2008 F1 Car Launches

I'm wondering if it is current, because they didn't use this nose at last testing(Tuesday).
Maybe they abandoned this idea.

^^^ It just says that IT WORKS AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS

Is it just me or does the top "hump" on a lot of these cars finish quite a long way before the back? The most obvious ones are the McMerc and the Ferrari. Is this new for this year? (Apologies to Z102 for nicking his pictures)

For example look at this BMW.

The McMerc

The Ferrari

I think that the engine cover fin's purpose is to use the Coanda effect (discovered by a Romanian scientist; it's about the airflow following and "sticking" to the closest surface to it) to smooth out the airflow to the rear wing and eliminate the turbulences caused by the airbox.

McLaren have had that since 2004 and their MP4-19B. The regulations were changed that year forcing teams to enlarge their engine covers to appease sponsors. In 2004 most teams built the covers as they usually would've as per the old regulations, then appeared to add a fin to the back in order to comply with the regulations. It would appear that these designs are now becoming far more evolved and possibly they've found there are advantages to maximising the size of the engine cover.

Hope that made sense, its almost 4am and I've just hit up my whiskey stores...

Force India confirms Mumbai launch

Saturday, 26, January, 2008, 13:06

Force India has confirmed that it will launch its first Formula 1 car in Mumbai on February 7.

The team, formerly known as Spyker before it was bought by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya last winter, is expected to base its 2008 challenger on its current chassis albeit with significant aerodynamic developments.

According to Reuters the car will then run for the first time at the final Barcelona test prior to the start of the season on February 25.

Italian veteran Giancarlo Fisichella, who has signed to race alongside Adrian Sutil in Force India, already believes that the revitalised team is making progress under the guidance of technical director Mike Gascoyne.

According to the 35-year-old Roman, the team can realistically expect to move away from the back of the grid, based on his own findings in testing at Valenica this week.

?Even with lots of fuel and scrubbed tyres we were closer to the other teams ? it would have been interesting to see how close we got ? but we are definitely making progress and going in the right direction," he said.

?I?m pleased with how it?s going.?

Chalk me up for liking it too. It's worlds better than the ugly black and green monstrosity of last season. I'm really liking those stripes on top of this new one.

it looks pretty good, but i thought they'd ditch the earthdream theme?

I almost snorted my drink when I realized this is coming from someone who, if I remember correctly, claimed to like the Renault livery.

I think the new Honda looks very good. Godwilling we'll see a return to competitive form this season and next.

You know the proverb: Tastes are not to be disputed/mocked...

They wanted to combine original Honda and last season earth livery. I think they failed. It is the ugliest car so far.

It looks a lot better than las years GreenFail.
I want you guy's opinions. What the hell is going on with the white coloured cars in F1? There's only a few teams that don't use white as the primary color in their livery.

White reflects sunlight, which keeps the engine cover cooler, which allows them to run their radiator about a millimeter less open...

I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH :love:
