Jon Bentley investigates car bumper safety, Vicki Butler-Henderson tests the 200mph Superformance Le Mans Coupe, and Tiff Needell races a Renault Clio 182 against a Honda Civic Type R, giving the winner away in a competition.

Actually vicki hasn?t gone over 200mph yet, so she is not at THE club :186:

and what about the crash test they mentionned in this week ep ?

Sounds interesting. I really am liking Fifth Gear lately.

presumably something to do with car bumper safety, though I haven't watched this week's ep yet.

I don't think so
just watched the preview again
and the crash test is between a honda civic and a big Mitsubishi Pajero
entitled "when big cars hits small cars"

the Pajero hits the civic by the side and looks like a huge crash ! :)

I guess it could be a bumper issue... perhaps making a fuss about the compatibility of big offroad vehicles with high clearance bumpers and small honda civics :D

Personally, I think they should have used a truck with a big bull bar / bumper for added effectiveness :D

Either way, I think I enjoyed watching the Pajero smash the honda a bit too much :D It was like a Rugby Tackle

^^ Nice Wrangler BTW.

Pajero

You're probably a spanish talking person, right? You should have explained that Pajero means "boy that pleases himself". ;)

I presume it was exported as a Shogun or whatever then - lol

Actually, it was Montero. One of many name changes, because of the language. As MR2 in France...

Thanks :D She's running the same headlight internals as the 2004 Dodge Viper - so I thought you'd like it :D

Valeo Sylvania just used the same parts in a new housing for their aftermarket division, Xsighting :)

Bull bars are illegal in this country.

I know... it sucks! I still see quite a few SUV's around in England with what I would call brush-bars on them... A-tube and some headlight protection, but not so many vehicles running the Australian ARB bumpers, or some of the big ones from the states.

Although I suppose with the price of petrol in England you want it as light as possible!

Pajero

Haha I keep forgetting about that

Pajero in the Middle East
Shogun in England
And I think Montero or Pajero in the USA / South America depending on whether you bought it before they realised the error in translation? :D

In fact it's Pajero in Portugal. I can only imagine how Pajero drivers are looked at in Spain, when some portuguese Pajero crosses the border...

Well, it makes sense - they are designed to make sure that the object you're hitting takes all the force and the vehicle takes as little as possible - and when that object is a human, it's simply deadly.

I know... my house-mates here at university thought I was TRYING to kill someone when they heard what I'd put on the front of the Jeep :D

You'd get more people looking before stepping out in traffic though if bull bars were more common than VW Beetles :D

I've noticed people are a lot less willing to chance it and cut me up since installing that front bumper, so as a preventative measure it's safer :D The Wrangler's frame rails are just behind the skin of that bumper anyway, there's very little crumple zone to begin with. My friend in the US actually nocked someone over in the car park with his Jeep, they weren't looking and walked out between parked cars, and the guy actually grabbed the tubing on the bumper stopping him from falling and hitting his head on the ground.

Of course being america, the guy is now suing the Jeep owner claiming he was hit at 40 mph, which a Jeep can't do in the space available
