Note to any BBC execs reading - TG in HD please. And I have paid my Licence fee. Hell that trailer looked so good - looked like a Golf with a "rocket" motor up its bum.

I can't wait, roll on Sunday.

I too love all the challenges. From that preview alone this series looks fantastic. I've never been more excited for a TV series. I generally hate TV, aside from Top Gear and Trailer Park Boys. Maybe a couple of others.

I shall certianly be one of the first to download when its up (sorry, had to say it).

Not all of use have computers to handle something like a 1080 rip. The ones who do torrent episodes do it so everyone can view.

Also, I think you should be a little more thankful that either River or VUK (especially VUK!) rips them for the benefit of all. The whole process probably takes two hours of someones time, more so for a 1080 rip. Then they throw it on the net to make no money, but probably contented that rabid fans like yourself are able to view it.

Really, until you pay the tax that people in UK pay to view Top Gear, you may want to reserve your opinions, please.

1. They would never rip it in 1080p HD-only. The Polar Special was available with torrents in SD, 720p, and 1080p. I went for the SD first so I could view it quickly, then got the 1080p later and watched it again :)

2. It doesn't take 2 hours of their time, it takes 2 hours of their computer's CPU time. It probably takes them only a few mouse clicks to do it, since they must have the whole process scripted pretty well by now.

3. Ahh, the mind of a socialist, I must pay a tax in order to voice an opinion! In case you forgot, here in the USA we have freedom of speech.

My post wasn't intended to sound ungrateful, it is sad you read it that way. If we are only getting SD Top Gear, the fault of that lies solely with the BBC, not the scene rippers, not finalgear.com, etc, I think that is obvious.

Nop. The GT3 RS doesnt come in grey. Im guessing its either a Carrera S or a Carrera 4 S.

^ Indeed.

Looks kinda like Richards one actually....?

The Sunday listing for the BBC HD channel does not show Top Gear anywhere. The BBC program planners seem to think an HD version of Antiques Roadshow is a better use of the timeslot :wall:

I don't have an HD TV, but even I can't understand this. What is a better use of their HD cameras? One of their biggest primetime shows that captures the highest ratings in it's timeslot, or a dusty old program about a bunch of dusty old codgers taking their dusty old crap to get valued?

Stupid BBC fools... maybe they do it because the dust on the antiques is more noticeable in HD?

I can't wait, only 1 more day to go! And from the promo clip it seems like THEY GOT THE VEYRON! Can't wait to see how it does on the TG track.

You're right!!!!!I can't wait to see the veyron- maybe the Stig will do a lap round the track :tvhappy:

And the trailer has made me go hyper!!! POWER!!:)

Hopefully there is more of me (James May's Laugh) in this season.

His face is utterly helarious (like my spelling).

Still that's 2 hours of CPU time. Nothing can be done in those 2 hours on that computer, the strain on the CPU is extremely high with x264. The rippers also seed the files and that reduces their internet connection speeds greatly.

Now just 18 hours and then the wait for the rip!! ... I wish I had bbc at my place :) How is everyone??? I'm going to get trashed tonight and its almost the time for new series!!!

I agree, its much nicer sitting on a couch watching Jezza, Hammond, and May with their antics on an HDTV, not hunkered in an office chair watching it on my monitor!

The SD rips look just fine on my 50" Plasma! Well, I guess it is kinda upscaled to 720p... but that's not the point! :p

A bit OT but here's a new banner that's being used to promote Top Gear across all bbc.co.uk/ websites.

Who the fuck is "West" ?

Get it? :D

Greetings, lip

Unless they're complete idiots, they probably run the re-encode at low/idle priority so their PC is still completely useable. All of my PCs at home and work are constantly at 100% CPU utilization because I run World Community Grid in the background - no different than running an encode/rip in the background. It doesnt affect the usability of your PC one bit.

FWIW, I personally re-encoded the 1080p x264 Polar Special to WMVHD at a lower bitrate so it would fit on a DVD5. It took about 30 hours on my Athlon64. I could play games on it like Counterstrike with the encode running in the background just fine.
