Surprise. I sold my 2003 Toyota Altezza RS200 for a 1994 Civic hatch back..

Why?

Well I briefly mentioned some stuff in my Altezza thread, one of the major things being that while it did handle nicely, it just didn't feel right to me. Hard to explain but it had some characteristics I found strange, and not the kind which I wanted to get used to.

This, plus that fact that I've been kind of missing my CRX made me make up my mind.

Here it is:

Strange as it may sound I'm a lot happier with this than the Altezza. I also have extra money for fixing my MR-2 now as well :)

Proof of ownership up soon.

Already done some work to it.

Headlight were yellow/hazy so fixed that.

Before (looked worse in real life):

After:

Also the car made all kinds of annoying beeping noises when inserting the key into the ignition with the door open. I thought only cars for the American market did this??
Anyway there was no way in hell I could stand that noise.

This is the circuit responsible for the pain:

Here is the same circuit with its voice box removed:

The silence is nice.

Man I wish it was as easy as it is in NZ to buy cars :D

It takes such a long time to organise everything here!

Edit: And yeah nice car! We had an Altezza as a company car and I felt the same way about it, something weird going on there.

That's an odd progression.
Congrats? :dunno: :p

Looks good :)
It's a D15, but what version?

Very nice, original looking, car! Like it, and the wheels are cool!

Thanks!

Ok, so although the paint may have seemed alright in the pictures; it was actually not..
So I restored it with a lot of polishing and some cutting compound.

This is what I meant, all faded:

That is so clean. Try to find an unmolested one over here. I love it!

Good job!
What machine, pads & compounds did you use?

I'll find the details tomorrow, but the I used a simple machine polisher (random orbital motion) on medium speed with a flat foam pad. For the cutting compound I used the sold stuff (not liquid compound like 3M) called cut and shine or something which is normally to be used by hand. You apply it to surface then wait for it to go hazy before buffing it.
Initially applied quite firm pressure on the first pass, then gradually lighter pressure.

Really nothing special and I don't have any expertise with paint work, just know the basics.

Another minor update:

I bought this OEM front sub frame reinforcement bar which was a stock item on a DC2 Type R.

Here it is intalled:

Originally there was no bar on my car, but the holes were there from factory.

'80s-'90s red is so rewarding to work on, as it improves so much by polishing.

Alright, you made it a lot better than it was anyways :)

Thanks.

One of the things I really didn't like was the very high seating position of the stock seats. I knew it was something that had to be fixed.

So I bought these Recaro SR3's (OEM seats for the Integra DC2 Type R):

I also needed rails from a type R DC2 to fit them to the civic, this way no aftermarket bracket or modification to car was required. Seller had them in storage which is why they are wrapped up.

I recovered some money by removed and cleaning under the original seats (unfortunately no pics after cleaning):

Here they are fitted:

Impressions: Wow, a pair of sports seats can make such a big difference. The new seating height is perfect, much nicer gear changes and its easier to do heal and toe. Plus I can tilt the steering wheel down a bit now so that its pointing more towards me when driving.

Of course they also hold so much better in the corners.

I hope it stays like that forever! <3

Wow, I haven't seen one of those that tidy since I was a wee Rick in the early-mid 90's. Nowadays if it's not at the scrap yard, it's likely clapped out to within an inch of it's life and/or filled with mods of questionable taste.

Awesome ride!

You are either quite good at photoshop or this really is a rare umolested old Civic. "Old" in a good way, mind. :)

Awesome 90's wheels there.
