Just to get things started. I want to do storytiems, instead of just posting #NoContext pictures, but let's start the thread for that at least. Teaser trailer.

Ok, here we go. This trip report is going to be in daily parts and more picture heavy with every day, so chuck your phone away and watch this on a bigger screen. - Yes I do mean you, FG phone zombie. - Also don't hesitate to comment or post your pics inbetween the parts.

Sunday, 8th of August 2021 (Day 1)
First day report is short naturally because for me all I had to do was to hop over the swiss-german border and give the V10 some beans on the derestricted Autobahn which starts soon after the swiss border. - But regardless of what car you drive, somebody is always faster:
FG-roadtrip-2021-2.jpg

The ultimate goal was some Schnitzel place in Stuttgart, but I made a small detour into the Schwarzwald towards my hotel:
FG-roadtrip-2021-3.jpg

After 2hrs I arrived at my hotel in Lauterbach for the check in:
20210808-134852.jpg

That done, off to Stuttgart to meet some internet people. - But of course as it was a Sunday the Autobahn clogged up towards the city:
FG-roadtrip-2021-5.jpg

Can't have that, so I went off the 'bahn and pushed it on scenic B-roads:
FG-roadtrip-2021-6.jpg

Not long and I arrived at Onkel Ottos in the centre of Stuttgart. I was the first, but soon enough some FG people dropped in. Unusually for me I don't have any more pictures from this day, I guess meeting people in real life just took over. - Anyway, we eat some oversized Schnitzels, did some tire kicking, and I got a first glimpse into Step's (ninjacoco's) world: A tragic-amusing rollercoaster of happily driving an all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S while being a smale-scale disaster magnet, with a "fuck" thrown in at every second sentence. LOL

Stay tuned for day 2.

Location:
Road trip base in Alpirsbach, Situation: The show is on. - This morning Ice took the attention by underbraking his A5 into a hairy situation. The front wheel was barely hanging onto that ledge, and so there he was, stuck with no way to go but to bang the underbody onto the concrete. - The problem was soon solved with a tow rope and a Tesla, pulling him back up. - Only after that I realised that Ice had his foot mashed onto the braking pedal all the time because the parking brake wasn't able to hold the car. Was only a few minutes, but that must have been quite a workout:
FG-roadtrip-2021-8.jpg

Anyway, off we went, heading towards the Technic Museum in Sinsheim. This meant that the the driving wasn't that scenic yet like in the upcoming days. - I followed the Tesla for the whole route. Took me a full hour of looking at it to actually clog on that the plate said FINESSE. Tsk. Swiss plates only have numbers, so I may be excused for this faux pas:
FG-roadtrip-2021-9.jpg

As said, the day was dominated by the Sinsheim visit:
FG-roadtrip-2021-10.jpg

Damn shame that nobody else was allowed to drive the Taycan apart from Coco:
FG-roadtrip-2021-11.jpg

Anyway, let's head inside. - The war was mentioned right at the beginning:
FG-roadtrip-2021-12.jpg

But it civilised out later on:
FG-roadtrip-2021-13.jpg

Hundreds of cars, all with history, one could spend a day just in the cars section:

Coolest thing there was when I was a teenager:

Eh, ok...
FG-roadtrip-2021-16.jpg

Of course, the main attraction:
FG-roadtrip-2021-17.jpg

But soon enough I was back by the cars:
FG-roadtrip-2021-18.jpg

Overall very cool, there is just about everything in Sinsheim that has wheels or wings. Massive place. But the problem is, after about 4 hours of walking around they could show you a nude bombshell oiling it up on the hood of a car, and you would say "no thanks, I pass, all I want is to sit down". - So out we went. - From there on it was just everybody taking it straight back to base for dinner. - While I made a short stop on the way back, I accidentally parked up a the Unimog museum, not knowing that this would be on the plan for a visit tomorrow. A elderly employee got interested by my numberplates, and came out to my car to talk a little, culminating into him thanking me in a akward way that I left my Swiss Fränkli in Germany.
FG-roadtrip-2021-19.jpg

Random cool architecture:
FG-roadtrip-2021-20.jpg

Dinner near the home base. - I made a remark about phone use whilst socialising...
FG-roadtrip-2021-21.jpg

...and got the full range of response: From left to right: (1)ha-ha, (2)don't-care, (3)death-glare, (4)what-did-you-just-say!? - It was like being on the internet for a moment. LOL
FG-roadtrip-2021-22.jpg

That was it. As mentioned, not a real driving day like the days to come, but so far so good.

Stay tuned for day 3.

