Nissan

Datsun 120Y, from the B-L challenge, proven
Datsun 240/260/280Z
Nissan 300ZX (from Old vs New test)
Nissan 240SX
Nissan 350Z/370Z
All Skylines
and finally, the GTR.

And consistently reliable... sort of (see last entry).

No expectations, but this does seem like a pretty car-centered ep...Chris Evans sounds good if he can match his last visit.

Cars on Top Gear? MADNESS.

(they really should just rename the show Top Cocking About cos its not really about cars any longer)

It actually is still about cars but they don't do the traditional reviews as much as they used to. The cocking about bits are always related to cars or motoring so it is still a car show.

Lamborghini. As long as you disregard reliability issues and burning carburetors on the earlier models.

Lamborghini. As long as you disregard reliability issues and lack of any motor sport legacy.

Fixed that for you.

I'd also nix Ferrari, as they pretty much gave up GT racing after the 60s.

I'd venture Ford. Good fun cars for the masses.
Cortina.
Escort.
Mustang.
GT(40). [Well maybe not so much the masses for this one]
Thunderbird.
Sierra.
Focus.
Etc...

For more exclusive cars I would go Jag.
C-Type
D-Type
E-Type
XK (all)
XJ220
XJ in general (minus the XJ40 of course).

So, isn't the Audi R8 tested last episode a car? I've always suspected it was some kind of weird motorbike, now I know I'm right. :D

Yes, a car which was released almost 1 year ago. There has been released TONS of other, newer cars in the meantime.

I was thinking ford before they said it last night:p I know this won't go over well here/at top gear/anywhere other then in my own head, but I LOVE datsun/nissan sportish cars. I suppose thats a personal definition of great though not a general one, as far as generally goes ford has to be up there.

Cocking about is more fun than car reviews anyway. I don't watch Top Gear to learn about the latest cars. I watch it to get a laugh, to marvel at the spectacular cinematography, to watch some supercars carve it up on fantastic roads.

One of my favorite episodes of all time was the Vietnam special. It didn't have any cars in it.

IMO this is why Fifth Gear failed. Car reviews are boring. Save those for Motorweek. Or go for a test drive.

If you want to watch something funny watch a sitcom or QI or whatever. Your reason is stupid.

It's not stupid reasoning. You just don't agree with it.

Anyhoo, I hope this one's better than the last one. (Turns out I just needed to sleep on it. See appropriate thread.)

VW.

Beetle (yeah, yeah.. the presenters hate it but it's still one of the, if not *the* most important car of the 20th century).
Golf
Scirocco
GTI-models (JC voted for the original Golf GTI as the greatest car of the 20th century)
Transporter
Phaeton, Corrado (both highly underrated cars)

Also VW spawned the Porsche 911 and (through Audi) kicked off the whole 4WD-performance-car-wave in the early 80s. And let's not forget the Bugatti Veyron, which is also VW-developed.

Lotus:

Seven
Eleven
Elite
Elan
Cortina
Europa
Esprit
Carlton
Elise
Exige
Evora

Not to mention all the cars Lotus has helped engineer into greatness...
