There have been some rumblings in recent months about USB connectivity problems with AMD Ryzen processors in combination with 500 series chipset-based motherboards. To be more specific, the problem seems to stem from USB 2.0 ports that act erratically when PCIe 4.0 is enabled on the motherboard and a PCIe 4-enabled device is installed -- like a GPU, for example.

Went down the rabbit hole of ones of the discussion threads on a German tech site about this... according to people there:
  • Somehow connected to using pcie4, downgrading to 3 fixes it.
  • Some people are having similar issues on intel (non-pcie4)
  • Nobody there was talking about usb2 at all... everyone was going on about high bandwidth & high power usb-c devices like VR headsets.
... edit: the Editor on iPad here is driving me crazy!

also: as someone who just bought a B550 board, I don’t care ?‍♂️
