I posed this question in the "Earth at Night" thread.

How long before space travel becomes public? and Do you believe there are other life forms in the universe?

The question isn't whether there are other life forms out there, it's whether or not there exists another planet that had enough time to develop another intelligent species. I think that it's impossible, with the size of the universe, that there isn't a planet out there that can support basic life. The chances, though, that another planet's developement coincided with earth so that there would exist two intelligent species at the same time are quite rare. I can't remember where I heard that claim, but it sounds good to me.

without limiting it to an "intelligent" species or life as we know it. I think that the massive nature of the universe is preciesly what increases the chances that there is some other type of life form in existence.

Perhaps it could be some crude form or a form more sophisticated than us, doesn't necessarily have to conincide with our development.

Normal space travel.......maybe 150 years from now, maybe a lot more at the rate we're going.

Does Extraterrestrial life exist, yes, the universe is so large and expansive that it would seem pointless for Earth to be the only life-supporting planet.
I mean they are doing tests now to see if there is life on one of Jupiter's moons....

I don't know, it just seems that there would have to be other forms of life in the universe. But ET wouldn't be in a conventional form that we may think it would be in if we find it. It would, of course, be adapted to its environment.

I for one don't buy into this UFO/Alien Abduction nonsense.

Unless we are talking about "light travel" like from that movie K-PAX with kevin spacey

I'm gonna hijack my own topic. What about time travel? Because, if one were to believe that some time in the future...maybe even 2,000 years from now (or even 5,000), time travel could be a possibility....wouldn't that mean there could be a time traveller among us now?

Back onto other lifeforms....

Of course, that's the premise the show 'The 4400', great show btw, people from the future 'abducted' 4400 people and sent some of them back with special abilities to save the world. :)

Thats an interesting idea firecat, indeed a time traveler could be among us now if it would be possible in the future. Go ask Mr. Hawkins what he thinks.

Isn't he dead?

*edit* Nevermind, maybe not. Who the heck was I thinking about...hmmm

Never heard of this show, what channel?

I know i'm jumping around like I'm going through some kind of worm hole

But what about parallel universes?

Have you seen 'What The Bleep Should We Do Now?' Good movie, check it out if you haven't already. Parallel universes, exsist, why wouldn't they.
And 'The 4400' comes on the USA network.
There's also torrents on mininova too, that's where I watch them :)

I think Parallel Universes are a neat idea and it is entirely feasible, albeit a bit mind-boggling. But if you time travel once, then you have 2 universes, if you do it again then you have 3 or 4 universes right? And so on, that makes up for a lot of universes each time you time travel.

I'm going to check out that movie Cruzz. thanks.

The only thing bad about discussing stuff like this, is that its is mind-boggling and hard to comprehend.

You pretty much said what I think. :)

Now, time travel is just too confusing... :?

Time travel can happen. We only know we can go forward and not back though.

Doesn't mean we can't go back.

Hmm here is an idea. Maybe every UFO sighting we see is a person from the future travelling back in time to see what life was like.

ooOOOooooOOooOOoOOoooo

I was like, okay this could be making sense until they throw in Crop Circles!!!! You have got to be kidding me!!! If that was the cause of crop circles, then it would be totally random as to where the forces are, and then you would have an attempted crop circle in the middle of a city. Doesn't make sense. And then in the last paragraph you have an advertisement for a whole set of crop circle postcards?!?! Not believing that article after reading the last 2 paragraphs.
