thanks massy :) You're dead right and I'm happy that you've added your own piece. I love learning about the history of cars and that's, in part, why I'm doing this thread.


Austin Mini Cooper S

Although we're due to see a new Mini this year (yeah, I know, this is old info) the original sold for about 30 years. The quickest of the bunch was the Mini Cooper S, which was a Mini modified by Formula 1 car contrustor John Cooper. The car proved amazingly fun to drive despite its squat appearance. Many owners raced them.

As I'm going to be heading off tomorrow - here's a few to keep you busy until Monday:

Saturday is defintely Porsche Spider

Sunday... Springbok maybe? Or Impala or something, cos thats the animal, the shape of it anyways...
 
No way! :shock: I checked all my books and some very good web sites, but I didn't find it. One good site has lots of pics about hood ornaments, but the oldest Chrysler ornaments are from 1934. That thingy is two years too old! :D Great that you got that, it bothered me quite a lot.

2001 Acura RS-X Concept

About a year before the new Integra replacement was introduced, Acura gave us a peek at what it would look like with this RS-X. The Integra was the lowest-priced model of the Acura lineup and brought a high volume of customers into the Acura fold. So this RS-X represented a major portion of Acura's sales.



Friday's was:


1951-1955 Mercedes-Benz 300S Cabriolet

When the 300S cabriolet was introduced in 1951, it cost more than $12,000 dollars. The "S" stood for - no kidding here - "super" and signified an extra 35 horsepower, 150 total, that the S models had over lesser 300s.


Saturday was 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder - well done to whom got that and Sunday was Chrysler as correctly identified by MXM. Top work guys! :)

Monday's:

1968 Lamborghini Espada Series 1

Bertone designer Marcello Gandini gets credit for the low, flat shape of the Espada, a four-seat luxury tourer named for a bullfighter's sword. Based on the Jaguar Piranha and Lamborghini Marzal show cars, the Espada had a 3.9-liter V-12 breathing through six Weber carbs generating 325 horsepower.

2001 Dodge PowerBox Concept

Imagine a 320-hp brute that gets 25mpg. That's the kind of promise Dodge made with the PowerBox. The company said the use of a natural-gas-burning V-6 engine coupled with an electric motor would provide efficiency so far unheard of in the sport-ute segment.



Wednesday's:


2000 Hyundai Neos Concept

This one is pure sports-car fantasy candy. Designed in Hyundai's Japan-based design center, the Neos has a carbon-fiber body and cycle fenders. It's propelled by a mid-mounted, turbocharged 250-hp four. Shifting duties are the work of a six-speed sequential transmission.

1992 Shelby Cobra 427SC and Dodge Viper RT/10

Crude, cantankerous, and nasty are words that describe Shelby's Cobra. Yet when we brought these two cars together, the Cobra was the quicker of the two. How? It weighed almost 1000 pounds less than the Viper but had about the same horsepower. Remember: Lighter weight equals more speed.
 
Bah, Power Wagon, PowerBox. I have that Car and Driver issue where that and the NEOS (awesome concept, even if it did come from Hyundai :p) are featured; I just can't find it.

Got more info on that Jaguar Piranha?

Also, on a slightly unrelated topic, I'm going to brag about going to the Rolex Vintage Festival at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut, where they'll have a dedicated show of Shelbys old and new. But what I'm really psyched for is the chance to meet God Himself, Carroll Shelby, and get his autograph. :woot: I'll take lots of pictures and share them, don't worry. (Though they might take a while to make their way here; I'm using a film SLR.)

Mercedes SSK (Super Sport Kurz), worth a fortune today. 7069 ccm, 6cyl, 225hp and a top speed of 200 kph - very impressive for a 1928 car.

The SSK was fitted with Mercedes' largest supercharger, known as the "elephant blower." It force-fed air into the engine, generating more power. We have no knowledge of what kind of noise the blower made, but the super-charger was very good for performance, with racing SSKs generating more than 300 horsepower.
