Oy fellow FinalGearians,

my parents were on holiday in south Germany and saw a car I have no idea what it was. I _assume_ it was American because there is a huge US Airforce base nearby.

Description according to mum (...):

- Ford in small letters on trunk, no name
- Huge, no Mondeo but bigger
- New-ish (no oldtimer)
- Shaped like CLS or Audi A7 with a huge sweeping back

She said it looked brilliant, and she normally hates Ford ;)

I have no clue tbh. Any ideas?

New Taurus?

The cop/fleet version (which it's likely the US government would buy) doesn't have a Taurus or model variant badge on the back.

If D-fences mother ends up buying a US car I will die laughing

Showed her, nope.

Her comment:

Trunk was more sweeping, not as angled as this and trunklid was "interestingly cut" and might have had LED strip, not sure about this though.

Lines more like this

Well, let's back up a bit. Was it two or four door?

If two door... might be an MN12 Thunderbird.

We owned one of these ... beauties.... (the touring though, not the hideous rear). Didn't have a swooping rear end though ;)

Is it possible someone bought a European car and just stuck a Ford badge or lettering to remind him of home or out of american pride?

??????

They are actually quite common those Probe's.

But nevermind, could've been also an Cougar...

Could it be this?

I'm not even sure if Americans got them already ... but it could be.

Five Hundred?

Probe: Definitely bigger
Mondeo: My first guess too, she said bigger.

I have no idea, maybe someone trolled and put a ford badge on it........I am curious because she said it SAID Ford, like in it had Ford in writing on trunk and not the blue oval.

Is it a Lincoln with a Ford dealership sticker on it? There were a few nice looking Lincoln in the 90s.

Could she be mistaken in thinking that it's new?

I can't think of a modern Ford that had the old style lettering. I think that pretty much disappeared in the 1980's.

Edit: Here is the rear of a 1969 Torino Talladega

If someone shaved the door handles, put on some modern wheels and figured out a way to make the headlights look more modern, I could see several old Fords as cars that could be mistaken for modern cars.

Since Ford's European HQ is located in Cologne, it could very well have been a pre-production version on the road.
