2008 US Presidential Elections

apparently we can look forward to another clinton in the white house . <_<
if she starts to do anything that i think will screw up the economy more , i will have to look at my options .
am i the only one who is considering other countries ? does anyone else see the sun setting on the status of this country in the world ?
i am sad to see it but i feel like an observer .:(

btw , does anyone on this forum live in a country with no income tax ? how is that working out ?

I'd seriously consider Canada if she were elected, no joke. Canada is basically the same as the US except a little farther north and a little colder and I can handle the cold being as I'm only a few hours away any way.

New Hampshire has no income tax but it won't be that way for long if this Democratic sweep lasts much longer and our no sales tax will probably follow along with it, leaving there to be much to live in New Hampshire for.

I need to check but i think Brunei has no income tax. The only problem for you is..... you'll need to stop the drink ;)

canada is culturally similar to the us but attempting to be european , from what i have seen . and they seem to know how to run their economy . i just dislike living in cold weather . the bahamas , on the other hand ... :)

from wiki , brunei : The sale and public consumption of alcohol is banned. Foreigners and non-Muslims are allowed to bring in 12 cans of beer and two litres of other alcohol (e.g., wine or spirits; no distinction is made for alcohol content). This limit used to apply to every entry; in 2007, however, this was changed to one limit every 48 hours.

aha ! a loophole ! :D
actually i don't drink hardly ever , curiously .

anyway , how is brunei ?
and just to keep relevance , i wonder how it is to live in a place where there are no elections .

I don't care for Clinton much, but I do agree with her universal health care plan. And it seems like she has the balls to push through the massive health care lobby there is now.

Oh, also I remember reading a story last election about whiny liberal democrats threatening to move to Canada if Bush was re-elected president. So some Republican wrote up a faux bill to utilize Military C-130s to ship the whiners free of charge to Canada. Darn, I wish I could find the link. Anywho, you don't want to be like that do you.

Brunei lives off the income of oil & gas. You are probably aware the Sultan there is the richest, or one of the richest people on the planet.

I've never been there but medical standards are excellent and free. Education is free but i don't know the quality and i believe the population there is quite well looked after. With regards elections, you don't need them if the people are being taken care of and remember it is a very small place so is quite easy to do.

At this stage it looks like you guys are down to a McCain / Clinton final.

one can only hope ... despite the evangelism :)

i guess that means canada's out :)
it depends how bad things get . there are some economists that are predicting that there could be an economic depression ahead .
i have possessions here , mostly tools , that i would probably have to sell if i left , and i do not want to sell them but it would be a matter of where to put them . anyway , i am weighing things .

come to think of it , i think i remember reading about brunei in 'Investment biker' by jim rogers . they must be doing pretty well nowadays considering the price of oil .

Sorry - Atheist are causing problems in the US? Why are they going around knocking on doors annoying the hell out of householders trying to persuade them to not see the light? This should be stopped!

Atheism is the de facto religion of the United States.

Further more, Ron Paul is about as racist as he is communist.

Expanding upon that, supporting a candidate because they have a chance to win is asinine. How do you think we arrived at this mess in the first place? The American people in 2004 didn't vote for Bush, they voted against Kerry. With that in mind, any candidate not named "Ron Paul" nominated by the GOP will lose. John McCain is like a lite version of the Democrats, Mitt Romney wouldn't bring out the Christian base, and Mike Huckabee is a populist. None of these are consistent with what once were the principles of the Republican party.

If you really think McCain is just democrat lite then you really don't know much about him and have been listening to too much conservative talk radio.

McCain is a moderate republican but he is by no means liberal.

Modern Republican = Neoconservative.
Neoconservative = Right-wing socialist.
Moderate = more to the "center".
In other words, McCain is a semi-socially conservative socialist.

Put in a different perspective, once upon a time the Republican party had principles.
Free enterprise, self responsibility, that sort of thing.
To believe that these values can be compromised upon is to believe in these values not at all.
Although the party of today follows only the principle of wealth accumulation, I still believe in the party of old.
McCain apparently doesn't, as is indicated by his/your label of moderate.

As far as the GOP field goes (aside from Paul), they're mostly the same, aside from Huckabee, who's horrifying in a way all his own.

Also, I listen to NPR. If I had ovaries, I'd bear this man's children.

Romney pulled out today in his speech to CPAC, while almost the entire crowd was waving Romney campaign signs. Whether you want it to be so or not McCain is the Republican nominee.

The bastard didn't even pull out properly. And he endorsed McCain. What the hell?

My feelings for the man went from disdain to pure hatred in... 10 really boring minutes.

I don't think he said right out that he was endorsing McCain, I didn't see the whole speech. But he realized there would be no way for him to win and all he would end up doing is hurt the chance of a Republican winning the general election. He wanted to leave McCain as a strong candidate that might have a chance of winning, despite McCain not being a real great choice he still holds some positions that the Democrats do not that some feel are make or break issues. Many said he was trying to improve his standing in the party by pulling out early when he still had some what of a chance just as Ronald Reagan did in '76.

I don't quite get why people hate him so much myself. Many said that his speech yesterday was his best speech and that if he had been like that for the whole campaign things might be far different.

I'm guessing he didn't want to spend more of his own money.

^ Trying to get the vice president birth, with McCain perhaps?
No, John and Mitt don't get along at all.

I think McCain is a good candidate for the GOP. He speaks his mind, but is able to admit when he is wrong. Right now, he seems like the only candidate able to break through all this partisian bull shit. And he does not tolerate any-form of pork barrel politics or other little games some of these politicians play.

Maybe because this time he was saying what people wanted to hear..... i'm out.
