Jennifer Saunders was brilliant and I think it would be great if she comes back and tries to beat her own time.
As for the BL challenge, it was good, but it lacked something that I can't put my finger on that would have made it even better.

I *am* impressed that Jeremy was able to get through a DBS review without *once* referring to James Bond or Casino Royale.

I also think that May *should* have taken the DBS to the Stelvio Pass, instead of that racer. Much more comfy, no?

It's an alright ep. I didn't find the challenge all that interesting.

The DBS looks nice and sounds nice, but like Clarkson said, they should name it DB9S. It's just a sport version of the DB9, it's not a whole new thorough bred car. But I do like that they gave it a true manual instead of the paddle shifting automatic in the regular DB9. And how can the Vanquish beat it so badly, isn't it just 10hp more, I was expecting the DBS to edge out the Vanquish because it's manual and probably have better traction with the new diff. But the track time is not bad, for the money though, I would pick the new GTR, no question.

Buick, actually. Could have been a real winner for GM...

I really liked the look of the Dolomite, I can see where Datsun ripped off the styling for the 510.

Also, is it me or did the ride height of the Austin keep changing when they were wandering around the factories?

Man I am surprised it took so long for someone to get the correct origin of the Rover V8. Buick really screwed the pooch on that one. They gave up on the engine because it was too expensive, too complicated and too difficult to make. Typical GM from that time period and actually well any time period.

A friend of mine actually had a Buick with that engine in it brand new. He could blow the doors off cars with much larger much more powerful engines just because of the lighter weight of his all aluminum engine and because of the big fat torque curve it had. Unfortunately those Rover V8s always had a tendency to eat head gaskets. Even the last gen 4.6 liter versions in the Range Rovers and Discos ate head gaskets and they do not respond well to overheating.

Overall I gave the episode a 9. It was very, very good probably the best of the season. As to the doors falling off on the SD1 it could happen. In my 10 plus years in the car business I have seen wheels, hubs, tie rods, sway bars, and more fall off of much newer cars. It wouldn't surprise me if a door fell off a 25 year old Rusty SD1.

I enjoyed the episode, but it was still lacking something. The Leylands section was a bit slow to get going, but it was hilarious at MIRA. As for the DBS review, to be honest I lost a little bit of interest. Sure, it's a great car, but I would like a little more variety in the reviews. They've felt a little stale so far through this series. D:

I think what was lacking was the actual Point B of the initial RV point -- changing it around like that may have emphasized the anachronistic history of BL, but it distracted the boys from the actual business of talking about the cars.

As for the DBS, given the amount of publicity it got over the past year, it would have been unusual if JC *hadn't* given it a review. Frankly, apart from the 500, there's not that many new cars out there that would have gotten our boys salivating enough to give a whirl round the track.

If you had the money to afford a AM, why not put down the extra money for the DBS? The GTR comes from a different cave completely and it wouldn't look as good or feel as good as a AM on the road.

That said, I think I had a vision of a GTR's rear thighs in my dream a few weeks ago. And it was envigorating.

Great episode, 9 out of 10.
I've always liked their "crappy old car" challenges. This one was very similar to the one in series 6, but that's like saying that Jennifer Connelly looks a bit like Rachel Weisz (to use a Clarksonian simile without mentioning Keira Knightley).

Didn't care much for the scripted "oh no! the door's fallen off!" stuff, but there was still enough of this unexpected, spontaneous silliness that makes TG so entertaining, like Clarkson rubbing his woolly, egg-soaked head against the seat of Hammond's car. I don't know why, but this scene still makes me chuckle.

And yes, the elderly lady who blitzed the track was awesome. I've never heard of her before, but answer me this, Brits: If your grandmothers are so good at driving, how can your nation be so bad at playing football? :)

I gave it a 4.

Its like, i liked the episode because its Top Gear and i can sit there and watch reruns all night long.

But this episode had its moments, they just didnt do enough. It was only like, 3 things.

I still liked it though.

I thought it was a great episode. I love the cheap car challenges where they actually keep score.

I was laughing hysterically when Jeremy couldn't get his car up the hill for the hand brake test and smoked the tires rolling backwards.

Did anyone notice the white Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster at time 47:20 in the background. I think its Jezza's wife's car. She wrote in the sunday times about owning a Vantage Roadster in her westfield article.

There is a AMV8 convertible and a Audi R8???? not sure it's a R8 or something.

And they are gone.....

Great episode I reckon.
The BL stuff had me in stitches, not so much the obvious gags like the eggs or water, jsut the more subtle stuff like bits falling off (and how Jeremy and Richard both kept slamming their doors into James'!) - also loved Jezza going straight on at one of the corners with locked up wheels... great cars
The Aston review was good, but as others pointed out it's hard to get excited when the standard DB9 is so good anyway. I reckon they should go the full GT3 way and produce a stripped down racier one with proper bodykit and stuff (but not as extreme as the one from ep.1 this series!)
SIARPC also good, never knew she was into her cars that much, but she came across really well...
I still reckon I prefer the "perfect road" feature tho... :)

Audi R8???? not sure it's a R8 or something.

that's definitely an R8, maybe Clarkson has bought one? or if Jezza has borrowed his wife's Aston then it might be May's or Hammond's. or maybe Jezza's wife went down to watch...

That's NOT a R8. The R8 doesn't have airvents at the back of the front wheels. Also I think the R8 is a bit lower.
