I thought it was alright. the reliant part was funny. i laughed every time he rolled. except the last one.

And I don't really like the cut and shaky camera cinematography...but personal preference.

Bentley - Usual power test, I especially appreciated the lady with those fire stick things as a styling element for the segment.

It's called Poi. A friend of mine does this... it's amazing. Combine it with long-exposure photography and you get stuff like this:

I could summarize and tear it into bits, but I won't because it doesn't deserve such in-depth analysis.

That is how you start off the new season. Review, mini-challenge, news, SIARPC, mini-challege. Perfect.

Would have given it a 10, but the reliant part started waning in terms of humor after about the 3rd crash. So 9 for me.

A good solid "back to basics" episode. A good balance of serious and cocking about, with small doses of humour throughout, vuvuzelas, ITV piss take etc.

Bentley review - Good strong review, as i say, back to basics

Volcano - Excellent, few wobbly camera shots of the volcano from the cabin, although it was cold and windy.

News - not much to say here, mentioned a few cars, nothing major

Lacetti Funeral - I liked this, a scrap yard is a sad place, as they say, they're not just cars, they're memories, places you have travelled etc.

SIARPC - Felt this copied of the Lacetti introduction, and got a bit boring.

Robin Reliant - We all knew what was coming, it was just finding ways of making it interesting, rolling into the Reliant fan club (who took it well, not like the Morris Marina Club) rolling accross the cricket pitch etc. And also the drive into the inspection pit, where you can't quite tell whether it was scripted or not.

What was that car that they showed to introduce the Reliant segment? That looked interesting.

More of the same please Top Gear.

Great episode! Everything was well done with the exception of the local celebs at the barbeque. But since most of us in the states don't know who most of those people are (with the possible exception of Bill Bailey), it just seemed to be random people and unknown references. James and the volcano was awesome. The Reliant was hilarious! The news and funeral were entertaining. The Bentley review was fantastic, but I would have loved to see more of the comparison with the Aston. Seeing those two cars driven side by side was like pornography! I wanted more! But that's a good thing! ALWAYS LEAVE THEM WANTING MORE, ANDY! WELL DONE!

How funny would it have been if the reliant film stopped after the first crash?
I think it would have been at least 90% as funny, at about 5% of the air time used  could have stuck in another entire segment there.

Great opener! Was entertained throughout. Jame's Iceland film was sick and the rest had plenty of laughs. Hoping to see the Cool Wall!

9/10

You know that part in the Reliant section when Jeremy says "cue the music"? What other times have they used that music? I know they definitely used it before, can someone tell me specific episodes? Thanks!

Looked like one of the old 3 wheeled Morgans.

Yup, looks like a Morgan F-4.

If my memory serves me right then it was related to amphibious something... *goes off to look it up*

2 Thumbs Up.

Loved how talkative James was in the news. (what did they do with those carmalized cocoa leaves?)

I liked he said the Toyota was the best offroader he had driven. Red Toyota trucks make me happy when I see them.

Going to watch it again just to be sure I liked it.

Dear Richard,

For the love of all that is sacred, get a proper haircut. James May's spaniel look actually looks far better than...whatever the hell it is you're going for.

Love,
A not-a-dude

Overall the Hilux segment was my favorite, along with the Bentley lap, the SIARPCbit, and the first two-thirds of the Reliant Robin segment. I'll give the episode a high 7.

I have to say I really missed TG, glad its back.

BUT....im not all that happy with this episode, although it might just be that I am used to better stuff for the first Ep like in season 14 with the romanian roads or in season 13 with the "60 years ago"-race. I'd give it 6 points.....

Bentley - nice bit, nice cinematography, good, solid

Volcano - great, nice landscape, James doing his job really good

News - Well...ok ...the news, Dacia segment was hilarious

Celebrities - Old idea, not very funny.....

Reliant - predictable, I would have bet my Porsche 944 that he falls over after 10m, not funny, boring

Not a promising start, but I'm sure they will do better next time...

Seriously, I have no idea why people complain about the Reliant segment, I was laughing so hard I fell off my chair..

Bentley segment was really good. Love the experimenting they do with editing.
News was ok.
Killing off the Lacetti was pretty poor. Hamster makes it clearer and clearer each segment that he isnt as good as James or Jezza.
SIARPC was crap, nothing more to say really.
James' volcano segment was brilliant. Talk about Balls of Steel!
Reliant segment was epic. I havent laughed so hard in a very, very long time.

So, with Hamster's segment and the SIARPC segment being crap, I score this episode at 8/10.

I want to say the Vietnam episode.

Anyway, good episode. Maybe, 7/10.

I thought it was just good fun. A good mix of cocking around with some actual meaning!

I wanted to hear more from Bill Bailey though... seeing him next week though! :D

I expected more film in the Volcano part too. I really enjoyed that bit, and it makes up for the reliant segment (I laughed at it at first, but then it got predictable)

ITV joke: For a second I honestly thought the video was broken, but then I heard JC's voiceover

It's good to see the news are being news again, and the Bentley review was very good
