Ownership Verified: 1998 Volvo S70 T5: He who keeps buying Volvos...

Usually STP, Gumout etc...are around $4 and are considered pretty generic.

Lucas has a great reputation regarding their products. They have a regular injector cleaner for $5, but this one was $10 and supposedly better...

Had the first local Volvo gathering of the summer. Went for a drive in mountains and had quite a few run-ins with the cops. We got away with it though.

Even got to play with a yellow:

They are the same length. Basically the same car.

It could be an optical illusion because the yellow is running on coilovers and is much, much lower than mine.

Nah.. the last comparsion showed me what I already suspected. The indicators and hlights are way more bend around the corner and along the fender with the newer model, so the distance wheel well <-> indicator is bigger, which made it look longer. Adding to that the lower part of the bumper on the yellow one is more orientated forward than on yours, high. All that made me run into this trap :D

So in another words, you would recommend a 850 rather than an S70?

I do not recommend anything. I just think the longer (looking) frontend of the car makes it look a bit better than the other one. :D

There's just no pleasing you people! When I want to put R parts on my car you tell me that I shouldn't because it's not a real R, but then you go on and tell me that the R bumper is much nicer than mine. What am I supposed to do? :p

I have finally made up my mind on a name for the car - she shall be called Tropic Thunder.

Today she cost me $850 - changing the timing belt, tensioners, pulleys, coolant flush and serpentine belt replacement. Worryingly my mechanic said after removing all the old parts that they looked original...at 110k miles. They were supposed to be done at a Volvo dealership, for which I have a receipt at 70k miles. Apparently dealerships lie...who would've thought, right? :)

Hopefully the morning whining noise is gone. I'll report back tomorrow after I start her up.

Nope....whining noise is still there. My mechanic is baffled. Next step is to replace the oil pan O-rings, but I can't afford to do it now.

At least I know that whatever it is, it is not catastrophic.

Have you checked the power steering pump? I have a whine too, almost sounds like blower whine at times. Annoying but not really serious. All the pulleys and the water pump were replaced during the cam belt and serp belt service I had done a while ago, didn't help.

The serp was off. The pump wasn't working and it still made the noise.

Today I learned it's possible to make an S70 look swoopy and aerodynamic
