2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe officially debuts, priced from $41,425

The F32 is 26mm (1.02") longer, 43mm (1.69") wider, but its 16mm (.63") lower and the overall ride height is 10mm lower (.39"). So it did not exactly grow massively unlike many other cars with their successors, but its still a tad longer and wider.

As a comparison, the S5 is only 0.2" shorter than the F32. If you want something smaller, it's going to have to be a 1er or A/S3.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how hard it is for people to wrap their head around the new naming order. When the E92 was coming around the German magazines where pretty sure it was going to be named the 4-series, so it's been coming with the for at least 5 years.

I don't know if my memory is going to hell or not, but for some reason, I can recall reading rumors about this in the late 90s.

I was just starting to read about cars back then, so I couldn't say, but all the big German car tabloids where confidently saying 4-series in the lead up to the E92.

and it isn't as massive as the S5.

Oh yeah, I didn't realize the fairly noticable weight difference.

EU-spec weights:
S5 (7-speed DSG, AWD): 1750kg / 3858lbs
435ixA (8-speed Auto, AWD): 1590kg / 3505lbs

But that can be less:
435iA (8-speed Auto, RWD): 1525kg / 3362lbs
435i (6-speed manual, RWD): 1510kg / 3329lbs

So depending on the drivetrain there is an advantage of 160-240kg / 353-529lbs.

I expect their straight line performance to be pretty much 1:1. The S5 has 30 hp on the 435i but as mentioned the BMW is lighter.

Being the fanboy that I am I hope they stack up something like the RS3 vs. M135i :
