Fan-bleedin' -tastic! Certainly the biggest laugh of the series for me, and I genuinely loved the challenge. I suspect the Marina fans will be cross again, but they've actually killed more pianos than Marinas in the last two series now, so they may just end up having to deal with hoardes of angry pianists too...
Jag film was cracking stuff, and the whole
Jaaaaaaaaag thing reminded me, in a pleasing way, of Jeremy's Triumph Stag bit on
Car Years. News was much more 'newsy' and although I was really sceptical about having Sienna Miller on the show, I liked her.
But what was best for me was that when the show started, the opening seemed much more relaxed and genuine, and it just felt like the magic that has been a bit absent was back - and that tone carried on for the rest of the show. I know Jeremy remarked in his
Times column this weekend about the way the fansites critique the show, but I wonder whether it was on his mind because some of what people said hit home in some way - the energy around the show was completely different from the rest of the series so far and it was much better for it. Yay for tearing up the script and starting again
