Ownership Verified: 1993 Nissan D21 Hardbody - Peak rad?

I'm a fan of a dark gray or maybe a deep bronze color. Are you going to paint the truck or keep it OEM?

We are a long way from paint, so it'll be various shades of black for awhile. If paint happens I'm thinking a dark green, but I keep looking at my old purple (well the color's name was magenta) Hardbody thinking that looks good too.

Bronze might look good too. Might play with that in a photo editor.

I don't like the shiny bit in the middle of the black wheel. If it was all black, that would be better in my opinion.

These are new center caps, don't want to paint them until I make a decision. But I see your point. Looks a bit police car ish.

I did a quick search for Nissan wheels and you don't seem to have a great selection of factory choices. This makes me realize how easy I had it with the S-10s. I had Buick rally wheels in 14" and 15", 15" Pontiac rally wheels, snowflake wheels in 14" and 15", early 90s Firebird 5 spoke, 80s Z-28, and Chevy slots. That doesn't include the oddball swaps I did with other projects I had at the time.

Oddly, my trailer has that same 5x4.75 (120ish mm), but finding something to replace the Rally wheels has been difficult.

You are correct though, the 6x5.5 (139.7 mm) bolt pattern is lacking in choices. These Escalade wheels have had the center bore enlarged to fit the larger Nissan hubs. I used to have Suburban wheels on my old one, same thing had to be done with the center bore.

Some take the extra step and swap a Ford Explorer rearend in and modify Toyota truck hubs for the front. Gives you a much larger selection of 5x4.5 (114.3mm) wheels to choose from.

You probably need 15"? I have a set of 14" snowflake wheels.

Got the lowering kit on today. Need new outer tie rod ends, then cut those down to get the toe set correctly. Will probably lower the front a bit more too with the torsion bars.

Edit: Oh, forgot that the new MAF came in today. Took 5 minutes to install and now the truck doesn't hit a very low rev limiter. Looks like the old one was damaged by someone not knowing where a screwdriver goes or doesn't...

Worked on the truck some more tonight. Got the new tie rod ends on and the toe eyeballed.

I also got the three tires that still needed the beads seated done. That required deflating them, spraying the bead down with WD-40, inflating the tire to about 20 psi too much, then hitting the area that still wasn't seated with a plastic mallet. Once the bead seated there was a loud pop and then I would get a face full of WD-40. 🤣

I then took it for a little spin and found that it ran good, but idle was crap. Something else to sort out. Well, that and removing the rear bump stops. There's like no travel right now.

Finally had a chance to wash it and go snag a few photos. The 30 year old paint is showing it's age, but I think a decent rub down and wax and it'll pass for awhile. The right side isn't the good side either. Fender, rear bedside, tailgate etc. all a little worse for wear, but again 30 year old throw away truck.

This also shows me the black is not right for the wheels. I'll eventually give them a hillbilly turning and make them like new (and hit the other side too while at it).

Also going to put a cat on it (when it shows up from Amazon) and get it registered thereafter.

Dog lights? Do they attract or repel? 😂

You are making me miss my runt trucks!

Fixed a few minor things that were bugging me, but still can't quite get it to idle nicely. Now I am sure that the #4 cylinder isn't quite right, dead in other words. Something to play with.

Meanwhile I got it safety inspected and registered today. So it's now road legal.

What does the spark plug look like?

Saw the topic and instantly thought "lowered mini truck" and I wasn't disapointed. Needs 13" and slammed hard. That stripe is pure 90's.
Great car!

Looks to be a little black and a little wet. I'd say this is ignition related. Someone replaced the distributor (I had it out when I did the timing chain, but it back rather than the original), coil, cap and rotor at some point when they were trying to get it running again. Maybe I'll put all the stock parts on and see if the miss goes away. I don't trust electrical parts from these big auto parts stores.
