It was good at the beginning with the airport race and the three 4x4s, but then, before the Twingo test, everything was completely ruined by a "letter" from "Mr. Needham" who insulted everything about Top Gear, as well as whining (again) about the show not doing any "proper" tests.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I think if there is a Mr Needham, he's simply pathetic, hopeless, ungrateful and absolutely humourless and he doesn't like Top Gear at all, he shouldn't bother wasting everyone's time complaining about no proper tests!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Even if the letter was a fake, it was absolutely uncalled for.

Overall, a good episode, but it would have been a lot better if if wasn't for Mr. Needham.

Are you for real?
If so may i ask how old you are?

I gave this episode a 7/10

But I have to ask, am I the only one who thinks that Top Gear is going in the wrong direction in this season so far?

I get the feeling that they are trying to get the highest ratings no matter what, but I think this will kill the show on the long term. I watched and loved the show, because it was a great... And I watched every episode more than once :)
But this season I get the feeling everything is produced too fast and kinda with not a lot of new ideas. At times it feels like a cheap copy from the original where a lot of the bits are overdone and feel very scripted. But what I hate the most, is that Top Gear is becoming a comedy show with some car bits instead (how they liked to be) a CAR SHOW with some comedy bits... Being serious/informational and entertaining at the same time, that is Top Gear for me, a nice balance from both...
Now its more like, how ridiculous can we get with cars IN EVERY episode. This is getting boring very fast. In the past I also liked the cocking about, but it wasn't dominating every show like today...
I honestly mis the car reviews, not like mr. needham wants it, but like in the past with the murcielago sv, clk amg black, ford fiesta or the veyron reviews... Also I miss the very exotic cars you normally don't see, but Top Gear showcases once or twice per season, like the gumpert apollo or the veritas rs3...
I would be very disappointed if some certain cars wouldn't be tested this season like the ferrari 458 italia or the merc sls amg and some others nice cars that came out in the last months...

Again I don't think top gear should become an idiotic comedy show aimed at the whole family, but should stay the best car show in the world made by petrolheads for petrolheads that don't take everything too serious. I liked clarkson because he is combining his humor with serious and interesting topics to make it entertaining and educational at the same time... Look at his older series like speed, motorworld, extreme machine etc were he used the same entertainment "ingredients", kinda what james may is doing lately in his own shows...

I don't know why they went like this, maybe they are all very busy with other projects, so they don't have the time to make the great and unique shows like before... Or maybe the budget cuts (andy wilman announced budget cuts a year ago in his blog) are showing their results... But in my opinion, if they continue like this, they are better of, taking a longer break and use it to come up with some new ideas instead of recycling the old stuff...

And if I get back to this episode you know what I mean:
The airport racing: Kinda like a copy of the bus and truck race they had in older shows but not that funny anymore... I missed clarkson and may in this bit... But in all it was watchable

News: This is what I'm talking about, they only had one small interesting car news and that was the M5 CSL, for the rest of the news they desperately tried to be funny.

SUV review: Pointless cars, but the review had some interesting and cool bits... But disappointing since this was the only car review in this episode which was kinda (in a top-gear style) serious.

Guy Ritchie: OK, but not more, quite boring at some parts...

Renault Twingo: This had some very funny parts like when Ross Kemp was popping up or the green car question. But for the rest, it was a bit predictable, too long (15 minutes) and not as far as good as the ford fiesta film.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Top Gear is a great show, but kinda get a feeling they are going the wrong direction with this season...

I hope I'm not the only one, but I don't get people who are voting the episodes of this season a 10. I reserve a 10 for the really epic and perfect episodes like the polar challenge or the veyron episode...

PS: Sorry for my long my post, but I had to get it of my chest ;)

Edit: The more i think about it, I should have given it a 6...

Oh man that poor little Twingo. The review of it was great, but when Jezza started slamming into things I was cringing. Renault if you're listening bring the Twingo to the US, I'd love one of those cars.

Airport Race: Better than I thought it was going to be, but still not great.

News: Used to be one of my favourite parts of the show ? used to be a bit longer, and I liked hearing their opinions on what's new. It's sort of broken down recently into a formality that they just need to get over with.

SUV thing: I really enjoyed this. Classic Top Gear with no gimmicks-for-the-sake-of-gimmicks. Obviously the cars were going to be wasting and expensive.

SIARPC: I really wish they had more car guys on (Chris Evans, et. al.). That said, I'm glad they kept it short.

Twingo: I enjoyed this. I knew it was going to be similar to the Fiesta review, and probably wouldn't top it, but I enjoyed it just as much.

Overall, I think an 8/10. Probably one of the better ones from 14 so far. But not quite as good as they used to make them.

Edit: Just realized I forgot something that the show forgot: James May. The man's interesting ? give him a film or two to make. This week and last week were both lacking a lot of May (last week he was in a blimp, and that's it ? this week there wasn't anything with him).

This episode left me feeling cold, really not great at all, and WAY off pace from

The airport vehicle bit was a clever idea to use interesting vehicles, but they weren't "crunchy" enough to make a funny demo-derby bit.

SUVs, who cares? Your average car-nut doesn't really care about them, they care about fast and fun cars, not trucks that women drive their kids to school in.

SIARPC, don't care, always skip. I care about cars, not celebs.

Twingo, this test seemed really haphazard and unrewarding. It's a great car, so let's ruin it? For how much he praised it, he didn't give a very good sense as to what the car was like.

I rated this episode 6/10. It should have been less.

Better than the second, worse than the first or third.

Fun to watch, but forgettable in the long run, I think. Aside from Ross Kemp, I doubt in a year's time I'll be able to tell you anything about what happened in this ep. Still, I chuckled a couple of times, and enjoyed watching.

I'm an above average car-nut, and I'd love one of those SUV's. As fast around a wet track as a Porsche, carries the wife and kids and could tow a 747. Just what I'd need to tow an Ariel Atom/R500 to a trackday along with spares, tools, mates and family. Great for a Euro road-trip too, apart from all the fuel they'd drink, but then again, if you can splurge ?100k on an SUV I don't think fuel prices bother you !

Tonight's episode was a bit of a letdown for me, so I gave it a 6/10.
It just felt like I was watching a rerun. Thought about giving it a 5, but some of the things made me  and I changed my mind.
TG has been my favorite show for quite a long time now because it has 2 things I enjoy a lot, cocking about and cars. Not only that but as the presenters like to say, TG is always on the cutting edge of cocking about. And I think that's missing from tonight's episode, it was just a recap of things they've done before.

I've never been a big fan of the "various transport vehicles racing" and tonight's race wasn't any different, it was rubbish. It does offer the components that make TG fun, cocking about and cars(or at least some kind of vehicle), but these segment are kind of pointless to me. They're not very funny, are not reviews, so not informative and the thing that I find to be the dumbest is the story they make up so that they can do the race.
Now, these segments have the feel of a soft porn, the story actually spoils it, they need to lose the story and make it more hardcore.
For example do a real demolition derby, that would even give the touring car drivers a chance to practice for when they're older and they've spent all their money on fast women and cheap cars(or something like that) so they have to do demolition derby's to earn money and survive.

The news segment wasn't anything to write home about, although seeing the village people and cock jokes did make me laugh. James pretty much summed it up in his comment on the M5 CSL.

The SUV part was ok, even though I don't really care for SUV's and find these modern ones pointless. Having said that I would really like to have that Overfinch H&H Range Rover, I'd park it in my living room and use it as a bar :D:D:D
It was nice to see more than 2 cars reviewed in a show, but as far as reviews go they weren't spectacular.
I mean half of the SUV part was spent in the studio looking at the RR's "super duper fantastic wonderful multiple screens in one" and directing a movie on it, which was already given half a news segment last season(I think it was last season, correct me if I'm wrong).

The SIARPC segment was just plain dull. I am a fan of most of Ritchie's films and I've read most, if not every, SH novels as a kid, so I will go and see the movie when it's out, but this was just a shameless plug.
It feels like he had no other reason to do TG except to plug his film, it would've been more interesting if they did talk about Madonna.
I know there aren't a lot of celeb petrolheads, but a few more guests like him and they can just cancel the SIARPC segment. Although I have to say maybe Jeremy could have asked better questions, like about his previous movies and not about winching. Hearing Guy repeat that you have to get a car stuck, so that you can pull it out, a few times isn't very entertaining.

Finally the Twingo bit also was ok, even though it was almost a direct copy of the fiesta review, which added to the been done before feeling of the whole episode. Would've been better if they did a simple review and not the acid trip copy review.
The "No, its red." and Ross Kemp in the boot was funny though, crashing in the sea wasn't(at least for me, maybe I'm just growing up, hopefully not ;))

IMO this was the worst episode this series, maybe even in the last few series. It had no memorable bits and I don't think I'll be watching it again tomorrow, like I watched previous episodes again the day after they aired.
Hmmm... Maybe I should have given it a 5/10(that's the lowest rating a TG episode can get from me, maybe a 4/10 if they showed nothing but static for the entire hour ;))
All of this is of course just my opinion so don't get mad and insult me cause you disagree with it. I still think TG is the bestestest TV show ever and that tonight was just a one off.

I haven't re-watched an episode since S11 !

Pretty cool ep, but weakest of the season thus far. Only TG can make trucks interesting for me. Renault review was great but the senseless crashing of the car irked me. I hardly understood the news because I'm a colonial.

7/10

Frick on a stick, I thought he was toast when he went upside-down in the tunnel

Epic! 10/10

Epic! 10/10

I thought this episode was friggin' Epic!
Best of the Season for me, so far.
I had the feeling the season had a bit of a slow start.
Tears of laughter here for the airport bit and loved the rest of it.
Guy Ritchie seems like a pretty decent guy for someone who married a superstar like madonna. Couldn't believe he actually bought a second hand car. Loved to hear that.

Eitherway, this one rocks.

Oh man that poor little Twingo. The review of it was great, but when Jezza started slamming into things I was cringing. Renault if you're listening bring the Twingo to the US, I'd love one of those cars.
Having driven the newest Clio (not the sport, obviously), the old Twingo, The Renault 19, having owned a Renault 4 and 5, now owning a Renault Fuego... I can tell you: Renault knows how to build cars that drive utterly brilliant. Hope you can get one, one way or the other.

It's just a shame Renault don't know how to also build cars WELL

I give it a 9/10.

Why, because I was happier after I watched it than I was before I watched it.

I even liked Guy Ritchey and that was a surprise. I have only ever known him as Mr MaDonna. He is not as dull as some of you seem to think. I think he would be great to hang out with. I have never liked his movies, but I might this latest one. And he was going all out on that VW lap.

I love when Jeremy talks to people. He just seems to be so at ease. Loved the twist in the tunnel. I like that little car too.

Too little James May this time, but hopefully some of the outtakes will feature him.

This episode sums up what's wrong with top gear the last years..

Actually wanted the hockey-players to rip open the door and pop one in Jezza's mouth for being so uninventive and dull! Really, if he's going to keep this up, I'm going to have to watch fifth gear :)S).

cheers from Norway

When I vote, it's compairing this episode to all the rest....so I voted a 6 :(

Like others have said the season's been a let down, including the special "Uncovered"

I just hope TG-A is good next season.
