The last Aston was a Vanquish... fuck everything since, including the DB9, ok, i'll take a Casino Royale coloured DBS.

Excellent episode, one that I will watch again!

Aston: excellent review from James, as always. Loved that he took it off the track and I was interested to see around the track although I would have liked to have seen more.

News: very funny, I enjoy the boys acting like naughty schoolboys every now and then, so their reactions to "growler" were extremely amusing. Adore when they can laugh naturally together :)

Hot hatches: it was this segment I had been looking forward to, and whilst not bad in any way, it lacked something. Perhaps it didn't engage me as emotionally as some other 'races' we had seen in the past. Still, the scavenger hunt was entertaining and the laps around the track were exciting. I will watch it again today, perhaps I just need a second viewing with fresh eyes :) What a beautiful country Italy is.

Guest: I've actually watched both guests this series. Usually I fast-foward. A new trend for me, perhaps?

This season seems different though.

Yeah, so far so good. I would still like to see more car tests outside of the TG test track though. As James demonstrated, many of these cars are a completely different animal on normal roads. And since they're road cars, not racing track cars, it makes more sense to test them in the real world. For the most part anyway, they can't really legally test the cars performance to the maximum extent on the road either.

Well, there were some laughs, but there were too many obviously scripted events. In the first episode it felt just more solid. Yes, I know Top Gear is scripted, that's no secret, but the secret is to make these scripted event seem unscripted, and I'm afraid in this episode they didn't pull it off as good as in the first episode.

That's why I gave it a 7 which is still solid, but not the 8 of the first episode of this season.

More yummy treats dished up by the Top Gear crew! Enjoyed every segment, with the only slight flaw being the scavenger hunt challenge, which I felt dragged on a bit. Good concept, not so good execution. Could have been improved if they just had to pick up several bulky items and transport them somewhere to test practicality, in my handsome opinion. Still, a good 9/10! This is shaping up to be a brilliant season.

Although I can understand people skipping the SIARPC segment because they don't care for celebrity gossip I don't get why people fast forward over it because they don't know who the guest is. Surely at one point in your life you also didn't know who any of the Top Gear presenters were either? At least give them a chance.

one thing annoyed me

NO! Positive camber ... its negative!

Oh yeah, I pointed that out to my wife while they were talking about it, I kept saying "It's bloody negative, not positive". Even she knew about negative camber ala on the GTI we used to own. :)

Because we don't know British celebrities.

Wonder why....oh yes, because it's a BRITISH show...

Oh well, I won't go anywhere futher before a massive row breaks out. I just wish Top Gear was not so global, I'll put it that way. There's a clue. BBC = British Broadcasting Company.

It was okay, the fact that they didn't seem to know the difference between positive and negative camber was a bit weird.
They were going on about positive camber being when the tops of the rear tyres are facing in!
/ [ ] \ = negative
\ [ ] / = Positive
This just shows there complete lack of understanding, gags seem to play a bigger part than actual facts!

If, for some reason, I'm pressed for time and can't watch an entire episode, I will sacrifice SIARPC before any other segment, if I don't know who the star is. I have watched it when I had no idea who the person was...and been pleasantly surprised, I've also watched some of it, then fast forwarded to their lap...and I've watched it, and thought "this is boring" and skipped the whole thing.

There's no right or wrong way to watch an episode of Top Gear, I think. :D

Yes, I know Top Gear is scripted, that's no secret, but the secret is to make these scripted event seem unscripted,

It also depends on what you script. When Jeremy says something in a review like "there's room for two children in the back, and in the boot... there's room for two more", obviously this is pre-written. There's nothing wrong with that though, because there's no acting involved in delivering that line. The studio bits for instance in this week's ep were the wrong kind of scripting: written jokes that were told in such a way as to make the viewer believe it was spontaneous, and that require role playing. Same with some of the scripting in the challenges.

Wake me up when Aston does something other than make little variations of the same car over and over. It was a good review though, i like that James is able to look at the car from a different perspective. the news part was too forced for me and not really funny, but that's just me. I watched the SIARPC eventhough I don't have any idea who that guy is. I found it pretty enjoyable. The hot hatch part was great. Overall, not as good as the last episode, but still good.

Am i the only one that is kinda disappointed that they didnt do a lap on the track of those hatches? (Fine its gonna be slow but would be interesting to know!)

And i am sad that no one picked a Mito XD

Overall great episode, and gosh those Astons looks excatly the same....

- Oh, it's the new Virage! Too bad the Zagato V12 is the only Aston that looks different from all the others. Yes, I know it's basically the same shape, but the bigger wheel arches, the new hood and front/rear bumper design make it one of the best looking cars I've ever seen.
- News segment was okay, at best, but I did get a laugh out of it.
- SIARPC was actually pretty enjoyable to watch, and I especially liked the story about his "tank". And damn that was a quick lap even though it looked like he was all over the place at times.
- Hot hatches were awesome! The Renault is boring and fat, the Fiat is too damn small, but if they would ever sell the DS3 Racing over here in the States I would drop everything and find the nearest dealership to go buy one. Also, the Hot Laps at Monaco were great even though Hammond and May got the shaft when it came to who they got for their instructor.

(why can't I get quotes to work??)

Eye-Q: "Yes, I know Top Gear is scripted, that's no secret, but the secret is to make these scripted events seem unscripted"

I think it's pretty safe to say TG isn't that particularly good at it. This is probably one of the most common "complaint" people have. The fact that you can "see it a mile away" makes it, well, unfunny. But I digress.

Bunji: "Although I can understand people skipping the SIARPC segment because they don't care for celebrity gossip I don't get why people fast forward over it because they don't know who the guest is."

I agree. They're usually very entertaining, regardless of who it is. Actually, this episode's guest was the first one for me that I did fast forward...

But now onto more pressing matter. Lady with glasses, if you're reading this, please marry me. :)
