    Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

I hated selling my Hilux. Sadly it was a car that appealed greatly to lower IQ brackets. I had a whole list of "what's your best price" texts on my phone, zero of which I replied to. Fuck you, if you want to bargain you can look at the car first. People would ring up and try and offer 5 grand...

    Our "own" car reviews

I had a holiday in Queensland and I rented a car. Well, when I say I rented it, my girlfriend booked it. I was filled with dread, because I knew she, not being a car person, would have just picked the least expensive one and called it a day. Thankfully, she didn't. "I went with the second...

I am aware of the Opel connection. I thought it was obvious :P That's why I said it's a thing that Opel does.

The "What On Earth Were They Thinking?!" thread.

Opel did that on the Insignia Tourer many years ago. Seems like a thing they do. Also the Audi A1 has them, I thought I'd seen it on an Audi too.

I mean the motor unit, not the metal rails if that's any difference. The metal rails were inside the door as usual but the motor/bit where the cables go in was screwed into the door trim.

    Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Yeah, that makes much more sense to me. The whole door trim seemed needlessly complicated. Just when you thought you had all the screws out, there was another one hiding somewhere. Everything is attached to or goes through the bloody door trim so to take it off you have to disconnect everything...

The Renault went French yesterday. Got home from work and went to put the windows up, and I noticed the near side front window made a weird noise. I put it down a little and up again, still sounded strange. Stupidly I thought 'oh maybe it will sort itself if I lower it all the way and raise it...

Runva has a very good rep on all the off road forums here. Everyone seems very happy with them.

Ownership Verified: Nation Building: My government-issue Toyota Hilux SR 4x4

Well, the mileage has slowed right down, and 250,000 rolled over the other day. With that came a service, and it being put up for sale. We'll see how much I can get for it in the end, I'm in no hurry to sell but since I'm driving the Renault every day this doesn't get used enough to justify...

Got to experience another typical 'modified' Holden Commodore driver today. He was in a late 90s base model V6 Commodore with a mismatching body kit and some missing door handles. It had a sticker on the back window saying 'sponsored' (I presume he counts his unemployment benefits as a...

Do Americans not understand 24-hour time? You learn something every day. I like the Astras for what they are. They're good appliances. My mothers one has never gone wrong, and when you compare it to other mid 2000s small cars, it has aged extremely well. Only the Golf V still manages to pull...

    Our "own" car reviews

Yes, it's uncompetitive even for a van or pickup. I regularly drive a Mazda BT50 diesel for work and it makes 470Nm. I had a quick look on Renaults website. They don't sell the bi turbo Master here, but the same engine in a Nissan Navara makes 450Nm. So I was pretty close with 'mid 400s' ;)

    Our "own" car reviews

Does it? My single turbo older smaller Renault turbo diesel makes 300Nm. A 2.3 bi turbo would be around the mid 400s mark to be competitive.

    Idiots + cars = LOL

They do breath testing throughout the day here. This is Australia remember. Drinking doesn't stop when the suns up :P Seriously though, they do it on the mornings after big nights like New Years and stuff because chances are there are people who are still well over the limit the next morning...

When you're done with this car, ship it across the ditch and make a heap of money. These things are stupidly expensive now. Like AU$10k plus.
