll be Hilarious if he gets one and tries to use it every day :p

Dude, if you can honestly afford that TVR and are prepared to fix it yourself WHEN it breaks, you must buy it. (Lol, TVR is like the camaro of europe.)

Man you must be well off, I figured you were operating on a regular college student's income to which I would say you are insane, but that doesn't seem to be the case when you are considering a TVR and a house.

Sorry; I didn't know, I take my comments about public transport back.

That's not bad at all - is it in the Southside? Looks it. (?500 pp/m doesn't sound too bad - if you got a couple moving in too it'd be even cheaper).

Rover 75? *guffaw*
If comfort is what you're after, a 75 might just be the solution. They're cheap, there's a V8 model, inexpensive to fix, plenty spare parts...

And the panties/briefs/whatevers will drop. Either way, I envy you. Sweet lord I envy you.

OK, so sorry for neglecting this thread.
I just wanted to give it the attention it deserved, and I never really had the chance to.

First off, I'm not rich, just good with money.
Without disclosing, I made 125% profit on some investments I had.
Mind you, that return rate was a fluke, but a spectacular fluke.

Also, as far as the house goes, I lost the listing it was on.
This makes me a bit angry, because I really, really liked it.
Anyhow, there's loads of nice stuff in Glasgow, so we'll see.

Finally, I wouldn't buy the TVR to go birdcatching.
:p

On a related note, I've been considering the following vehicles since the last posting:

Jaguar X-type (I like the styling, cheap, and the 3.0L seems mildly fast)
Opel Speedster (Saturn Sky rebadged, and I quite like that as well - because it's a Lotus)
Seriously old Land Rovers (I like the idea of only needing a hammer for repairs)
Toyota Camry (Only to tinker with extensively, and I think the last model has decent styling)

and a plethora of American cars.
Actually, if I can find a good '57 or thereabout Cadillac, this conversation is over.
And this list is not all-inclusive, but it's 1AM.

Alternatively, I may just import my Cadillac.

Really, I have 5ish requirements:

Cruise Control
Climate Control
Power Steering
Good Rust Reputation
Able to maintain motorway speed without issue
-And unless I shoehorn a Hayabusa or an Ecotec into the Triumph, this disqualifies it

The Opel Speedster is not a rebaged Saturn Sky. That's the Opel GT. The Opel Speedster is a rebodied Lotus Elise and in the UK it was sold as the Vauxhall VX somethingorother. The Opel GT has never been sold in the UK as it doesn't exist in RHD. The only thing the GT and the Speedster have in common is that they're both roadsters. Although I find the Speedster pretty cool, it's a bit too spartan to be driven on a daily basis.

So uh, I made a decision.

http://img74.imageshack.**/img74/664/fiatpanda1vsstzo1.jpg
Before I get neg rep'd into oblivion, let me explain.
I decided I'm going to import, because it pretty much ensures
I'm not hit with depreciation on what I've decided to buy.
Furthermore, UK law dictates that you had to have owned
a car you intend on importing six months before you import,
unless you don't mind paying massive duties/taxes.

The Panda is only going to be driven for about 2 or 3 months,
after which I will drive around in what's in the next spoiler.

http://img147.imageshack.**/img147/15/corvette1bysyspluckor9.png
As much as the idea of driving a car we don't get here appealed,
the release of the ZR1 made me remember that the stuff we produce
here isn't so bad. In addition, as I stated earlier I could buy this
and manage to get away depreciation free.

Also, LOL LEAFSPRINGS.

With that said, I'm still looking for somewhere to stay,
so if you see something nice, please do post it here or send over a PM.

I like it! The current Corvette (08+ if you can) is a completely competent and solid car, they have solved all the problems that used to be a issue. Just try to specify one with a active exhaust if you can, because they sound so damn good! This is coming from someone who spent a good deal of time behind one at Grattan Raceway lastyear, mmmm yummy sounds. Plus, and trust me on this, if you need to drive slowly then one of the best things you can do is have a load exhaust, it just makes any speed 100x better.

Hmm, well I guess if you've got the money to keep a car like that you'll be ok, do remeber you'll be paying $200 for a tank of fuel :( but if your OK with that its a great choice
