I know that Eric Bana had a wet track as SIARPC, but I'm sure that Jeremy said he was the fastest Australian?

He should be, as long as you're not counting Mark Webber in the Liana - was .4 faster in the wet.

Well, I loved it..

James reviews..

The CD on Hammonds face..

Sleeping by the dam (sorta)

And James poor Dacia gets squishered......

And the road!!:p

voted for 10*

but. i am not a critic but i expected more from pals, it started out too simple in my opinion, and i haven't seen the introduction of the 14 season. does anybody know why?

I thought it was awesome.. Much, much better than the last "worlds best road" episode. The fact that they only had one road to go to, made it all better - there was more of a climax seeing that incredible road. And the journey going there was great.

And about the scripting.. It really is essential when making television isn't it? I was watching a Danish motorshow a few days ago, and he seemed like a complete amateur. He was driving the Focus RS around a track, and all he really did was listing facts, and making noises exclaiming "this is incredibly fun", and I was like, seriously, how about writing a script? When I'm watching a TV show I don't want to feel like I could do it better..

But obviously, the sheer talent in Top Gear would mae it awesome even if they cut back on the scripting. :) But it's by no means a problem in its current form, imo. Makes for some insanely entertaining television.

love the episode! great kick off to season 14!! i never liked the look of the Ferrari California, but it sure has grown on me!

Heyhey

Heyhey

Loved the episode, but the powertest with the BMW vs. the Mercedes was stupid:p
They opened that one by reading a "request from bankers" that they wanted a fast car, that was discrete, so that people wouldn't see that they had alot of money still, after the economic crisis.
From that request, picking a BMW 7-series and an AMG-Mercedes, is bonkers!
These cars pretty much scream "I HAVE ALOT OF MONEY!".
Wouldn't a spoiler-less Evo, Impreza or Skyline do the trick in a much bigger way than two high-class german saloons? Laughed at James being tumbled around in the backseat though:p

Also loved the bit from Jeremy about how driving these cars in Romania is like going to Sudan wearing a suit made of food. It is so true.

6/10 :)

Funny episode, woulda been 8/10 but that road just made it go 9/10 :)

anyone notice that eric bana (1.47.5 w) was put lower than the well spoken man (147.6 dry) ?

Kind of chaps me, personally. it know it was a mistake etc. but i really like Eric as a car enthusiast. Which by the way, his new movie/show "The Beast" is released today.

hope everyone enjoys it as much as i do, i love big power N/A engines and even more so when they are used to their limits.

Sorry, if i am being a cock here, but i don't want to read the entire 11 pages to find someone reference it. if i didn't notice it first i'll eat a tea-spoon of naga jolokia hot sauce in retribution.

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

Excellent start to the new season...in glorious HD no less.

I'm definitely biased for the episodes that are basically a big travelogue for some exotic place or a killer road (like the Stelvio Pass from Season 10), but this one came together nicely and never felt like it was rushed or, oppositely, dragged on and on (unlike some segments in the previous few seasons). I didn't see the Sandero thing coming at all and nearly jumped out of my seat when it got hit by the trailer. Also much to my surprise, James genuinely seemed to like the car which is a nice change from the Beetle in Botswana or the Ameri-bike in Vietnam. And that helicopter pilot? Talk about balls of steel...

Ah, Top Gear, how I've missed you. It's good to have you back!

It is a depressing world where more people would rather see Sam Fox stick gross things in her mouth than Top Gear...

There's about a 1000 lines there but don't go there.....!;)

Can we ban talk about scriptedness ? Seriously as if people are still stuck on that like a broken record. Tg has likely been scripted since day 1 that's how modern television works. The end. Talk about the weather in Romania or something. Anything other than this continuous drivel about scripting.

 Guess who your +rep's from

True it's personal opinion but unless you've been a long time lurker you have no idea how much people have whined on about every aspect of scripting and it gets on your tits.

Hell, I've only been on here 6 months and it's getting on my tits (and they're bigger'n your cause I'm a not-a-dude:p)

I have to say, are we not past the whole "this was scripted, that wasn't" phase yet? I mean come on, yes some of it is scripted, might be 99% of what we see, but enough is enough, i can't even hear about it anymore. The show works, it's funny it's excellent and it's got a very unique feeling to it like nothing else on TV anywhere in the world.

We finally get an episode which is about cars and people just find more crap to whine about, this is what the show is, it's what it was since it was relaunched, and it's what made it so damn popular all around the world, either give up the whine fests and enjoy it or stop watching it, cause it's not gonna change any time soon.

I loved this episode. I loved James' German review, I loved the roadtrip in the super cars (and am completely shocked about Romania), that road in the end was utterly stunning and the only problem I had with the whole episode was the news which were far too short and the interview with Eric Bana which was a complete disappointment. Ever since I watched Love the Beast in the summer I was praying for him to be the SIARPC and now that they brought him it was so pathetic...far too short and not covering the topic of cars even remotely enough, I just hope we get an uncut version of it.

To sum it up, 9/10. TG IS BACK :D

Yup, really disappointed we didn't see more of Eric, and gutted the track was wet otherwise we might have a new leader!

He should be, as long as you're not counting Mark Webber in the Liana - was .4 faster in the wet.

Webber is a professional racing driver, Bana a talented amateur :p

Hit the nail on the head for me with this review.
I need to watch it again when I haven't been awake for 56 of the last 60 hours due to partying at TG Live :D (she says, showing off that even us old girls can still go hard or go home). But still voted it a 9.

Such a joy to see James doing some reviews, and Stig in a blazer and Top Trumps were chortlemaking.
I dislike intensely the split screen power laps, find them really annoying, but as long as they don't do it to any of the supercars I can live with it .

The news was good, hoping next week the "Soggy Bugatti" shows up, think it might have happened too late for this ep.

Romania was great, that autoporn car park WOW, ohhh those exhausts in the tunnels, and that DBS yum. I hated the kids writing in the dust on the cars, kept going nooo! the paintwork! (sald old bint i am). Loved the "antique" comedy throwback with the phrasebook, Mony Python lives on ;). Yes there were lots of non-PC bits, that's one of the reasons we love TG isn't it? Like many others I wish they'd spent more time showing us the road but still awesome cinematography and flying!

Have had a week of MPH/TG Live, James contact and now TG and have found the kitcar I want to build one day (the MEV Rocket http://www.mevltd.co.uk/) - what a week! :D
Bring on Ep 2!

Anyone else find it funny that Clarkson doesn't think Top Gear is ever broadcast in the US?

I find it funny that you can't see humor when pushed directely into it with your nose :p

man at the start of this episode i thought "Romania is not a place i want to visit" and by the end of the show i placed it on my "places to visit before I die" list alongside the stelvio pass XD.

And you know they've been setting up the dacia for 3 seasons XD.

Also did anyone notice that Clarkson blatantly lies to Bana about TG airing in the US? Don't they show it on BBC America. Supposedly thats how Leno watches the show.

Just saw our segment again. Don't know why but I loved it this time around. Props to the guys and the local TG mag for all the help they lent them.