Tuesday, 10th of August 2021 (Day 3)

Like every morning I drove 30min from my hotel to the base camp, arriving at 0900. From there is was a wait of about 1hr until the last binger got vertical, did its swath of destruction at the breakfast buffet and then managed to find his pants/keys/car/ride. - As a morning person I may have struggled with this in earlier roadtrips, but by now have eased out with it, as I just went shopping and did some e-mails until the radio finally started to crackle with a "ok, I think we're good to go" soundbite. - The base camp:
FG-roadtrip-2021-23.jpg

The Taycan happily sipping away some shock juice:
FG-roadtrip-2021-24.jpg

Meanwhile, the V10 eager and ready to go, whilst mumbling some "pffft I can fill my tank in 2 minutes" ICE snobbery towards the Taycan:
FG-roadtrip-2021-25.jpg

Yep, just about 1hr until the plenary assembly:
FG-roadtrip-2021-26.jpg

Seemed everybody had the same beer type yesterday:
FG-roadtrip-2021-27.jpg

WE ARE OFF! - On the tight twisties that little nippy MX-5 was like a fly you see and chase around the house all day, unable to catch it:
FG-roadtrip-2021-28.jpg

Roadtrip Fahrgefühl:
FG-roadtrip-2021-29.jpg

nicjasno trying to stop his exhaust burning its way to the side of the car:
FG-roadtrip-2021-30.jpg

A wild Martin joined the group, giving a bit of colour to it all:
FG-roadtrip-2021-31.jpg

The other V10. But apart from the same number of cylinders it's the direct opposite of my car: That M5 is a loud screamer with brutal gear shifts and a high-rev peak power. The S6 is unobtrusive sound wise, with low-down-torque and smooth shifts:
FG-roadtrip-2021-32.jpg

That soundtrack made me a bit envious, I have to confess:
FG-roadtrip-2021-33.jpg

Unimog Museum:
FG-roadtrip-2021-34.jpg

You could passenger in a "The Unimog rules" round course. I think most of us went for it:
FG-roadtrip-2021-38.jpg

Hillclimbing backwards or forwards, not a problem for the pricy german icon:
FG-roadtrip-2021-37.jpg

Of course I went for a ride too:
FG-roadtrip-2021-35.jpg

Even the dreaded eh I mean loved Puffalump got some Unimog time. Little bastard eh I mean cutie had no clue though, can only drive Parshes apparently, the litte runt eh I mean hero:
FG-roadtrip-2021-36.jpg

A while later the V10 duo split up from the group to shoot the M5 into a bimmer garage in Freiburg. Front shocks/brakes had some incontinence problems. Costly of course, it's a M5. - There we met Thomas, he's a megaphone and a electronic organizer mixed together, shaped in a friendly vertical human form:
FG-roadtrip-2021-39.jpg

Thomas was friends with the garage man and that got us some backstage entry:
FG-roadtrip-2021-40.jpg

Back at the base, dinner time, same place as yesterday. This means the memory got a bit blurry:
FG-roadtrip-2021-41.jpg

And again, those internet reactions: busy, WTF, ingnorance, cheeky, all in one go:
FG-roadtrip-2021-42.jpg

Proper roadtrip day this, good stuff.
End of day 3, stay tuned for day 4.

The handbrake was probably just fine holding the car, the issue was when trying to back up, the automatic handbrake would let go before enough torque was reached (I guess it looked for torque when I was letting out the clutch in A direction and DOWNHILL was a good enough choice). I just wasn't taking any chances.

Also not a fun manoeuvre to perform with a new clutch and flywheel and a completely different biting point. I'll let others post pics of how close the car got to just slamming onto the concrete. :|

I'll catch up to Tuesday as well, so I'll get something going. Attending was a very late decision this year, as lacking full vaccination status made traveling a bit of a chore, not to mention expensive from here. But with the donation program needing transport help and travel situation staying at least consistent, I made my bookings less than a week before roadtrip started. Rental reservation was at least very flexible, but timing for antigen test and flight made the day before takeoff a long one as well.

Early takeoff. After nice 2 hours of sleep I was off at 3AM, just in case as I had no idea if there are some extra effort needed at the airport. Actual check-in at the desk at least, to show ze test papers.
AM-JKLUKArkV2gE-V-vP1q7PNh1_bZ6vj9yZP-b4t6TNGbgDUfYU1rppt9emf-Anpz_w0e4v6vvTPKklkMe0p9a8Q69Ryqp5gx-uyS0g8mKMS85KpkLHa7a4Phn96LNb72ppQrzgRwRy3Poon62A9JZEGFEkDQ=w534-h1154-no

But at least the road (and sky) was clear

When arriving to the airport I noticed that Lufthansa had failed to provide me with their fly&rail ticket I had bought and the 40min I had before boarding wasn't enough to get through the customer service call. This ended up me spending double the money and double the connections to get to Thomas' garage. And straight away the Peugeot greeted me with some issues.

This was slightly bigger issue though. And quickly corrected by a quick fix, so I could get on the road. The broken muffler had a nice raspy sound, but unfortunately not that audible inside the car unless there were houses or railings for the sound to bounce from.

Roadtrip setup, which unfortunately didn't work out, as the power socket wasn't working correctly. It ended up breaking two of my charger, which then blew fuses in @lip Audi and my own car, when returning home..

