Someone Else's Problem: 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI

There’s that and since it wasn’t major (I found it in the side lot and snapped some pictures. I’ll upload later.

That's a bit more than a *bump* "oooops" .

It's more of a *crash* "FUCK!"

Oh for sure, I’m wondering the person moving the other vehicle was relying on parking sensors or something because that’s a decently hard hit.

Exactly. This looks harder than the regular parking lot hit.

Looks like a parking lot hit to me, even a 1.5 ton car moving at 5kph does damage. And here you can see only the plastic crap is damaged.

That's a handsome car and bummer what happened at the dealership. At least your dealership sounds like its taking full reponsibility and none of it is on your head.

Yeah, they were good about it.

So, the whole reason my Golf was at the dealer was for resetting the oil change light (3,500 miles in 10 months) and fitting new winter tires to the set of wheels I got off craigslist. It snowed a couple weekends ago so I went to test everything out.

It’s good in the snow. I was surprised at how little difference there was between between the continental all seasons on my company car compared to the Bridgestone winter tires on my golf. Probably not a great comparison but, with the snow that came down in my area being slushy and only just being below freezing for a couple days may have something to play into it. The snow was really wet and the ground was cold enough for snow to accumulate (we got 4 or 5 inches) so I figure that was enough. Turning and acceleration was a little better. Really the only difference was, I tracked forward under acceleration and traction started to decrease, and turning corners was a little bit better. Studded tires aren’t allowed here so these are studless blizzak winter tires. Overall, I think the winter tires and wheels are more to protect your nice factory wheels over anything else.

We're up to 5,200 miles. Still no check engine light. Is this a real VW? :D

For real though, I'm still thrilled with it, it's everything I want in a car without being boring. Yes yes, Golfs are the "you didn't bother to look at other options" choice, but I've now had 3 Ford products. I do wish I could drive it more as I'm not fully confident with it. Compared to the Jeep Patriot company car...

Today marks 1 year. Regrets? None whatsoever. I just want the weather to warm up so I can put the Austin wheels back on. This weekend it's going in for the one year service which involves an oil change and tire rotation. Neither of which I feel are needed but, maybe at least the oil being a year old and having gone through many heat cycles with the turbo. shrug

Did the winter to summer change yesterday.

Love the plaid and the third pedal!

Congrats man! These look so much nicer than the R version!
Huh? I like GTIs but it's hard to argue against more power and AWD (even if the price is ridiculously higher).

I dunno. I’m with loose on this one. GTI is the sweet spot their lineup (because the price jumps a fair bit up after that), and Flareside kitted it properly with the stick and the tartan interior.

Finally did a thing with the Golf. I took some time off to go down to Austin Texas, needed a break from the frustrations that is work and to say 'hi' to the one and only @ninjacoco

After reviving the 411, we went for some laps on H2H.

My take with an official instructor.

The instructor takes the it for a spin!

"WHY IS THIS NOT A VOLKSWAGEN PEDAL?!" Hahahahahahaha.

Fair warning: Instructor is VERY rusty at driving and also not an actual instructor.

But it's noticeable how much faster you start. Knowing the track counts.
