2012 United States Grand Prix

I'm sorry, did you really? Alonso made up 3 positions... only one of those was overtaking a "dirty side" car, Hulkenberg. The other positions gained were Schumacher, in front of him, and Raikkonen who was pushed into a very bad line into the hairpin by Schumacher. Those two were mistakes by the other guys, bad line choices, call it whatever. Alonso chose a really wide line into the hairpin on the outside, and launched like a bat out of hell into the next short straight. That's all that happened.

And to think I'm only an 8h drive away from it...
Try being ~15-20m.

I SO WANT TO DRIVE THIS THING.

I actually saw Tilke at a party afterwards and had to resist the urge to be Yet Another Knob pestering him about "dude, nice work--I must drive it now."
Webber's KERS failed again and this time it also killed the car... possible future problems for Seb?
Have I mentioned how much I hate KERS today? Cool tech when it works, but in the race, it's just a load of bollocks.

So, let me mention how much I hate KERS. GTFO KERS.
I think Massa deserves a stiff drink after this for the amazing drive he has had. From 11th to 4th.
Seriously. He clearly got this track from the start. Alonso--not so much. Massa was faster here, plain and simple. I LOVED seeing Massa briefly pull back ahead of Alonso. LOVED.
Rick Perry seems to have got in the spirit

(Why, yes, that was a "Perry is in the closet" joke.)
This was a fabulously entertaining race, and looks to be an AMAZING racetrack. Now that I'm properly employed, I plan on taking a week off to go to this track next year. Bravo, Austin. What a show.

Wear a sombrero to this race.
1. Shade!
2. Billions of thumbs-ups from EVERYBODY. Especially Perez fans. Even if it's dark blue.
3. SHADE, GLORIOUS SHADE! My face is not burnt to a crisp and I spent all weekend outside. Awwwww yeah.

McLaren brought more shiny things in the parking lot:

I got to ride in a 997 GT3 Cup car around Harris Hill after F1 was over and it was like seeing the track in fast forward. Unbelievably quick.

$26K split among your 24 closest friends!

I've heard rumors of other (less expensive) trackdays via SCCA/NASA/PCA/usual suspects. Supposedly they'll be more expensive than your usual MSR-Houston/Harris Hill/Texas World weekend, but less expensive than...$26K divided by 24.

There's a Cadillac event there on the 8th that I'm going to, too, which hopefully includes some laps in someone else's cars, hehehe. Can't freakin' wait!

How come no one mentioned that part of the build up to the Austin GP, was a brawl involving 17 strippers

Did it involve a pool of jello? If not, meh, white trash fight :p
