This sounds really cool

http://www.a1gp.com/home.html

Its a new race series endorsed by F1, FIA and almost every country involved with motorsport. Its susposed to be something to do in winter...and its very natonalistic...23 countries were asked to be involved...from asia, africa, europe, North and South America...each of which has 2 cars

the cars are all the same...each team is given an unbiased engineer, who is there to ensure that the cars are the same...

each country who partisapates gets a race in their country.

520 HP, 600 kgs, every one with the same car

that sounds interesting :)

aparently JPM has been offerd a drive...but asside from that i dont know...I just heard about this concept last night...and i think its really cool.

they put out a DVD in the jan issue of F1...a buddy of mine has it and is going to give me a copy...when he does ill post i to sombodys FTP

This could end up being a really interesting series. They certainly doing a good job of marketing it, and they have quite an interesting car too. I just hope there's decent TV coverage here in Canada.

Some years ago there was a similar project for some football (soccer, for the americans) teams, where they would have a car with the team colours, and a driver of their nacionality. I guess this will born from its ashes. I remember Manchester United, Benfica, a spanish team, a french team, and others were signed on the project, but we stopped hearing anything about it.

Ah yes, Premier1 Grand Prix. That's as dead as a...really...dead...thing (I couldn't think of anything better  ).

The Formula Superfund car (pic here) that was supposed to race this year, before everyone realised that GP2 and the Renault World Series were far better places to compete, was actually born out of the ashes of the P1GP project.

is this the series being backed by a very wealthy oil sheik? If it is they wont run out of money thats for sure. looks good.

yes it is...and it has a buisness plan...

the scary thing is that noone has mentioned tv rights...so im thinking its either going to be contracted locally...in which case boo (but i doubt it given the internatonal competition on which it is based) or its going to be something global and quite interesting.

atlast, the world cup of cars :p .. that'll be interesting..

Yeah and it looks pretty interesting.

At last my country has been asked to participate in a racing event. But one question... Where on earth in Pakistan will they race???? We don't even have descent roads down there and no racing circuits either.

I think I better sign up too as a driver.

Don't think the Sheikhs will back out...they have enough money....

I wonder if F1 is supporting this so they can use it as a feeder series? they have been talking about a more competitive and inrernatonal series to recruit new drivers from...and if these cars use some of the F1 tracks...this would give new drivers much needed track experence away from a simulator

could be a great place for less experienced drivers to enhance their skills and make their way into F1....

My feeling on this series is that it will be a dud. There are a lot of formula series already around, (Champ, formula mazda, formula atlantics) and another series with a bunch of media coverage based on nationality may not go anywhere. To get into Formula 1 there is already Formula 3000. I mean, watching Champ cars is sorta silly as it is because there are a crapload of teams so there are more crashes than usual. I like watching compeitive racing, not a bunch of crappy drivers crashing a lot. Formula one has its own interesting aspect because teams build the racecars so the best driver could be stuck with a bad team. with A1 its like watching a bunch of really fast spec miatas going around the track.

And besides... who is gonna race for America... Jeff Gordan? He can only turn left.
