2007 Canadian Grand Prix

Racing at 300kmh is never "safe"... unless you drive banked ovals. :tease:

Check out the IRL's safety record... or lack thereof.

Japanese commentators FTW!

The Street-Fighter graphics are awesome!

On a happier note, it was great to say Hamilton win. However, I'd rather see him win in a more legit race where more of the contenders were involved. Don't get me wrong a win is a win and he could have easily got caught up in the drama but didn't so he deserves credit.

In many respects this race was actually harder to win than a 'regular' race - Lewis wasn't able to build up a nice buffer and just defend it. He had to work hard all the time to get his gap back, always pushing.

yeah, but honestly even though they do test safety like crazy....you just cant forecast such a unique crash like that. car held up very well i think. if that was a few years back he'd of had more than a broken leg for sure.

perhaps without the hans device he may well of had his neck snapped when he went head first into the wall

I don't think that his feet showing is as bad as it looks - The car's ripped the cover off the port hole where they adjust the pedal box etc. The front bulkhead is still pretty much intact. Regardless the crash was horrendous and no amount of crash testing could replicate the loads involved in that crash. Think back to the 1995 Indy 500 when Stan Fox had his major crash. Things have improved so much since then (yes I know it's a different category but construction methods are now uniformly much better) - Image here:

The HANS is the best safety device in the last 10 years in motorsport - 10 years ago that crash would have without doubt resulted in a fatality to the driver.

Edit - what was up with RBR's 2nd pit stop for Webber - why didn't they bring him in during the safety car period?? Pretty much a braindead decision there!!!

Obviously following Honda's pitstop strategy!!

Yeah... was totally poor form - I got my hopes up when he was running 2nd and I thought finally - a lucky break for webbo...

Yep shafted again. Could have been worse though - could have been DQ'd like Massa & Fisi!

Why is the rule stupid? When the Safety Car is on Pit Straight with all cars behind it, then Pit Lane exit closes so that you dont have cars coming out into a slow moving field of cars.

Its not a stupid rule!!

Kubica stopped at the red light, Massa and Fisi should have too, but didnt, so they deserved to be DQ.

Did Massa and Fisi get in the way of anything? I believe the SC was already past the pit straight and they kept on the red light for too long. The rule has a good basis but needs to be altered. Just because you hate Ferrari doesn't mean they deserved to be DQ'd.

I wish ITV had shown the press conference, at least in the highlights later on.

I think no broadcast showed the press confernence.

FOX didn't show, heard Ten didn't show, and now you said ITV didn't show it.

I wonder why?

I did read what they said on F1.com

Wow, I don't think I've seen this much coverage of an F1 event on mainstream American media in a while. FFS ESPNNews covered this race, and even covered Lewis winning more than they did the crash.

The next 3 races are on Fox; turning point in America?

Well if they put F1 in a channel that you don't have to purchase like FOX then F1 interest will surly rise.

But even though showing these 4 races in FOX means I can watch it in HD, I was very angry that they didn't show any pre-race or post race coverage.

those pictures are just shocking, not many years ago there would be no way he would have survived that.

the crash kinda reminded me of roland ratzenbergers crash:(...im just happy that the out come wasnt near the same:D...hope he makes a speedy recovery so he can reclaim he rightful place on the podium!!

you can also see his feet sticking out of the monocoque in the last pic

The rule is that you have to rejoin at the back of the pack if you rejoin the field from the pits during safety car. This is to prevent drivers gaining positions on pit stops on circuits where the pit road is shorter than the part of the circuit(like in a recent DTM race at Lausitzring). IIRC Webber had not driven past the pit exit when Massa rejoined, and Massa might even had got ahead of him there.

Whether they kept or didn't keep the red light too long is irrevelant. One of the basic cardinal rules is that you don't run the red light. It boggles mind that big teams with world class drivers made such an error, while young Kubica didn't. After Montoya's black flag last year it was obvious that the penalty would be big.

I would imagine (and this is only guesswork on my part) that the rule started being enforced after Imola 1994. What happened was a driver (Comas I think) for whatever reason charged out onto the circuit during the red flag, rushed around Tamburello and arrived at the Senna crash scene at full speed. Even if it wasn't the case, then with that incident in mind, its a very good ruling I think. Not sure if it needs to be altered, this is only the second case that I know of (both at Canada), so I'm not sure there is a problem?

I had to wait until last night at 11pm to watch the race, it didn't air here until then. Spending all day Monday trying not too find out what happened was a challenge, I did pretty well, all I heard during the day was, "Hamilton leads the Drivers Championship" and "Robert Kubica had a crash."

The race was amazing, best GP so far this year, got to love Canada :canadian:. Very good job by Hamilton to get the win, he deserved it. I was laughing at Alonso and turn one, made my night. :)

Very happy with Webber's performance, he had a really fast car and was using it to its full potential. Glad he got to finish the race without any mechanical failures, ninth place was a decent result (he finished only 0.0something behind Ralf, so close to getting a point). Although, I think he would've finished in the Top 5 for sure if his team didn't stuff up his pit stop strategy. Why did they wait...I don't know. :? RBR still have to sort out the realiability issues though, Coultard's gearbox failed...

Ferrari had a poor race, don't know what happened. I think the DQ for Massa and Fisi was a bit harsh, I think a 10 sec pit stop penality would've been sufficient, but that's the rules I guess.

Kubica's crash was horrific and was pretty scary for awhile there, glad he's going to be ok.

ITV followed Webber's progress throughout most of the race, which made me happy. It's always good watching Webber race!! Channel 10 coverage was crap, why McConville was there when he was racing that day, I don't know. His comments suck, he just repeats what ITV tell us during the race, why bother with commenting TEN...and the time they spent chatting at the end, they could've shown most of the Drivers Press Conference...who cares if we miss five or so minutes of the news.

I don't know why I noticed this but the flag marshals seemed lazy, their flag waving technique was pretty poor. :p

Obviously following Honda's pitstop strategy!!

Webber pitted before Barichello, so Honda were coping RBR. :p

Go Canada!!!

Lewis's story.

thats why, they dont care so much for the racing....more so for the story of determination, a dad who played 3 jobs to help his son race, the bold move to speak to ron dennis an tell him " i wanna race your cars", ron taking him up years later, ron taking a risk and investing millions in hamilton and his insane raw talent and now the fact that a hot shot rookie with the right breeding is pummeling ass only 6 races into his maiden season.

i mean its a fairy tale movie script for sure. i wouldnt put it past any film producer to have the idea at the back of their minds that they could turn hamiltons 22 year life into a movie.

americans love a good fairy tale story like that....thats why its on.

But a red light is still a red light, and Kubica had stopped at that red light and Fisi and Massa both drove around him. They both admit they made a mistake too.

Kubica's crash made front page of the Advertiser here in Adelaide today!!

thats probably becuase ITV dont control the live video :p

I think it is more to do with him being half black.
