I don't remember when was the last time I enjoyed TG this much. Recently they couldn't get it for me. This hit the spot and I wasn't sure why, until someone pointed this out. Finally it was something new, or something long forgotten. They had a story to build on and not those fucking pointless challenges. I will treasure this episode for the next 5 years again :).

Hm, pretty good by today's TG standards. The Lexus film seemed like just an excuse to do a remake of the LFA film (when the original one was better), but it was still solid. Also getting properly mad at a car is its own reward. The Canada film was above average for a Top Gear comedy skit, because at least it felt somewhat real and took effort to make, even if the joke itself wasn't great (funnily enough it felt a lot like, and that is a compliment, the TGUS stuff in that vein). So yeah, 7/10.

WARNING: I'm biased on this one and if you have a problem that, in the words of Hamster, you can shove it up your ass.

10/10. Fucking. Awesome. Television.

Succinct review of the RC-F... and my only weak spot in this episode occurs in this film with the LFA. Love seeing it, but they've already reviewed it multiple times... it didn't need 4 minutes of airtime again.

The news was GREAT!! They did it again, they started with quick, nerdy car stuff. Even afterwards, the news was relatively on point with only one long winded barely car-related story.

Gillian Anderson :wub::wub::wub:. I mean, I loved her on X-Files when I was a teen. Here, now in my late 30s, I find she looks fabulous. And that accent.... oh my god. It helps that she appeared to be engaged and enjoying herself as well.

Lastly... obviously, the raison d'etre for my giddiness. They finally came to British Columbia. And my god... they did it right. Forestry roads aside (i.e., the ones where they did the last leg of their race on Wolf Mountain) I have driven every kilometer of their trip multiple times (including that exact Canadian Tire). I knew at every single moment where they were in BC just by the frame. I loved it. I loved that they had rugged trucks for rugged terrain. I loved the cinematography. I loved the locations. The film itself is equally deserving, because it was fun (Richard "stabbing" James in the cock made me laugh out loud), it was factual, and it didn't feel like a rehash of anything they had done previously.

Bravo, gentlemen. Come back again. Anytime. As it says on the signs when you come in from Alberta, "the best place on Earth."

FYI for those wondering... this has been an ununusually mild winter for BC, so that snowfall is relatively mild for those mountain ranges. Even had they done this one year earlier, I bet it would have been a lot harder for all parties involved.

In other news, yes, go spend your money in the Kootenays! (which is where they were). Hot springs, wildlife, few people and a couple gorgeous lakes in the summer. It's lovely.
+ 1 000 000. We live on Vancouver Island now, but I have every intention of buying recreational property somewhere between the Kootenays and the Alberta Rockies. I may never leave.

That was how I felt when I first heard her natural accent for the first time some years ago. It was like ordering your favourite meal in a restaurant then finding out it comes with a side order of a jackpot lottery win.
You and I have the same taste in women, evidently.

I really liked it, yet most didn't.

Guess that's because I hated the ambulance episode, and most didn't.

what are you on about? Most of the comments are positive and the poll shows an overwhelmingly positive reaction. People liked this episode in general.

Definitely need more pick ups on Top Gear.

Loved the episode! Jeremy basically said the exact same things I think about the RCF. The only good thing about it is its V8 soundtrack. Loved the LFA film. Some great shots of the car drifting on the track and the weather was beautiful, but it felt a bit like 5 minutes of 'advertising'.

The news was great as usual, with a good balance of mocking and some actual news.

Gillian Anderson was wonderful! I was always a fan of her as I had been watching The X Files since I was a kid. Didn't know she liked cars though, or that she had a Boxster and then a 911.

The Canada film was beautifully shot. I loved the VelociRaptor even before it was featured on Top Gear, thanks to Tanner Foust driving it on the American Top Gear back in 2010. Both the trucks reflect each of the presenters' personality so much! And Canada itself is scenic and beautiful. Plus we got to see Hammond's angry side. This was proper Top Gear.

This was a truly entertaining episode.

The Canada sequence was (of course) totally staged but effective escapist fun. One niggle: pretending a super-exclusive, megabuck Hennessey-tuned Raptor is the equivalent of an off-the-lot, luxed-out Silverado gentleman cowboy special that costs is a little silly.

The Lexus review was not only beautifully shot (as usual) but also apparently correct (judging by other reviews).

Skipped SIARPC as I was tired.

Very entertaining episode, the pickups fighting their way up the mountain was pretty simple car porn! This season has been the best in a long, long time. Hope they continue the good work!

9/10

Good episode. I would have preferred if their review of the trucks wasn't based on the premise of rescuing Hammond. I also would have preferred the Raptor to be stock, not a Hennessey-tuned vehicle. Earlier this season they said nice things about the C7 Corvette (base model, not even the Z06). Now they've warmed up to full-size trucks. I find this very refreshing.

Most of all though, the mention of the primate study bugs me. I've searched extensively (only on scholar so far, not a proper database) and I haven't been able to find this study. Furthermore, I know that getting such a study approved--if indeed the aim was to determine whether or not adult primates would actively kill their young to preserve themselves--is next to impossible these days (at least in the US). There is plenty of evidence of infanticide in several primate species but these studies are primarily conducted in the wild and are considered "naturalistic observation," i.e., the researchers don't manipulate anything, they just sit and watch.

Just further proves that they don't put any actual facts on the show, I guess.

Well, I would agree with everybody's comments and opinions on it being highly rated, but I highly appreciate and agree with the Lexus RCF Review.
The only thing I was confused by is how on earth did they shatter a driveshaft on ice? Maybe rock-crawling would result in that but I'm still wondering how on earth..

the experiment involved monkeys, not primates.

here's why i came back here - the part when james and jeremy are booking their vancouver flight - what did jeremy mean by saying it would be idiotic for the bbc to go to manchester?

More expensive flight? Additional costs of transferring to Manchester?

This was recorded before or after they sent Hammond to the mountains anyway.

I don't remember having crush on Gillian Anderson when watching X-files as a teenager, but damn she is cute.

I wasn't expecting much from this episode seeing the Lexus review and no doubt extremely scripted segment from the preview of this episode.
I wasn't wrong, but it was still ok episode after I had set the bar low enough, with the rescue segment somehow being enjoyable. Lexus segment I just could not care. Lexus just doesn't do it to me in any level, not even LFA.

7/10

I think it's an in-joke. BBC moved most of their operational departments to Manchester a few years ago (which is why we had that Top Gear race in Broadcasting House a couple of series back.)

Something about the BBC moving jobs from London to Manchester. I have read it somewhere but I can't find source anymore. I think it has to do something with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaCityUK#BBC

Much in the same way Americans don't understand Europe's love affair with a hateful little shoe box car that has as much power as a mobility scooter, Europe will not and cannot understand the pickup truck.

As an America who understands the pickup truck, this episode was absolutely incredible. My favorite now with the ambulance being bumped to number 2

i honestly dont know what everyones problem is, i found the episode to be quite good except the lexus segment.
