    Random thoughts.... [Tech Edition]

This is exactly what I would recommend and what I did with our old Hi8 home videos. S-video is the best you'll get from a non-pro camcorder and the upscaling to HDMI not only improves the video a bit but it also eliminates the need to mess around with lower resolutions. The camera that recorded...

    Random Thoughts... [Photographic Edition]

Seems good to me, you inevitably pay extra for the macro ability. UK used prices are similar. You might be able to find the new price through one of these Amazon price tracker sites or the internet archive, I wouldn't worry about it too much though. I've still be very much enjoying using the Z9...

    Random Thoughts....

I remember iRiver, I really wanted the first one that played videos (iPod wasn't considered as I think I just hated Apple :dunno: ) but never got it. That would be before I got my PSP, which did the job of playing videos much better and was OK for music... just huge. Storage space was nothing...

The "Things that annoy me" thread

I'd recommend the obligatory BIOS update and looking through the motherboard manual for any gotchas, otherwise you could fall back to my idea of getting a PCIe RAID card and putting the new SSD on there, with space for a second one. :p

I haven't heard of that. I found someone asking if they can use the 980 Pro I bought recently (a PCIe 4.0 SDD) with my PCIe 3.0 motherboard and the answer was yes, just at 3.0 speeds as you would expect. The only other thing I can think of is a X2/X4 setting like my board has, sharing bandwidth...

    The Tools and Workshop Thread

Arseholes. As it offered the country selection and was on the .com site I thought it was worldwide. :( I don't know if visiting the site from the US makes any difference, seems really odd to use a .com address for a UK only competition with no US equivalent. :-?

I think this is appropriate, a chance to win Knipex tools! https://www.knipex.com/advent-calendar-2022 (My links never unfurl for some reason).

Now I've totally got to dig out my old cassette adapter and try it in my Braun C1. The 'proper' adapter looks great.

Bugger, didn't think of that. :( I did think that the thing you had plugged in to the 12V socket looked like a transmitter but I wasn't sure. In that case the unit you were looking at would be a clean solution. Like my Freelander, it's a shame the car doesn't still have a cassette player!

Unverified Ownership Say Hippo Again, I Dare You - 2002 Land Rover Freelander Td4 3-door

To get the bobtail Disco through its MOT I had to steal the interior light bulb from Geoff, as it was the night before. I got a pack of 10 from Amazon and went to fit one, however I goofed it and lost it in the roof. Yes, that's right, there's a hole in the roof that the bulb can go through if...

If you don't mind the lack of steering wheel controls that kind of thing is fine, it's similar to the GROM unit I had in the Disco 2. That also replaced the CD changer. However for a lot less you could get an FM transmitter with Bluetooth, those things have come a very long way so they're now...

The "Things that annoy me" thread

I'm a big fan of hiking style shoes that have loops on the back, I'm generally comitted to tying and untying though. I've sometimes consider the Croc for slipping on and off quickly to go outside, but I've resisted. As far as wear and damage goes, for me it's more like finding a pair that...

I've used an HDMI-DVI cable for my DVI only 1080p second monitor for years, works flawlessly even through an HDMI switch. I can't comment on DP.

If I had workshop space (or a garden that wasn't overlooked) this is exactly what I would be doing. I almost bought a decent MIG welder a couple of years ago but it required a 240V 16A circuit and the house doesn't have that.

    Weird Dreams Thread

Took me until the end of the day to write this but anyway, had a strange one while sleeping in today (Saturday). I seem to get the strange dreams after waking up and then going back to sleep. I was playing a game, something like Deathloop - I've been playing that a lot again recently. The...
