I'm not really sure how to say this without having people take it the wrong way, but is it just me, or have the soundtracks this year been, how shall I say, uninspired? I still find them very good and they really make the show. Nevertheless, I don't seem to get that same buzz that I would get back in the season 3-8 range.

44:25 - 44:37 - Not entirely sure but i think this is either from Pearl Harbor or it was used on the trailer for the movie. If so it could be trailer music that doesnt have a name.
It's a production library cue. "Stranger's Return" by Lisle Moore

39:05 - 39:14 - Hans Zimmer - Hunger (from Black Hawk Down OST) ??? Would anybody confirm that?

21:08 - 21:52 - John Barry - Beat for Beatniks

I think some of the music used is turning into "orchestral stabs" - something of an over-refinement in the production. Just my thoughts, completely disproved by the length of the section I've identified... ;)

18:51 - 19:40 - I think this is "bullet frenzy" from 'S.W.A.T." by Elliot Goldenthal. If it's not that track im 100% sure it's from that score.
35:52 - 37:31 - This is 'Man Verses Man' from the bourne ultimatum score - the piece used in the episode is actually from 3 different parts of the track re-edited together.

Great tip!... found 2 from S.W.AT.

Finally someone has said what i've been thinking. :)
For casual viewers the music has done its job, but my main gripe is that they have resorted to the same handful of movie soundtracks over and over. The music worked better when they didn't rely on so many movie scores and/or use the same albums over and over, and chose music that you wouldn't expect to hear. I can tell they were rushed in post-prod this season or didn't put as much time into researching the music in BBCs library.

Glad to know that I am not the only one! While a couple of obscure classical movie scores is ok, I agree that they are being overused, and the ones that are being chosen aren't the best when compared to some of the ones used in the past. I also hope your theory is correct in that they have been rushed for time versus other possibilities such as they have a new music guy that isn't as good!

And it's not like there havent been several new scores released with movies that have atleast one piece (and usually several more pieces) of music that could be used. Just off the top of my head i could suggest:

Rescue Dawn
The Kingdom
Shoot 'em Up
Resident Evil Extinction

The only reason i can think they wouldnt be seeking out new music would be license fees, perhaps the producers feel that they have a large enough library of cues and are forcing the editors to do as much as they can with what they already have?

Many of the segments were edited at the same time, so probably just using what they had within reach. They still seam to be seeking out new music, but the only difference is that film music has taken over. In previous seasons we didn't have such an overuse of stuff from something like the 300 OST, for example. Using it during the epic polar episode was fitting, but it seams ill-placed when they use it in practically every car review they do.
