Thank you, Viper and we will miss you. Finalgear has been a large part of my life, most of which was spent lurking and then interacting with everyone on IRC. Thank you.

    Best Android apps

Tasker!!!!! If it's not already mentioned here. It's not free but it detects states for your phone (light, pressure, orientation, gestures, app launch, battery low and a ton of other things) and it lets you assign things to do when something happens. For example, I can have my phone turn off...

Awesome! I should hunt for calibrated profiles for my display. Or, I might borrow a Spyder 3/4 calibrator.

Picked this up from Korea this week. It's a 27-inch, IPS panel, LED-backlit, 2560x1440 display - 1 DVI port and brightness controls. That's it. It's called the Achieva Shimian QH270. Fun bit - I paid $210 for it. No dead pixels, nothing. Colours and viewing angles are awesome. It kicks ass!

    They're in Bombay! [Possible spoiler]

They were spotted not too far from my office . A distant friend clicked pics of Hammond with a red Mini with a ton of tiffin boxes on the roof. They were seen close to my office but I didn't get a chance to see them. I hear they are off to North India later today. It's some kind of a...

Anyone have experience with micro 4/3rds format cameras?

I used the E-P3 and the two lower end model on Friday evening for a while. It's looking pretty impressive. I'm for the first time in a long time very interested in them. It's not just impressive on the performance front, but also for its feel and stuff. I should be able to use the E-P3 for a...

    Need 3ds Max Help

I meant, generally, boolean use for modeling isn't recommended. Get that text outline in the block using modeling might be extremely cumbersome. Like TerranCmdr said, use of a displacement map or maybe even just a bump / normal map could give you the desired effect.

    Need 3ds Max Help

I haven't done any 3d modeling in a while, but you could try setting the normals right and setting a 2-sided material. Also, try one of the ready made objects and see if you get the desired result. Use the ready teapot model. I would definitely recommend refraining from using boolean while...

Congrats to you too. I've used an Amazon Kindle two weeks back and I love it. I might get one to read stuff on while traveling to work.