Before driving through some Black forests to meet rest (or most) of the roadtrip crew in Stuttgart. Similar plan as @lip, although I just drove past our hotel and I also stayed in the forest for longer, to get around some traffic jams. It's not an autobahn car by any measure anyway. After having a cracking time parking, some soothing beer was acquired.

As the other Peugeot needed fuel, we stopped for some after leaving the restaurant and spotted a nice Lambo.

After driving to the hotel, I managed to miss the parking lot and ended up leading our convoy up the hill, as it's not really a road you do turn on. But at least the view was nice at the turn around point. In the mean time others had found a terrace/bar at the village centre, which was closing "soon" for like two hours.

As often tends to happen on these trips, I was up early on Monday, so I went for a morning walk. Hotel view from the opposite side of the hill. A village cat seemed genuinely confused that there was somebody walking around and kept following my actions for a good while.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast and Audi saving efforts, some cleaning person attacked the 106 windows, to make driving it a bit less dangerous, as they were rather clouded over by dirt. And then it was left at the parking lot, as I got to drive the Compact of said cleaning person to the museum.

Fortunately the hill wasn't steep or anything. Nice place to be stuck.

I could've spent more time there, but as I didn't have my own car I had to rush out to catch last of our crew heading out and got to drive a Teslerr back to the hotel. A dinner was reserved at a restaurant next to the bar we were in the previous night. A very nice pizza and some great chocolate dessert was had, before returning to the hotel.

Tuesday morning and I was out on a morning walk again. Spotted some peregrine falcons here as well, which was rather nice. This was also a dog training ground and there were signs warning about your jogging pace when there's a training session..

I was driving people to/from town on previous nights, but got to walk down on Tuesday. And of course I didn't take any pictures, but I rather liked the mood of this village. And I'm always envious of the availability of public transport in German countryside.

^ Great report. Keep on it. (y)

Wednesday, 10th of August 2021 (Day 4)
You know how it is, after a few days the meeting strangers akwardness is gone, you can name and place everybody, you learned some bits about everybody, and it just feels right, it's all teamy and matey. Also this was a full on driving day with only short been-there-done-that landmark visits. Proper ass roadtripping.- Anyway, here we have the horde already assembled and fit for service. Note the unplanned "missing man" parking formation for Adrians absent M5: :p
FG-roadtrip-2021-43.jpg

Sir Icebone took on S6 tankdriver duty so I could have a go in Olex's oversized electric razor Tesla:
FG-roadtrip-2021-44.jpg

I left my camera in the S6 so I actually have no picture proof of me stomping the pedal of the white fly-by-wire fridge. If there was, you could see me grinning in every photo. While at a mid-range speeds the Tesla was on par in pulling power with the S6, what sold me was that instant 100% full-on send-it power delivery. Overtakes where just like that *fingersnip*. - For overtaking the S6 is like a bride that has to run: First she has to lift her skirt a bit, then off she goes. - Not so in the Tesla: The moment you think about overtaking is the moment the car already wizzes past the obstacle. - You can guess by reading this text this was my first time in a electric car. I was truly impressed. - Granted, there is no manly engine roar and the inside looks like your nephews school homework table with a badly placed iMac on it, but regardless, that rapid instant acceleration is a seller. - Anyway, back to the report, we are at the first bigger stop:
FG-roadtrip-2021-45.jpg

You can tell we were a team by now:
FG-roadtrip-2021-46.jpg

Ladies and Gentlemen: The one and only Coco. And some Porsche. - IT'S NOT A WAGON!
FG-roadtrip-2021-47.jpg

Yeah, that Porsche got some attention:
FG-roadtrip-2021-48.jpg

Off we went again for a short hop to park up nearby...
FG-roadtrip-2021-49.jpg

... to look at the origin spring of the Donau (Danube) river. It was so laughable unimpressive (well, what do you expect, a 30meter wide stream?) that I didn't even took a photo of it:
FG-roadtrip-2021-50.jpg

That done, off we went again:
FG-roadtrip-2021-51.jpg

I was back in my V10, and as Ice's father had a A6 Ice knew how to turn up the digital speed display. Never knew this was possible. Thanks man! - But that also turned up the average fuel use. THANKS FOR THAT ICE, THANKS SO MUCH FOR LETTING ME SEE IT, YOU BASTARD! :ROFLMAO:
FG-roadtrip-2021-52.jpg

Now you see, that's a river! - Not just a few stones and a water trickle! ;)
FG-roadtrip-2021-53.jpg

Turned our this was actually a lake, held up by the unique Whatsitcalled-Sperre. Damn!
FG-roadtrip-2021-55.jpg

Never seen a hollow one:
FG-roadtrip-2021-56.jpg

My S6 probably had a affair with a frenchwoman during a former owners time, as these two duckies followed it around all day, clearly quacking "Daddy!": :ROFLMAO:

This day had a lot of pics, so I make a pause here and split the post...
Stay tuned for more of Wednesday.

I didn't take many pictures during this trip, but can add some random tidbits here and there, so here goes :)

IMG_1053.JPEG IMG_1056.JPEG

Before setting off, I went to wash the car on Saturday, fully aware of this being likely to cause weather issues. As expected, later in the day it did, but I cleverly hid my car in the garage, so all was well.

IMG_1058.JPEG

On the Sunday when driving down, the weather was mostly perfectly clear, with only a few tiny patches of rain. Since the car was freshly washed, of course those patches timed themselves perfectly to be on my route -.-

I decided to skip the schnitzel place in Stuttgart and instead arrived nice and early in the evening to our base hotel in Alpirsbach. After checking in there (my Russian came in handy when conversing with the hotel people, and it was a good idea to arrive early to figure out the complete clusterf*** of rooms that they booked for all of us), I found a couple more punctual Germans, and we went for some burgers and beers, later to be joined by the rest of the group upon their arrival from Stuttgart.

On Monday, I was the lead car for the convoy to Sinsheim, so didn't take any pictures or videos on the road - leading, navigating and operating the radio all without a co-driver was enough work as it is. I didn't take many pics at the museum either, relying on others to do that - looking at the posts above, it worked out well :)

On the way back from Sinsheim to the base camp, we opted for the motorway route with both EVs in the group. Traffic was mediocre, so we decided to try some rolling shots of the Porsche from the Tesla. This worked alright, although no comparison to the much more professional shots done by Ice later during Ringmeet.

IMG_1072.JPEG IMG_1080.JPEG IMG_1101.JPEG

In the evening, there was the Italian restaurant across the road from the previous night's burger place. Their menu was quite decent, but especially the desserts convinced us to come back the next evening:

IMG_1104.JPEG

Tuesday was a lot of scenic driving and the Unimog museum. Riding along in the cabin of that thing was quite impressive, even though I couldn't understand most of what the driver was talking about :) Again, all the interesting pictures have been posted, so I'll spare you the bandwidth and continue on.

IMG_1118.jpeg

View from the hotel down to the main car park. Not all of our cars present - some were parked "upstairs" (where the picture is taken from), and I believe both EVs were on the charger a couple hundred meters away.

On Wednesday, we had another scenic day planned with several stops, heading south from the base camp for a change.

IMG_1122.JPEG

The usual morning gathering, waiting for people and forming the convoy.

IMG_1124.JPEG

Setting up for a group picture at the source of the Danube river, that will hopefully be posted soon.

IMG_1129.JPEG

IMG_1126.JPEG

A random dam we stopped at on the way (the Linachtalsperre) with some picturesque views.

IMG_1131.JPEG

Some more very pretty views taken while driving on. Schwarzwald is damn pretty.

IMG_1134.JPEG

Both participating EVs filling up on angry pixies at a supermarket in Bonndorf. During this the group had lunch, at a surprisingly high-quality restaurant that was part of a local REWE supermarket - slightly unexpected, but not unwelcome.

IMG_1138.JPEG

Shortly before the end of the day, we found a tower. Specifically, this is a viewing platform on top of the Schauinsland mountain. Getting there involved me f***ing up the waypoints for the Tesla, leading half the group _down_ a very nice mountain road wondering when we would start climbing towards the summit... then turning around and going all the way back up, since we missed the correct turn :) Then some hiking was necessary to actually get to the tower, and some stair climbing to get up there. But the views were quite nice.

After this, we met up with Kelly and Thomas and joined them for some takeout dinner in their back yard, before eventually returning to base camp after sunset.

This was an excellent mishap, as we got a rather good run in, both ways. Excellent road, well worth it. Still sad there's no video footage, the 106 tyre squeal alone would be worth it.

On the tight twisties that little nippy MX-5 was like a fly you see and chase around the house all day, unable to catch it:
Thank you!
I hope someone has dashcam footage of that day. I was too much of an idiot and neglected to save mine. :( That one road was properly epic. :)

As a small teaser trailer from me, let's hear how it sounds when Stef realizes that her car is not exactly narrow.

(subtitles available)
:D

'tis going to be a heavy page. But that's what fast interwebs are for.

Wednesday was the day of test drives. Drivers were shuffled in most cars throughout the day. And with several short stops throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities. Iirc I started the day in the e36, but I'm not even sure anymore.

Fully organised first quick photo stop.

And either after that stop, or visiting the source of the Danube, I think I got the helm of the 309 for a short while.

After a dam stop I got myself a Ford. And despite not being in a Peugeot I was still in the back of the convoy. This turned out well at this point, as people in front forgot convoy rules, of waiting at intersections for following people. So I ended up some kilometres off course, driving on my own to catch everyone at the lunch/charge stop. At least I had very little traffic on the way, so I could enjoy the Fiesta. And despite given wrong instruction I found the supermarket, which had rather interesting bathroom as well (more random things I end up taking pictures of).

