one simple answer, because they CAN and people like you and I cannot.
With regards to property and to a lesser extent expensive jewellery, they will only appreciate in value (I'm talking about obscenely large rocks), whereas, last time I checked , most cars seem to lose value from the moment they are driven out of the showroom.

A maybach shows people your bank account and status as a successful person. It's a reward to themselves and to their pride in their accomplishments.
There are things you can do with wealth rather than squander it on ridiculous cars like the Brabus Maybach. Furthermore, the fact that people seem to think that there isn't anything better to do with wealth than spend it on ridiculously priced cars is quite disturbing. There are countless practical things wealthy people can do with their money, and there are countless weatlhy people out there that actually do practical things with their money.

I am honestly not jealous at all. I just strongly dislike cars (or any objects) that become purely status symobls. I also have a problem with wealthy people who get so lost in the elitism of being rich that they are willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money on ridiculous ego-affirming status symbols.
If I had enough money to be able to afford a Maybach, I would be disgusted with myself if I bought one. If someone were to offer me a car such as the Maybach for free, I would not even take it - unless of course I could take the car and sell it right away (
). If I were purchasing an expensive car, I truely believe I would have an extremely difficult time justifying any car over $50,000.
I share a similar sentiment. If I could sell the Maybach, I'd accept one and then get rid of it for a proper driver's car.
I used to think that my old man was a big bore for not buying a Porsche 911 years ago when I was a kiddy. Now that I'm approaching the stage where I have to think ahead (read: family) I can see how I was wrong. Property (and gold) is one of the few things in this world that will always increase (sure it will have dips/lulls in the market but, is always on the ascendency).

Another thing is the exclusivity, the Maybach can be purchased by entrepreneurs, royalty and even the local despot. If it was to be built on a very very limited number, then perhaps it would appear more enticing in my eyes, but as I said earlier, it is a car that will be driven by a chauffeur, not the owner.
