2008 SRT-10 Revealed (the 600bhp one!)

very nice indeed. One thing I have noticed, Dodge have used that Viper shape for a long time now, what its been 11+ years? Not that it is a bad thing just a passing comment.

Chrysler has revealed the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ? a more powerful version of its popular two-seat sports cars. It will arrive in Dodge showrooms in North America this summer. The SRT model gains an additional 90 horsepower from the new 8.4-liter powerplant, for a total of 600 hp and 560 lb.-ft. of torque.

Zero to 60 mph takes under four seconds, and 0-100-0 mph is completed in just over 12 seconds. The Viper SRT10's 8.4-liter engine breathes through new cylinder heads equipped with CNC-machhined combustion chambers, larger valves and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). VVT electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are open and closed according to engine speed and load.

The Viper SRT10's V10 channels its power through a new, smaller-diameter, twin-disc clutch. The transmission is the latest evolution of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual, known as the TR6060. It features 10 percent wider gears for higher torque capacity and a new synchronizer package. Stopping power is another key attribute of the Dodge Viper SRT10 formula, with 14-inch brake rotors gripped by Brembo dual opposing calipers, good for 60-to-0 mph in less than 100 feet

Note sure yet how I feel about the "ladder" wheels on the striped-version...I give credit, though, because I haven't seen anything like it before...

The wheels are gross... and, don't mean to beat a dead horse, the interior looks especially revolting... even for an American car.

Fucking conservative Dodge.

Never been a fan of the Viper.. Though the performance sounds very nice indeed.. :)

But that interior.. Our Suzuki Swift seems like a nicer place to be than that.

The steering wheel should only look like that if the center disc is stationary, like a Citroen C4...

I think the part that makes it look the cheapest, is the steering wheel...how the whole mass just looks like one big injection-molded plastic hunk. The "spokes" should be aluminum, or car-paint-color-matched metal. I don't mind how...utilitarian the dash looks, though...makes you feel like you're in a race car, or an airplane.

Interior, with maybe a screen on the center console and a better steering wheel would be not bad at all. Other than that, <3.

I love it's shape. I think it's very agressive, and anywhere in the world one would recognize it as a viper. And that looks goes back to 1992, isn't it? As Jeremy said, a mad car...
Question: This 8.4 engine is just an evolution of the presente one, right?

If this showed up in the guess that car by interior thread, I would never guess it belongs to a Viper. It looks soooooo horribly cheap! I really like what they did with the rest of the car. Those hood slits look mean!

Meh

Yeah, but it's American. So nobody should give a shit about it because it's a plastic wheelbarrow made from lolsprings and lolaxles and lolpushrods and lolsixtyfourpercentobesityrate. And the interior causes rabies.

Fucking conservative Dodge.
:lmao:

I think that the Viper's biggest problem still will be the Corvette Z06. For a considerably lower price you get basically the same performace in a straight line and also the far more sophisticated car (high-tech aluminium chassis, magnesium roof and engine cradle, CF and kevlar bodyparts and transaxle) resulting in a considerably better handling car.

However, the Viper gots clearly an appeal, it manages to tickle out the 10-year-old boy in me, and that's what supercars are about. The Z06 is the logical rational choiche for such a performance car, however the Viper still gots this bruteish charm that ignites some boyish excitement in me...

Just out of curiosity I have checked what this car would cost me:
Buying price US: ~$85000
Taxes:
- Veight - $13989
- CO2 emissions - $76598
- Power - $136056
- Recycling - $207
- Total taxes - $226851

Sum up, a Dodge Viper would cost me about $315000.

To put things into perspective a Corvette Z06 would cost me:
Buying price US: ~$65000
Taxes:
- Weight - $9427
- CO2 emissions - $42847
- Power - $107981
- recycling - $207
- Total taxes - $160464
In total the Corvette Z06 would cost me about $225000.

The Corvette Z06 is just $10K less than a $100K saving over the Viper. So the Z06 remains not only as the performance bargain, it makes the Viper pretty much pointless over here. The taxation system is the same for all new cars, a 997 Turbo costs $280000, a 997 GT3 is $255000 and a Jaguar XK8 is $200000 over here, so it's not that this system is deliberately biased to punish american cars. Btw; a Ford GT was recently sold for $431809.

the performance is great, but it doesnt look too different on the surface

If you're disappointed by the interior, then the Viper is over your head.

Bingo. Can't believe people are complaining when the car makes 600hp. Grow a pair guys.........