After this we were off to get to the chopp.. viewing tower. I'm glad I was back in the 106 again, as there were some nice roads ahead. Done twice in some cases as well, as has been mentioned already. Just the amount of bikers should be a clear sign we were on some nice roads. And I'm sure the cyclists appreciated the show the 106 approaches corners with (although I'd assume more fear than amusement).

That's a nice railing.

The weather was rather warm for a hike to the tower, but otherwise this was just my kind of break. Small hike and big view. I could've stayed there for longer, but as it goes with bigger groups, the day was running out as is. For a lovely afternoon surprise the restaurant we were supposed to go cancelled on us, so emergency plan of invading Thomas' place and order takeout was made.

Great piece of road. Missed the best screencap, but still.

A bit later I had a fun time, picking up one of our food orders. Two sides with limited compatible language skills resulted in longer than necessary negotiations, but at least the order was made beforehand, instead of trying to clarify that part as well.

Adrian decided to stay and wait to get his car the next day and Team lightweights(/old beaters) were left behind to play fuel light bingo on the way back to the hotel. Some cheap(er for this trip) fuel was found on the way and even with surprising amount of traffic we had a nice evening cruise through southern parts of Schwarzwald.

The week went past way too quick and it was already time to start heading north. Apart from some card issues, the packing and check-out part of the day went surprisingly well and fast. Apart from another museum stop, nothing big was designed for this day. i really should've planned some smaller roads to start the day, because why not. But after plenty of traffic and some autobahn shortcuts, another museum was found. I tried my best to run through the whole place, so I'd get a glance at everything at least. But just like last time, everyone else was leaving while I was still touring around. At least I had my own transport, so I could set off at my own pace. Before leaving Google maps decided that I should see all one way streets of the town, while I tried to get to a station to check tyre pressures.

Strong sticker game spotted just before the museum.

Getting to the main roads I was a bit behind. And I got about 50km of autobahn in, before I decided I have the rest of the evening for the drive anyway, and set the navigation to avoid motorways. I got a nice route out of that and some great driving fun was had.

Wide scenery on the way. Couple campers were parked there as well. They were rather amused and perplexed by my short stop, snapping few quick photos and setting off again, with the farty exhaust and squealing tyres.. Had to beat that (almost nonexistant) traffic.

I guess that's it for this thread, time to switch to next one for following events. Videos will have to wait, as there's a lack of functioning PCs in the house.

I didn't take many pics, other than at the museum, which we definitely should make a separate thread for, but here's my stuff:

Day -2:

Since it was a sunny day, I decided, like Olex, I would tempt the fates and get my car washed before the 12 hour journey up north.

IMG_20210806_164800.jpg

Right?

Well... on the way back home I was greeted by this friendly sight, approaching fast:

IMG_20210806_172956.jpg

And as soon as I pulled into the garage...

Lesson learned. Never tempt fate. If you don't have a garage...

Day -1:

All packed up and ready to meet up with the rest of the crovenian delegation in Maribor.

IMG_20210807_111903.jpg

@nicjasno was super excited to see me after all these months of lockdown, as you can tell:

IMG_20210807_131258.jpg

A necessary stop at the local supermarket for "coffee" and COCK...ta

IMG_20210807_135546.jpg

and the A5 still had plenty of room in the trunk. Who said coupés are impractical?

There was an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, which necessitated an immediate fixin' with some butt wipes

IMG_20210807_170444.jpg

But other than that, the day ended without issue and we ended up at the pub with a couple of friends (WHO WILL ONE DAY JOIN US. RIGHT, METOD?)

IMG_20210807_215423.jpg

Day 0:

The big northbound trip day started off with an early breakfast at a local bakery. BOULANGERIE! No, wait... wrong roadtrip.

IMG_20210808_070145.jpg

But the day was rather boring, other than some cool sights in the mountains of Austria.

IMG_20210808_112439.jpg
IMG_20210808_113109.jpg
IMG_20210808_114440.jpg

We had a single goal and that is to get to Onkel Otto in Stuttgart to meet up with a bunch of internet weirdos for a late lunch / early dinner.

Staus didn't help...
IMG_20210808_171036.jpg

And in the end we made it to the rally point only an hour late, when everyone else had already finished and was ready to leave. But screw that, I had a hankering for some schnitzel. A LOT of schnitzel.

IMG_20210808_182438.jpg

Day 1:

started off with beautiful weather

IMG_20210809_083529.jpg

and it was at this point that I was informed by nicjasno that a piece of my car's undertray was hanging very low at speed and that we should take a look at it. It was probably badly installed when I had the clutch and flywheel replaced just a few days before leaving on a several thousand km long trip across several countries. What could possibly go wrong, right? I drove up above the hotel and parked with one wheel on a very strategically placed piece of concrete to facilitate a better look below.

