Thats the first thing I said

But anyways - I recall it being something about it getting damaged on a high kerb after taking evasive action. It was in 2000 I think. I forget. But I had CheckIt (dunno if you know the company) perform an inspection of the vehicle. They specialise in inspecting for shoddy repair work because my initial thoughts were "it was involved in a bad crash where it got rear ended" however the inspection proved that the vehicle was in perfect condition and there was no evidence of it being involved in a crash before.

Hmmmmm, fair enough, and good on you for being suspicious too, I'm sure alot of ignorant car buyers just take a seller's word as gospel and get screwed over with things similar to this.

And the fact that Subaru obviously didn't say anything at the service means it's all good! But yeah, it must be annoying knowing you could potentially have another 10 litres of fuel!

13.2L/100km is still a little high but better then 15L/100km :p
I wonder how much it will improve if you go with out climate control for a week.

SL65... the fuel consumption is horrible, even with me living right in the CBD and such, I get about 400k's out of my 50l tank... on highways, I can easily get about 550km per tank on Unleaded 95.

and why do you need climate control now? I don't even recall turning on my aircond since I bought it 2 months ago.

My fuel economy this week has been pretty good actually. I will report on how it goes because I think my car loves the 98 octane!

As for climate control - why not? If you have it, use it. I get up in the morning, the temperature is cold so I turn it on. And besides, Sydney is in the middle of torrential rain this long weekend so its not as if I can put the windows down anyway...

btw - AWD FTW in this wet weather  RWD would be pretty fun though...

don't suffer from subaru-itis though, just because it's AWD doesn't make you the next colin macrae. Take it easy on the roads.

yeh how crazy is this rain, its been pissing down non-stop almost for a good 2 or 3 days now. maybe after all this i can wash my car with the hose without breaking the law :D

i do wish my car was awd sometimes, its stupid in the wet. aquaplanes all over the place, no traction at all from the lights. seriously i tried to overtake an excel from the lights, it was a bit of a mission.

your fuel economy dosent sound to bad to me around 12km per 100 in the city isnt bad going.

I'd agree with Dav, for a bigish car with an auto 'box, you're doing alright. I've done 422km on three quaters of my main 90L tank around the city and suburbs of Wollongong. So, that's roughly 16L/100km, in $1.35+ diesel. That's combined with the fact it has a pace somewhere between "glacial" and "snail". But, for such and old, huge car, with a huge, old engine, it's remarkably efficent.

Got new exhaust tip

Got new exhaust tip

Well remember how I said I'm not a fan of aftermarket modifications and wanted to keep this car stock? Well I might have just broken that rule, but I swear it was for the better!

I got a new exhaust tip to replace the cars original one which was looking pretty sad after 8 years of use. Its the same diameter, just a little longer and I got it welded on yesterday.

Here are some pics of my huge modification :p

Apart from that - cars running well. My economy HAS improved since upgrading to 98 octane but its still not that good. I'm getting around 370 kms off approximately 47 liters. You do the math...

how gently have you been driving? though I wouldn't expect too much in the way of fuel econemy, my dad's old one was pretty horrid on fuel burn

That's about the same as what I get from my MY02 Impreza RS - which has pretty much the same drivetrain as your car - so I'd say that's about right. I find my economy improves a lot on long journeys. I think the 2.5 really chews through petrol in the city.

Nice exhaust tip BTW - not ricey or anything like that.

Oh, and I thought we did maths in this country....

12.7L/100km sounds about right.
In case you were wondering how to calculate L/100km it's:
(amount of litres usedx100)/amount of km travelled.

Sorry for the late reply but I've always driven gently and with care for the motor but I got another update for you - since having my ECU reset recently, I've been able to almost get 400kms out of the tank so things are finally looking good. It seems that an ECU reset was in order after all these years.

I've also noticed the gearbox shift much nicer without the big kick in the back. Remember it is an auto btw...

She's looking great

About the fuel milage, at least it's getting better, seems strange to me that I would be getting more out of my tank, and I'm turbocharged! :? I can range about 280mi/450km on a tank, as long as I'm not being too spirited.
