This episode felt so peculiarly weird, that, in my opinion at least, it can't be given any sort of rating. VXR Bathurst & Ute review was pretty good, the news were fantastic for a change, the Scirocco ad challenge was amusing in a very facepalm-ish sort of way, and Jay Leno ('nuff said).

Then... THAT Aston clip. Stunning cinematography and music, but the message it brought home... and the possibilities that it suggested... it felt like it was giving a send-off to the whole point of cars being enjoyable. It felt so strange watching it and seeing the credits roll on this film and on its musical background.

I really hope that this isn't the end for TG.

.... .... that's no way to end a series.... so unlike TG ... but damn... that was a brilliant episode.

The use of the track "An ending" by Brian Eno was quite clever.

That track makes anything amazing!

Like others have said though, it did make me think that maybe that's it for Top Gear! Though that blog article suggests otherwise!

I was thinking the same! Very clever. I would be quite happy if that was it to be honest.

Australian cars were excellent
Ad segment was way too long
News were funny as usual
Cool Wall, well, ok-ish
Jay Leno, well, I expected more :((
Aston Martin: well, what do you say on this? End of Topgear forever? It was cheesy though :/

All in all not one of the highlights :(

I actually do believe TG will be back in autumn. So Michael Schumacher can resume his responsibilites ;) But still, the ending of this show was quite scary. And somehow I think, yes this season was great (I liked it) - but there is nothing really new, nothing spectacular about it anymore so the question really is, for how long does it still live? I do hope there will be a season 25 but I'm not so sure. They also reached a peak with the SIARPC's this season. I just hope TG will be back soon with Jeremy, Hamster and Captain Slow and with new supercars in exotic locations before the hybrids take over.

The bit where in the news where they were showing the parking accidents...the last one wasn't a Honda Clarkson, but a Kia?

I had mixed feelings about the ending of the show. The rest of the episode was great, the interview with Leno was hilarious. James an Jeremy obviously have very different views about how to make a commercial. The Cool Wall was brilliant, particularly, seeing Richard stuck in the cherry picker and Jeremy branding him as seriously uncool.

The ending was a bit weird, I know on their site they said they would be back in November, but still. I would have thought that if Top Gear was coming to an end, they would do it more spectacularly. There would also be more from the boys about the show coming to an end. Maybe the producer or the boys could shed some light on this. It would be a shame for the show to end like this.

It was all run of the mill Top Gear. A fun review, a bit too long VW film, the Cool Wall with Richard up in the air and the Jay who actually was quite a lot more boring and not as quick as I thought that he might be. And then the Aston.

I just sat there and waited for the review to begin and was getting rather annoyed actually until I realized what was going on. At first I thought that this might be the end of Top Gear, but considering his mention of November during the news, I rather quickly skipped that idea.

Then I realized that it was more an homage to the really quick car, which existence is threatened by all the speed enforcement, three letter acronym control systems, eco boxes, the green lobby and a million other things. It is almost impossible driving fast or even enjoying driving today, without something interfering. That is sad, I agree with Clarkson completely.

People born mid 20th century got to live a motoring lifestyle that I never will get close to experience. At the same time, it'll only get worse, meaning that my children will probably never realize the sensation of driving fast, because for them it will not only be illegal, it will be impossible. I'm not saying that everyone should organize illegal street races, because that is just silly. But a bit of racing at the lights or blasting down a winding B-road.. Why shouldn't we?

I do not wish that this is the last episode of Top Gear. It might be after all, but I do not want it to be. I know that this is a bit of a wierd comparison but.. The moment that you realize that you are going to die you get that how-will-I-die-question that has been nibbling at the back of your mind answered. It is almost the same thing with this, I don't want Top Gear to end, because it has made me have so much fun.. But still, the whole show is just a bit.. Without the ingenuity that is once had and.. It would sort of answer that question, "How will Top Gear end?". And they would certainly go out with a bang.

No. I want Top Gear back this autumn.

Oh, yeah. The episode. I don't think that I have laughed as much as I did during the rest of the episodes plus that last film which was great. So.. 10/10 from me.

Started great with Hammonds review!

And then it grounded to a halt..
And where the hell did the ZR1 go?! That was the only thing i really wanted to see this series..
I'd like to quote a "great" englishman here: "Ever had the feeling you been cheated"...