IMG_20210809_084829.jpg

The rear wheel decided to defy gravity at this point:

IMG_20210809_085135.jpg

Not in a precarious situation at all!

photo_2021-08-09_09-02-50.jpg

Now all I need to do is manipulate the self-releasing electronic handbrake and reverse up a hill using a clutch whose bite point I'm not really familiar with and...

photo_2021-08-09_09-02-51.jpg

Ah shit...

photo_2021-08-09_09-12-28.jpg

HALP!

Luckily we managed to find some sturdy tie down straps in lieu of a tow rope and a car with let's say... "sufficient" torque to come to the rescue

And from a different angle:

You can really see how the rear wheel didn't want to do anything with the ground at that point. I guess it was just jealous of all the attention the front wheel was getting.

But with all that drama out of the way, it was finally time to start the roadtrip proper, of which I have almost zero photos on this day, other than then over 100 from the Sinsheim museum.

IMG_20210809_132821.jpg

We made it all back safely (minus 20 cylinders) to have some delicious food at a very peculiarly shaped table...

IMG_20210809_203706.jpg
IMG_20210809_215437.jpg

And since the forum is telling me I can only attach 25 files per post, I guess I shall continue in the next one. Hmph!

Second part of Wednesday, 10th of August 2021 (Day 4)
After the Talsperre dam off we went again. Great day, great roads:
FG-roadtrip-2021-57.jpg

I was second to last in row, with only shads black Fiesta ST behind me. Until it wasn't anymore. No visual or radio contact. But no worries, its' 2021 and everybody has a phone, GPS, telegram location and whatnot. All good until somebody sends you the wrong location. Which is what happend. Don't know who that was, but it made me laugh. :ROFLMAO: - While the Fiesta circled in to our position again we had some late lunch at a supermarket. Was a surprisingly decent place:
FG-roadtrip-2021-58.jpg

And soon after we were underway again. Tram took the S6 wheel for a bit and gave it all including some risky overtaking infront of a tractor coming the other way.  Somehow glad that Mikko's dashcam went out shortly before that, wouldn't want that to end up on youtube. - Anyway, great day as mentioned:
FG-roadtrip-2021-59.jpg

Sure, the Schwarzwald isn't the Alps, but the sweeping roads were still awesome:
FG-roadtrip-2021-60.jpg

Later on we hooned in on a peak point called "Schauinsland", translated literally "look-into-country". That's Freiburg in the background:
FG-roadtrip-2021-62.jpg

Meanwhile Adrian had a look at the menu... :wicked:

Meanwhile Puffalump blue didn't catch on for ages that the lens was still on the camera.

Part of the group made a detour by some GPS error, bus as soon as we all got together we rolled down the hill, as Thomas' leading lady Kelly invited the whole gang into their house. (y)

Many thanks again to Kelly and Thomas. - After the meal their 6yo son Hedley? (sorry if name is wrong), talked me into helping him collecting some bugs on a lawn two houses down. While there I got soon bored with it but he insisted that we catch six bugs before we could head back again to his house. This stubberness reminded me of why Susan and I have no kids. LOL. - Anyway I talked him down to four, which we eventually catched. Phew. ?

As soon as we came back it was time to pack up and head back to base. - This time I had the shorter way for once because my hotel was closer to Freiburg. Ha!

Stay tuned for Day 5.

Thursday, 11th of August 2021 (Day 5)

Transition day between Roadtrip and Ringmeet. A bit of B-roads first but eventually some Autobahn hooning. - As I'm a fan of castles I truly noted anything interesting on the way for future visits:

Make way, the darjanator is on the move! - My apologies for ruining the pic with my mirrored crotch. ?

The mighty 309 going at it...

Here we are, parked near the second Technic Museum, this one was in Speyer. - Btw, long S6 is long:
FG-roadtrip-2021-72.jpg

This Variant was a bit smaller than the one we saw in Sinsheim a few days ago, but still, pretty impressive stuff, also had some maritime part which is always interesting and exotic to me, coming from a landlocked country:
FG-roadtrip-2021-73.jpg

You could easily spend another full day looking at all this:
FG-roadtrip-2021-74.jpg

Planned to head up the 747 before I would leave, but forgot about it later on. Sure it's not exactly small and hence not that easy to miss, but it's also not exactly on eye height, is it?:ROFLMAO:

In the belly of the Antonov:
FG-roadtrip-2021-76.jpg

Took a small and late lunch together with Steph who had just arrived, but after that I buzzed off, again with the plan to first check into my hotel before heading to the Ringmeet campsite. And mind you, it was still a 2h30min drive from the Museum up to the hotel. - Anyway, that blue puffalump: May be the cutest thing there is in the world is to his mom, but still... those eyes say WORLD DOMINATION, I'm sure. :p
FG-roadtrip-2021-77.jpg

While underway bombing it on the Autobahn Shad telegram'ed one should look out for the Moselbrücke Rastplatz, just as I was in line of sight of exactly that. Wohehey! - So I went off the 'bahn and had a look... and damn, what a place:
FG-roadtrip-2021-78.jpg

...you could walk under the bridge, ending up standing so close to it you could almost touch it. And then the sound of the Trucks going over it was just incredible too:
FG-roadtrip-2021-79.jpg

What a freaking awesome place. - Thanks again to Shad for the timely tip! (y)
FG-roadtrip-2021-80.jpg

But oh well, this also meant the end of the Roadtrip 2021... but wait, there is still the Ringmeet 2021! But that's a story for another thread. - So there it is. - Good night folks.

