Good or bad things about it. Would you get the 2.5 or the 3.0 L engine. Interior looks good to me but haven't really touched it or been in a Jaguar.

Just looking for some information from owners or people who bought this car. It can be an older model too.

That is one of the few cars I can get which have a manual tranny, other than a BMW 325i 4-door.

So anything will do :)

My aunt has a 2004 X-type 3.0 AWD (auto).

I've been in it a few times, and it has an awesome ride on the highway. It is so easy to stray over the speedlimit since 80mph feels like 65mph. She also says it has good acceleration. Only problem is that i hear it has very bad depreciation.

I think the X-type is a nice car. It was one of the cars we were considering before we went out and bought an S-type, we needed something with more space... The 3-litre engine is phenomenal, we borrowed an X-type 3,0 manual for one days abusion...

What an awful, awful car. Avoid it at all costs. Go with a vastly superior German example.

It's so obviously just a gussied up Ford Mondeo...the interior lacks quality and the little touches that make German interiors so good...the seats are highly uncomfortable...and it feels very unstable at high speed. I had one for a weekend and found it to be awful.

I've heard the same. Never actually driven one though

Here's a high quality road test of the car from a very good UK source:

Thanks... Just a little detail: Itr says 2005 Jag not 2001

Well, he said old ones too.

Anyway, here's a review of the 2004 2.0 diesel model:

And here's our own James May's review of the estate version:

Here's the full list from the Top Gear site:

Well, its a guissed up Ford Mondeo, but thats not a bad thing. It has comfy seats and a nice ride. Stop being critical for no reason. :)
I'm not being critical for no reason...I hated the car. I wouldn't be here telling you about it unless I felt very strongly about it. It's uncomfortable, finicky at high speeds, and just oozes cheapness.

In my opinion, the X-Type is the only nice Jaguar money can buy. Who cares if its a Ford Mondeo? If the Mondeo has good handling, why say 'its just a Mondeo'?

Jaguars are very nice cars... over here... the only reason why no one buys it is because there is no resale value... along with Alfa Romeo's and Peugeot's...

That was a great read. Everything I expected from Jaguar at a reasonable price.

Dr. Woo: Remember that I'm in Canada and will probably never hit 140 km/hour. Plus the Mercs cost a lot more than a similarly priced Jag and BMWs are what everybody else drives. Ever since I started observing the streets, I only saw one Jag in about 3 weeks time. Very few Jags on the roads. Plus they are built in Britain :) and then shipped over.

A few more things from me. I'm only going for a Jag due to it being a better car and offers a manual. Yes I know BMW is a great car but I just see too many on the road these days. And all the domestic full size cars don't even offer a manual. Stupid North Americans and their slush boxes. Also I drive pretty hard so would the 3.0 benefit me more. I mean it's just another 30 hp more than the 2.5 version.

The reason you see so many BMWs is because A. Image (probably number one) and B. they're magnificent automobiles.

The X-Type is not a better car than a comparable 3er, also available with a manual, and certainly not better than a comparable A4 (manual available as well). Hell, I'd go with a Legacy GT 6-sp over the X-Type. Have you driven the new Legacy? Drive them back-to-back. Magnificent car.

The bottom line is...the X-Type is shunned by Jag fans, it's always inferior in comparison to its competition (read any magazine comparison), it isn't selling well, and it was a Ford project to add sales to the Jaguar brand. Not a project to create a well-balanced, exciting car.

If you want a Jag, get a used S-Type, but for heaven's sake, avoid the X like the plague.

I was in an S type sport sport the other day and was impressed, felt good and stable/fast, easily as good as a BMW if not better and nothing like a ford. As for the X-type being based on the Mondao maybe partly but it has quite a few difference like the 4X4 and better interior. I don't think it should really be knocked for that.

If that's better than the Mondeo, then I pity Mondeo owners.

Status image here :) and I know they are magnificent automobiles.

The A4 is also more expensive because I don't want the 1.8T engine. I have been inside an Audi and it just didn't appeal to me.

I will check out the Subaru Legacy GT but I think I'd prefer a Euro car instead. We will see.

That bad. But it does get a lot of good reviews from customers and bad ones too. Then again every car gets that. We will see. :)

Check out a 2.0T, then. Vastly superior engine to the 1.8T, and especially to the Jaguar's 2.5L.

Of course, I'm not sure how soon you're looking at getting one, so it might be out of the question to wait for the 2.0TFSI and the 3.2FSI to get over there.