I think the ending was great, but misinterpreted very easily.

I think is gives the message in a very emotional way that the end of the open road, petrol engines, and freedom is coming to an all too early end, and certainly will not be around for ever.

All in all, a great epoisode...

That's in Hungary. Clarkson you cock! :D

I laughed endlessly at the commercials, as well the news.. just did it for me, the VXR reviews were great and LOUD, SIARPC was very nice, Leno is a great guy, Cool Wall..well..the short man got the the tall man, then the tall man gave him the V sing metaforically speaking =)..

And that ending...I felt strange inside, I was touched by it and never before has a car bit touched me..it was absolutely breathtaking.. it was 4 minutes of brilliance and pure car loving emotion..I almost bleedin cried..

The messeage it delivered..about cars like the Aston being more and more endangered and the sensation of free driving as well with all the hippi junk about being green and needing to be driven in an automatic box made of glass..
And that as a young person frightens me..I see Clarkson and the boys having the time of their lives in cars...I want to do that one day..like them..but that film just made me thnik..what if...that never happens to me..?

Top Gear WILL AND MUST be back for S14, which will probably be a great one..since this was 13 the unlucky one..maybe that is why so many of you didn't like it..

Pretty decent episode. Loved the Aussie V8's from the start. The VW ad segment was too long, if you ask me. There were some funny parts, but the segment felt like it droned on for 45minutes. It was more like 15-20, but still. Jezza's ad at the end was pretty funny, gotta give him that. "Jaaaaag, it's explosive!" Jay Leno was alright as the SIARPC. I agree with others about making that interview longer. Or possibly inviting him to join for the News segment. He could probably talk cars forever. The Aston V12 Vantage segment was... interesting. I was expecting massive explosions at any second, just waiting for the joke that must be coming. But it never did. I just can't take Jeremy Clarkson serious enough anymore to actually enjoy a segment like that, no matter how well shot or how good the message. I found myself laughing as I watched, in expectation for a punchline that never dropped.

Overall it was a solid 8.5 out of 10. But I'm going to rate it a 1/10, because they showed a ZR1 during the first episode as a preview of the series and failed to deliver. Lets see, a 40 minute Volkswagen advertisement, or a ZR1 battling against a V12 Audi R8 on the track... hmmm... tough choice. Andy Wilman should be shitcanned.

Pikey...to say roughly a gypsy..someone who is blunt and idiotic..someone who is just..blah..

A part I'd like to stress..really..

Hmm, Hamster reviewing more low volume limited market car porn. Screachy-smoky-roary-drifty, nothing new, but fun to see (again) and good cars for any petrolhead. The news was good, continuing to improve over the sham from the first few episodes this series. The challenge was funny, but dragged out way too long. Some great comedy, but I'm tired of the comedy and want, NEED more car content. The guest was a bit dull, despite being a massive car nut. Maybe he's a better interview'er' than 'ee' ? The eulogy was beautifully filmed and a subtle criticism of modern Britain, its awful policy-makers and half-moron half-apathetic population.

So, all three of them should have a holiday, then settle down to watch some classic episodes on Dave to rediscover the magic.

This show felt like a mixed bag, on one hand we had the cocking about in the VW advert bit and in the end we had the Aston thingy(can't really call it a review). On the whole the show was enjoyable but the Aston bit kind of ruined it for me. I understand what they were trying to say with it, but it left me on the verge of tears and not like some other episodes where I was crying from laughter but I felt sad and depressed. It was untopgearish, not really a bombshell on which to end the show, well not if you plan to continue it like they obviously do. A better ending would have had a couple of explosions, possibly of Morris Marinas or at least a caravan ;)
The other parts of the show were ok, loved from Berlin to Warsaw in on tank :D VW should buy it from them and air it. Leno and the cool wall were good, if only they were a bit longer.
So it's somewhere between 7 and 8 for me.
Oh, almost forgot, who here would like to see James directing a porn?

Outstanding television - I'd spend ?10 a week to watch that at the cinema and feel I'd had a bargain.

Laughed harder than I have all series, loved the reviews, the guest and the end requiem for the dream of supercar ownership both (a) initial relief not another carbon copy Aston review turning into (b) quite moving as the film went on.

I've had my money's worth from the license fee, 10/10.

Nuff said,

Crash
