Adrian and his trusty sidekick crossing the Americas - Summer-Fall 2015

I'm just disappointed that he took along a photographer and there are hardly any pictures. :(

So Ronja needs parts again? :(
She's been needing that tie rod replaced since she barely passed MOT some months ago.

You'll need to check the housings to see if they have Philips head or the idiot tamper-resistant screws. If the latter, I *don't* have the driver for those as I milled off the original ones and used stainless steel screws instead on mine.
If you'd like, I could check with a few BMW specialist shops about the cleaning and regreasing needed.
They're Philips and have recently been opened and redone. For some reason one of them is sticking in certain situation. Just want to open it up and see what's up to decide from there.

Has she ever really stopped? :dunno:
Just like you.

She's busy editing roadtrip pics to further spite you :p

Now that you've complained, I'm not posting anything >:c

And you go on a big us roadtrip with her in that state??????

It's not failed or catastrophically bad, it passed MOT no problem but got a notice that it was on its way out. There's a slight shake from 110-140 kph. Haven't had the time or found a place until now that could do it on my timeframe.

EDIT: The "barely" isn't related to this, that's the xenon fronts and tinted rears :p, sorry shouldn't have worded it like that.

In my experience, that's a sign that the motor in it is on the way out. It's usually a brush/winding failure, with a smaller but still significant chance the bearings are failing. Neither is available separately from BMW.

Can you check the defective unit to see if it has any part numbers or other identifying information on it? I *might* have a spare motor in a left over E32 throttle body.

Either way, you'll need a replacement TB gasket, which is not available in most auto parts stores here. It will have to be ordered and (hopefully) sent in.

I have been informed the roadtrip is coming my way. I'd be happy to join in a mini-meet. There are a couple automotive and many airplane-related sights and activities if you would be interested. The Packard auto and US Air Force museums come to mind. Let me know!

Depending on when the shop in Indianapolis can get a new tie rod in stock we're leaving Milwaukee either tomorrow evening or the morning after. Then a night in Indianapolis and we'd be in Ohio the following day again :)

If you drive through Columbus...honk at me!

Any news, guys?

I think Fairlady is still a little behind with the photo processing which may explain the lack of news.

According to the Book of Faces they were at the National Air and Space Museum yesterday in the company of Space Shuttles and SR-71s amongst other cool things.

and now they're locked in your dungeon?

Still on the east coast after a month? Didn't realize just how big this country is, did ya? That's why we complain so much when gas hits $4/gal, because it's 500 miles between every interesting place.

We would have made it further if this wasn't the third time i needed wheels straightened. I'm also still locked out of my own bank account.

Are the roads bad there then? or is it aggressive driving? :p

and locked out of your bank account? they think it's someone who's stolen your card then or something?

The roads are fucking terrible. Some places there's up to 10cm height difference going from road to bridge for instance. And some places where the concrete blocks they pretend is asfalt has slid apart, they fill it up with some weird asfalt mix seemingly just made of tar and massive rocks. It expands and creates a 3-5cm jump every five seconds. I don't run on rubber bands either, 35 (or 40?) profile front and 30 rear...

As for the bank, my employer preemptively ended my contract and since i have BankID via my phone i no longer have access through that number. Finally got the bank to agree to change to a foreign number today, but turns out that doesn't work. Either i get my employer to reactivate it (which he's being slow to respond about) or wait for the manual code chip thing to get mailed to my dad, who then again has to mail it to me. Estimated two weeks.

Michigan roads are one think I do not miss from my trip. Around here they are marginally better.
