Before adding my two cents to this thread, I think it's only right that I add my name to the list of people shocked and saddened by this tragedy. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victims.
Yeah a number of networks have realized the backlash (especially NBC, which had all of their interviews with Tech students and their families declined since they started airing the videos), and have decided to drastically reduce the amount of airtime they give it.
A very big reason that they've stopped airing it so frequently is because it's part of the old news cycle. There's no reason to
air the tape if there's nothing new to report
about the tape, and therefore no reason to offend or hurt anyone further. Believe it or not, there are still some journalists with feelings...
As an aside, I know there aren't a lot of NASCAR fans here, but I think we can agree on the kindness of Ward Burton's team...