Greetings, lip

A tragic-amusing rollercoaster of happily driving an all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S while being a smale-scale disaster magnet, with a "fuck" thrown in at every second sentence. LOL
This is...surprisingly accurate for how my week went. The parsh was very, very good. Too good, if you're in a blue and yellow van. :(

Good news, though—the rental place for my pre-parsh car that made my card-sans-international-fees unusable for the whole trip finally said they'd refund the extra €370 in charges. Yes, finally. Monday. Nearly three weeks after the fact. GOOD JOB, ENTERPRISE.
Anyway, that blue puffalump: May be the cutest thing there is in the world is to his mom, but still... those eyes say WORLD DOMINATION, I'm sure.
They do. I have to keep my eye on him.

I should probably post pics this year. I have some Instagrams from the trip in the meantime, though. I can't get them to embed with the "media" embed tool, though.

Finally getting the h*ck out of Texas:

My Puffalumps tried (unsuccessfully) to claim a seat for themselves on the big transatlantic plane:

IT'S GETTING REAL (CLOUDY)!!!:

I can't take Theo Bunny anywhere. SMH:

LOOK AT ALL THIS NOT-TEXASNESS! LOOK!!! Also, very Grello toenails and a still-intact pair of sandals:

I later lost a sandal getting on the train to pick up my rental car. I probably should've taken that as an omen. I'm still in awe that the trains don't smell like pee, though. The floor wasn't even sticky! What is this voodoo?!

Oh hey, I'm staying near that test track:

AAAAAH IT'S A STUTTGART IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL:

This is pretty, too:

I got a rental car to try to fart around and see some sights the day I landed, but nope. Didn't happen. Screw this Fiat in particular:

It was fun to drive for the half-day I got to drive it, but then the car locked its own key inside the car after I stepped away for a sec to unload luggage. The whole point of leaving the doors unlocked and the key in the car was so the car wouldn't lock, but here we were. Fine, then—I called Enterprise. I'd gotten a key with a damaged housing that seemed to work when I picked it up, but then this happened. Surely they could send a pop-a-lock guy, right? This is the easiest whoopsie in the world to deal with in a low-tech car like a 500. Wiggle appropriately bent stick into door, unlock, retrieve key. Wrong. They sent a whole damn tow truck to haul it off. The tow yard got the key out almost immediately, which, duh. I got charged not only for the overkill tow, but for a second day of rental time that they said I wouldn't be charged for.

I kept calling trying to get a straight answer on how much it'd all be—they reassured me that I'd only be charged for the short tow, which was usually less than the full tow deposit—but nope! I got a surprise invoice that weekend, somewhere around the second day of the roadtrip showing that my €142? rental became just shy of €500 after all the extra fees, and was absolutely miserable about that (and hella broke) the rest of the trip accordingly. They just NOW got back to me on Monday about a refund of the extra fees. My rental was on 8/4-8/5. And of course, the card I'd used for that rental and hoped to use more on the trip due to its lack of international transaction fees is STILL tied up until it processes that refund (which I'll believe when I see in my account).

I'm so mad. I can't win.

First stop after getting to my AirBNB in Weissach: döner kebab, duh:

The AirBNB was more successful at growing lavender than I am. All the ones I planted at home are dead now. Too wet this year. :(

A+ garden, though. Nice place to work for a couple days:

WEISSACH PARSHSPOTTING!:

Assorted pre-roadtrip train pics. I'm still in awe that the trains don't smell like pee:

Pre-roadtrip maultaschen:

Parsh is that way:

THE PARSH ARRIVES!:

Fortunately, this has been my iPhone name ever since an update wiped out "iPuffalump Quattro:"
View: https://www.instagram.com/p/CSRmPbjn9GK/

Like the parsh, my phone also does not have a turbo. Unlike the parsh, though, my phone's battery sucks. It's super dead now. My phone even died between my plane and the next gate on my return flight to Texas. One more expense. Ugh.

Test run to Munich to figure out how to charge the parsh and also because I hadn't ever seen Munich yet:
Pretty!:

Vanspotting and parshspotting:

I don't think Theo Bunny found the Taycan's center console to be particularly roomy:

Back to parsh, briefly:

This time, the Puffalumps DO get their own seat:

Pre-roadtrip roadtrip: I'd gotten a copy of the 992 press launch drive route, so why not. Decided to do some Schwäbische Alb-ing and grab some photos before meeting up at Onkel Otto's.

