Chrysler revealed the production Dodge Challenger to dealers in Vegas last week, and while we're certain it banned all manner of cameras from the event, saying something's banned and enforcing said ban are two entirely different things. Let's just say that they failed on the enforcement part, because OntarioStreetCar.com has phonecam pics of the car, and it is very true to the concept, overall. The main changes are the presence of a b-pillar under the side glass, a small lip spoiler on the trunk of the SRT8, and a slightly extended rear bumper to meet crash test requirements.

OntarioStreetCar reports that the Challenger arrives in March as a 2008 model. That first run of 5500 cars will all be 6.1L SRT8s equipped with automatic transmissions priced at $38,000. Starting in July, the MY09 Challenger will begin production, and the range will expand to include the 3.5L V6, the regular 5.7L HEMI, and of course, the SRT8 with the 6.1 HEMI. And finally, the best news of all: on the '09 Challenger, both HEMI flavors will be available with the T56 6-speed manual transmission. We'll see the car in person at the Chicago Auto Show. Welcome to the 21st century ponycar wars. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

The profile looks terrible. The hood has to be much longer for it to look like a Challenger.

If I had $38,000 I know what I would be buying.

I dont care what any of you say- how bad it will drive, how it will be unreliable blah blah. There is no way I cannot have this car in my life. Its about feeling with this one, not sensibility.

edit: I just saw the larger pictures, I thoroughly enjoy the rear end on this car. I like the real world taillights compared to the concept's.

I like it a lot, although I can see what bartboy is saying about the hood...

Camaro for me, TBH.

I think it looks about right. Look at the drivers seat. Half the car is the front hood. Any longer and it would look ridiculous and handle worse thanks to a longer wheelbase. It's about proportional to the classic Challenger if you compare them.

^Hmmm, I see what you are saying. Something still looks off, I said the same thing about the concept car but can't quite place my finger on it.

But it doesn't need to be a carbon copy of the original Challenger, I think it looks better than the Charger and maybe even the Camaro.

I prefer the Camaro myself. Beats the hell out of this! I used to love it, but now.. not so sure.

I think it's brilliant. Who knows, US auto makers might win me back yet.

There is a god!!! :woot: I always hoped the car would look as good as the concept but a big part of me was convinced that they would change it all and ruin it. Better still, this should put some big pressure on Chevy to keep the Camaro as close to the concept as possible.

Prefer the Camaro, but still love the challenger. Sorry mustang, your last.

The telephone camera pictures of the car are distorted. The car looks much shorter and higher than it really is in the profile and rear 3/4 views.

Photograph your own car with a camera with a zoom lens using wide, mid-point and telephoto settings. Fill the frame with the car on each setting and compare the results.

If it were distorted, wouldn't the wheels be oval, rather then perfect circles?

No, the wheels/tires wouldn't look like ovals. Compare these pictures. The difference is apparent, though nowhere as exaggerated as the Challenger photos. Same car, same suspension, wheels, etc. Which one looks longer and lower? (Please resize the photos.)

It looks like a mid-seventies tall Japanese two door coupe..... Could be because of the shitty Camera Phone photo though. Something about it doesn't look quite right. It looks too narrow. The Camaro somehow looks more modern and exciting.

My thoughts exactly. Ford did a shitty resto design job, Dodge did an amazing one, and GM managed to pull off something akin to Porsche's styling theology (not a styling revolution; an evolution of the original design). I'm surprised they're offering this thing with a V6 though. I guess it doesn't cost them any more to do so, the Challenger being an LX chassis car and all. Also, any word on whether or not they'll offer a T56 in other LX cars?

God damnit, they HAD to put the B-pillar in didn't they...

but JESUS thats a good looking car, Mustang/Camaro, eat your heart out!:mrgreen:
