In 1982, we called the 928 the perfect example of a GT car. It's also the symbol of corporate planners gone haywire. At one time, Porsche expected the front-engined 928 to replace the rear-engined 911. "Nein!" shouted Porschephiles. Today the 928 is dead, and the 911 is more popular than ever.
Don't confuse this BMW with a boulevard cruiser. It's fast and wild and an absolute ball to drive
Friday: 2002 Infiniti Q45
The Q45 started life in 1990 as a quick, competent executive express, which promptly flopped. Few bought them, so Infiniti softened the car extensively. But that didn't work, either. So last year, Infiniti went back to the Q's roots and supplied its new flagship with a 340-hp V-8 and crisp handling.
Da man, Enzo, named this little car after his son, Dino. Ferrari aficionados thumbed their noses at this car, which wore no Ferrari badges and shared its V-6 - a Ferrari design - with a Fiat. The car looks like a Ferrari and sounds like a Ferrari, and its unloved status means sub-$100,000 prices - rare for a vintage Ferrari.
Tom Gale, Chrysler's executive V-P of product development and design, said the heavy-duty Varsity "combines the versatility of a five-door hatchback with the Grand Cherokee's off-road capability." A 300-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 was coupled to an electronic four-speed automatic and shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system.
And from today, I'm going to start posting two a day:
In 1993, Lotus developed a special version of the Esprit intended for competition use. As you can see by this photo, the race car was very close to the street car pictured in the background. The 300 in the name refers to the output of the turbocharged four-cylinder engine. You got it: 300 horsepower
2003 Cobb Tuning Subaru Impreza WRX
Cobb Tuning took a holistic approach to juicing up Subaru?s four-wheel-drive sports sedan. The company not only installed a 450-hp, 2.5-liter flat-four engine but also flared out the fenders so they could fit larger tires. The complete makeover was the closest a Subaru has ever come to being a supercar.
