mid 05' would make it a 2006 model year car. just for those that didnt know.

doesn't look as agressive as the previous I think ..

What does Porsche want? Going back to the old model..so what's next?
Restyling the "old restyle" of the "new" 911 to an even "newer" 911?
After 40 years or so it's kinda time for a new design...they're like this  :|
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh droooooool Frame stopped 40 years ago

i agree. when i first saw the 997 carrera i was a tad bit confused :? . i didn't know if i liked it or not. Porsche's idea of bringing the old design into a new design doesn't really tickle my fancy. Time to move on, don't you think?

so clarkson was right about the 911, same car for 40yrs, lol.

yes they do need something different, something wild, aggressive. its a better car in terms of numbers and performance than a ferrari but the looks arent exciting or desirable as the ferrari.

the classic roof line shoudl stay, nothing wrong with it, but everything from the top of the door downward should change. lights rear and front, side all should be new minus the roofline.

This is like the 996 with retro headlights. Not very creative to say the least.

But if I am only given a choice between the wacky "new" styling of the Cayenne and this retro look of the 997, I will happily accept the latter.

lol yeah if thats porsche's idea of creative, the cayenne, then ill gladly accept the new 911. lol

I kinda like it. Dunno if I like it more than the current model, but I still think it looks good.

Yeah really check that grill. It doesn't fit a Porsche.
It looks like he's smiling with a deformed mouth and dorky eyes...
And that rear..exhaust pipes in the middle...did they want to make it as simple as possible? Check that rearbumper + left and right fender, that just one shape with no details...it reminds me a bit to a 928GTS

I understand Porsche on this one. 996 wasn't really completely accepted by Porsche-owners. You know, water-cooled, no round headlights etc. While 933 was always highly desirable. Now late 993 is sometimes more expensive than early 996! Of course I'm not talking about GT models or Turbos, they are in it's own class. It's not all about agressive-looks, it's about keeping customers happy. If I had to choose now between latest 996 and 997... I would go for 997.

^^You have a valid point, I've also read somewhere owners disliking the looks of the previous 996 - mainly cuz of its "futuristic" (I use this word, cuz any change in the 911-chassis should be rewarded with the word futuristic-since it hasn't changed in the last 20 yrs...) headligths-and this only!! So what do Porsche do: they are very very customer-orientated. So when the product-manager finds out from marked-investagations that they're losing markedshares to other brands AND that lojal 911-owners turn their backs to the 911 ONLY cuz of its design--Porsche is willing to do WHATEVER its takes -- in this case -- make an ugly/old/nonfuturistic chassis so customers are happy. Prostitutes!!!!!!!!

Yes that's true and frankly I can't blame them. There are not that much people that can afford a Porsche...so if that small group sais "Oy Oy don loike id" Then Porsche has to say okay we'll change it, of they don't they lose a lot of precious buyers. But yeah prostitutes...all for the money :|

Yeah, but even as a marketer, I do think you should sometimes go with your heart-and not follow instinct to your wallet.

BMW has followed their heart and made bold new ranges of cars that look stunning, not beautiful thinks many-but they dare at least!!!!

Follow the time we live in ....

Oh well.. You can call it that way, someone can consider it loyalty to customers. While it's called 911, it should look like 911. And ugly... well, it's very, very subjective. I think it's second best looking 911 after 993.
I would call them prostitutes if they would make something Ferrari-style sexy-agressive-looking-thing just to sell more to those who wants something new and cool and flash and expensive, rather than keeping true Porsche enthusiasts happy.
And if you look at that... They have survived so far without selling themselves to any giant-carmaker and still making profit and still able to make something like Carrera GT. They probably know what they're doing.

True but that's still a big part of the game, what do the majority of the people think of this car? Just look at the prototype of the Opel Astra
news25mars2.jpg

And look what they made of it:

Really not bad and I prefered that prototype, but that?s not what the majority wants. Prototypes are often too sporty, and that?s mostly not the people they want to sell an Astra to.

the prototype is almost identical lol. the mirrors headlights and front bumper changed....heheheh

this new porsche is awesome i think. stupid companys like bmw are making all these weird changes to classic good looking car design just to "stand out" and differentiate themselves...while porsche just makes a nice lookin car. imho of course =]

Meh, at this point, I'm still going to put the 996 Turbo at the top of my wishlist.

I'll have to wait and see what the 997 Turbo looks like...
