Hi folks. It’s been another long period of time since I posted anything. I drop in and read the forums occasionally, but just haven’t had anything relevant to say during this virus thing. At this point, I’ll also have to admit that I’ve become addicted to ‘bringatrailer.com’ and reading (and posting some comments) there eats up a lot of time. I did, however, do an 'ownership verified' post on this car a couple of years ago but I couldn't find that one when I searched my history. At that time, I listed it as a 1968 Triumph. I subsequently learned that it was built in 1966 and the difference was the result of Triumph's 'quaint' method of cataloging inventory and providing data to the DMV for the purpose of creating titles...
So, due to a really odd turn of events, I’ve sold the 1966 Triumph TR4A that I owned for 38 years. I was working on getting it back on the road and had sent it to a specialist shop in Ohio. That said, I’ve known the original owner’s nephew, Kent, for years and had kept in contact with him all through my ownership. He has been trying to buy this Triumph from me for a long time. When I took the car to Driven Classics for some restoration work, I sent Kent a note; updating him about the work I was going to have done. He asked again if I’d sell, even though he had just gone through a divorce and really wasn’t in a position to buy another car right now. Unbeknownst to me, he also contacted his cousin, the original owner’s daughter. She sent me a note telling me that she would really like to buy the car before I sunk a lot of money into it. More notes and phone calls followed and I finally decided that, with my being 71 years old, I was going to have to find another caretaker for it sooner or later – and what better place for it to go than to return it to its original family? I trailered it to her and her husband’s home Saturday. Driving away without it was certainly bittersweet, but I knew that I’d made the right decision – and she was ecstatic to have her father’s car back home! Here are a few photos of my life with ‘Elizabeth’.