I had to charge the car, so I brought breakfast:

First time seeing an EQS in person, too. Neat:

(Test cars AND cheese! Why did I leave?!)

Neat Leaf at one of the chargers:

Moo!:

lol butts:

BIG PARSH, little parsh:

Made it to Onkel Otto's, where I failed at parking, but saw a cool van:

Finally arrived in Alpirsbach. It's pretty obvious what our beverage of choice is:

Watching Walter hoon around the Unimog Museum:

I may need to go back and buy the 'lumps a Unimog friend when I have money. They're so cute!:

BIG PARSH, little Peugeot:

We added more carbon fiber to the Taycan whenever Adrian came with:

Schauinsland was really, really pretty. I kinda wish we'd have had time to take the cable car. SOME DAY!:

My gosh, Germany's cheapest Eos DOES exist:

Cool Renault 21 Turbo in Freiburg:

IT'S A THOMAS!!!:

I was way behind (and further financially wounded) when I got to Speyer, but I saw some cool stuff:

...including...........

BURAN TIME!!!

Between assorted family/'rona updates, the rental car situation and the fact that I'm too stupid to exist, I was Having A Bad One, but the space stuff at Speyer was definitely worth it. I need to go back when things are better and spend a little more time looking at some of the planes I missed, but holy crap, there's a freaking Buran AND a space toilet in there. Amazing.

Anyway, I'll dig up real photos eventually. Enjoy the potatoes!

Sorry for the delay guys, but I've had a lot going on in my personal life during the past two weeks, and it's better to do things late than never, so here it is.

On day -1 I hitched a ride with @47 to Slovenia to meet the two Slovenians. Of course, things started deviating from predicted pretty early on, as we encountered a huge Stau in which we were stationary for at least an hour on some spitting distance from the Slovenian border:

IMG_1854.jpg

After that, I slept at @nicjasno's, and on day 0 we headed quite early in the morning to a lunch/dinner at Onkel Otto in Stuttgart, through Austrian B-roads and German Autobahns. The Austrian scenery was beautiful, despite me sleeping through most of Austria:

IMG_1869.jpg

However, in Germany, on our way to Stuttgart, we encountered some Staus around the Munich area:

IMG_1882.jpg

After the aforementioned lunch at Onkel Otto that turned into more of a dinner, we headed to Alpirsbach to our hotel for the next four nights. I didn't take any more pictures that day. The following day, which is day 1, we headed towards the town of Sinsheim, which had an absolutely huge technical museum, with loads of cars. Some were close to the ceiling:

Some dream cars from the teenage years:

And some stuff that weren't passenger cars:

Or cars at all:

And some really American stuff:

DSC_0170.jpg

But my favourite moment from that day was when I hitched a ride with @ninjacoco and @DanRoM in the Taycan Turbo S and we saw a fairly early Trabant on our way back to the hotel. We started waving the people in Trabant, and they were waving back to us. The juxtaposition of a brand new Taycan and a 60-year-old plastic box from the other side of the Iron Curtain was probably an interesting enough scene itself for any passer-by, but waving to those people and giving them thumbs up from the Taycan and having them wave back at us was just amazing.

IMG_1969.jpg

The following day, which is day 2, we visited a private Unimog museum, which was obviously much smaller than the museum in Sinsheim, but in my humble opinion, more fun. The way there was also quite fun, so have a picture of the Taycan. That car is just addicting:

DSC_0249.jpg

Now, the Unimog museum. Stationary stuff was fairly interesting, as you could see all the wonderful uses one could have for an Unimog, and all the variety of Unimog models:

DSC_0269.jpg

DSC_0278.jpg

But I didn't take much pictures there, as outside the building itself, there was a polygon for showing off all the capabilities of a Unimog, and you could even take a ride in one:

DSC_0288.jpg

DSC_0285.jpg

DSC_0289.jpg

And of course I had a ride in one, with the rest of the people who decided to do the same. Credits to @IceBone for the picture:

DSC_0299.jpg

Continuing in another post as I'm close to the 25 pictures limit and I don't want to split one day into two posts.

On day 3 we visited the source of Danube river, where we had the long-anticipated group shot taken by some random people who were there:

DSC_0332.jpg

The same day we drove on some amazing B-roads and visited @thomas and Kelly in their city. On the way there, we stopped at Schauinsland, a place that seemed quite random to me, until I went to the tower and had the best sight of the whole Roadtrip. The views there were absolutely amazing!

DSC_0347.jpg

I don't have much pictures from that day, so this is it, and the following day, which is day 4, I only took some pictures of the Museum Speyer, which had much less cars, and much more submarines, aircrafts, and even a Buran, which I didn't take a decent picture of, unfortunately. But have some pics of cars from the museum:

DSC_0356.jpg

DSC_0365.jpg

DSC_0368.jpg

And that's it from me. I've taken more pics, but decided that they were too repetitive or too low in quality to be posted here, so I'll continue with my reports of the FG adventures I had in the Ringmeet thread.
