Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

Sexual assault reports move from the individual churches all the way to the Vatican where it is then handled secretly and internally rather than going straight from the report to the police or whichever relevant authority. The parties involved are then either shuffled off to another diocese or...

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

Being "defrocked" is a long way from putting them up on criminal charges. Child molestation and rape cases are still being handled in secret and within the church rather than the courts. Those 400 are just the ones that managed to "convicted" in an in-house trial. Please

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

He can still make infallible declarations as the pope; it's within his power to do so. The point is moot however, because he has already on numerous occasions said that he has no intention of changing the churches view on homosexuality, the punishment of pedophiles, abortion, etc etc. I don't...

Not exactly what I would call a beginning to anything http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-schweitzer/not-anywhere-close-to-per_b_4429185.html It would be one thing if he were actually doing something, but he's just saying nice things and then actively promoting the status quo. Yeah, screw...

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

What does omnipotence have to do with anything? His church says he has the power to change doctrine and that his word is without error, yet he has made no such changes even though it is well within his abilities as the pope to do so. He doesn't have to hold committees and councils and elections...

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

This is my point, according to his religion, what he says as the leader of the Catholic church is what his followers are supposed to then think; it doesn't matter what they already think about whatever moral issues. That is his power as the (infallible) pope. According to their faith, he cannot...

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

What, you mean the very idea behind his edit:existence spiritual authority?
  18. wooflepoof

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

Yes. HE IS INFALLIBLE. According to his own organization, his word is doctrine. Unless there somehow is some inherent dishonesty within his church that he is then a part of, he can just say things and those things become official church doctrine.

Pope Francis...Time "Person of the Year"

Right, he's the infallible leader. Infallible. Infallible. Why can he not simply make change given that his entire organization believes him to be free of error, especially knowing that the church and many of its members are guilty of many terrible things?
