So my good old Fiesta is gone, here is the new one :

It's the 'S' model so basically a ST with a 1.6l TDci engine rather than the big 2.0l petrol, 16" alloys rather than the big 17" alloys and slightly softer suspensions.

The suspensions are stiffer than my old Fiesta so I have to get used to be less comfortable, but that should help on the N?rburgring :-D
So should the engine, so you may think Diesel is evil and should not be considered as "sporty", and with 90hp you'd be right, but this car got so much torque (200NM) that it's a blast to drive. Many journalists actually prefer the 1.6l TDci rather than the big 2.0l of the ST which got more power but much less torque.

As far as the chassis is concerned, it's classic Ford so it handles great and with the stiffer suspensions there is hardly any body roll.

It's got some toys too in it:
AUX socket to plug the iPod, auto windscreen wipers, auto headlights, auto folding mirrors and all the standard other toys you find in this kind of cars (electric windows, etc.).
Most of this I could do without but hey, they are here so why not enjoy them :-D

well, the interior and extras are just like mine (I own the Ghia).
I just wish I had that engine :(

Anyway, great car and i wish you'll have more luck with it than with the last one.

Thanks :)

I will be doing my first "big trip" with it tomorrow, I think it will be good ^^

Big gobs of diesel torque in a small car is good. Better than thrashing it up to redline just to minimally move it.

Nice little car. Good luck with this one, needs a Panda & ?Ring stickers on the back to personalise it. :D

Welcome to the Fiesta S club :) It's exactly the same as mine, except I have the 100HP petrol version (I prefer the rev-happy nature of the petrol engine).

A blast to drive, and probably the best of both worlds, since I hear the TDCi engine is quite frugal. Certainly the petrol one isn't

We should create a Fiesta S Finalgear group ! :-D

How is the 1.6 petrol in the Fiesta? We had one like that in a Focus and it was a bit weak when you didn't thrash it and rev the guts out of him!

I did a lot of highway and some nice roads at enjoyable speeds and I averaged 5.5l/100km

Wow!!! Congrats killpanda!!

I didn't know you got rid of the old one. I always loved the Fiesta S's and the way they looked. Love the colour (Black Euro Fords FTW ^_^ :p) and specially the rims

Did you also get the sporty seats or did it come with the standard ones??

1.6 petrol engine is quite a lazy one. A friend of mine has got it in his Focus and he really needs to rev it up to get some enjoyment out of it (unlike the Ti-VCT ^_^) :p

Anyways!! Congrats again!!! ;)

Thanks mate!

Unfortunately the sporty seats were an expensive option so my brother didn't took them when he bought the car.
Mind you, the standard seats are already quite supportive so it's not really a problem ^^

As you and Vltros point out, the 1.6 petrol in the Focus is not exactly brilliant, probably due to the extra weight and a gearbox more suited to highway cruising than to mountain-road bashes. This doesn't mean it can't move the car (top speed is somewhere around the 180 kph mark) but it doesn't "like" to go there.

On the other hand, the 1.6 petrol in the Fiesta is a completely different animal. It feels alive and fizzy, probably helped by the shorter gear-ratios. For cruising at legal speeds, you don't really need to thrash it. The only problem is that it's an engine that just asks you to rev it, and if you're not careful soon you find yourself into not so-legal territory. It still amazes me how easily, given a clear stretch of road, I can go from 90 to 140+ with just a mere press of the fun pedal :)

Of course, the combination of short gear ratios and an engine that begs to be thrashed means that fuel economy is not that good. At constant highway speed I reckon I could average around 7 l/100km, which is not that bad. But in the heavy Valencia traffic the best you can expect is about 9. In specially heavy traffic (like in the chaos that is now during the Fallas) I have averaged 10-11l/100km. With my weekly commute (about 360 Km, 80 in the city and the rest in the motorway), the on-board computer predicts about 510 Km with a full tank. That's about 8 l/100 Km. But I knew all this when I bought the car, so I can't really complain :)

Now all we need to know is how well does perform the 1.6 Ti-VCT in the new Fiesta compared to the 2.0l of the old ST and the 1.6l of the old S, it should be right in the middle.

I suppose it will turn the Fiesta into a little grippy and fast GTi. We could say that the Ti-VCT it's the atmospheric option for a Ford Sports car whereas the ST it's the Turbocharged one.

The 2.0l of the old St was too heavy for the fiesta making it a fast car but not as good at cornering as its rivals. The ST will probably be a Turbo 2.0L (like it happened with the Clio Sport) making the same error they did in the past.

I really think they should got atmospheric for the Fiesta ST. That chassis loves to be under pressure all the time and the lovely sound the Ti-VCT engine makes would make the Fiesta the new GTi. Don't you think??? :D

Well... all I can say is that I can get to 140km/h in Third gear with the Ti-VCT. The geabox I got with the Focus is just superb! :D I suppose the gear ratios are different with the Ti-VCT engines.
With my old Escort I got used to change gears really fast as the gearchange felt like it was made of stone, so I could punish it. And I still can do that with the Focus. And the fuel consumption is not that bad either. I get an average 8.5l/100Km with combined driving and at highway speed I get to 6.5l/100Km or even less if I use the cruise control.

I'm having a hard time getting used to the gear shift in the Fiesta, it's quite difficult to be smooth between first, second and third but I my skill is growing kilometers after kilometers ^^

Speaking of kilometers, I was bored on the highway earlier so I decided to try some nice roads my satnav always wants me to ride on... and it was bloody fantastic, twisty like you want.

I  this car ^^

Oh and by the way, if you love small roads with nobody on them, buy a Garmin satnav, they never make you use the big roads, instead they will find smaller roads that I suspect aren't even on any map :-D

yes! you get it. torque + lightness FTW. You win a free internet and a +rep from me.

Also, nice little Fiesta there, would be my choice if I were in the market for a similar car.

Oh shi...

Love the new car, quite a difference in looks from the old one. Enjoy it :)

AHAHAHAH, I will eat your Saab on the 'ring!

It seems the Fiesta is quite popular on the forum ^^

Right now it's at the mender, my brother spotted a weird noise and some steering wheel vibrations a few weeks ago and we finally got a bit of time to leave it there. Apparently it is a wheel bearing issue or something like that, luckily the car is still under warranty so it should not cost a penny to repair :)

:( A shame, I really like these cars. I didn't know the Zetec S has a TDci version too. Also, your Peru number plates a way cooler looking than ours.

If you make a reference to the number plates of the car, they are actually the French number plates, where the car is :-D

The Peruvian number plates looks like this:
