Anthony Bourdain

Did anyone watch The Layover? I thought it was great.

It was like a faster-paced version of No Reservations, which is a good thing, as long as No Reservations does come back. Again, I could have done without the U.S. locations, although San Francisco was entertaining.

The Layover and No Reservations is kinda gonna overlap, as far as I understand.

I'm really enjoying the new show aswell, even if some locations are a bit... boring.

I've enjoyed this new season immensely. Even though a couple of locations really do nothing for me, (sorry London) Bourdain's style could pretty much make a visit to crappy old Perth seem like it was worth the ticket.
Season highlights have been Singapore (some really relevant info given out in that one), Montreal and San Fransisco (both eps really made me want to jump on the next plane to places I had never really had too much interest in before)
Any word on what other cities lay ahead?

Wha, wh..at?

The problem this show might have is that Tony will go to places he might personally be very interested in, while there are loads of other alternatives he could have done. For instance, London has so many innovative and interesting restaurants at the moment, but none of them were highlighted.

I'm not having a go at London's restaurants and I do get why people love the place, but London is just one of those places that really did nothing for me. Maybe if I spent more time there, but I certainly didn't get that instant infatuation with the place that I got with some places I have only spent a couple of days in (hello Kobe).

Rex, are you from Perth in Scotland or Perth in Australia? If you're in Scotland, then I completely understand what you're saying about not being interested in London.

I feel the same way with just about any time Bourdain does a place in the US. I'm just not interested in seeing any of it because the place is not that different to me. When he goes to a country outside the US its something new and exciting to me, so I'm interested. When he goes around some American city and they get people on camera telling me why that particular place is the greatest in America, I almost just ignore it and roll my eyes.

That is what made me love Top Gear so much initially. It showed me places I've never seen before and showed me cars that I will never see because I live in the US. Top Gear America is boring to me because I can only take so much California or desert scenery with cars that I see on the road every day.

Things you're familiar with just aren't exciting, and that makes them all the less interesting.

No Reservations will be back April 9th!

Austin and KS have distinct cuisines so i think they're pretty good choices.

shall see how he likes Finland and its cuisine.

well shall see.. we do have some quirky traditionals that might be interesting from a bourdain point of view.

I hate all the episodes with that Russian guy! I mean, in Ukranian all they did was drinking! In the firs drinking part, they drank more than 10 people could drink! I know Russians can drink, but that much on that pace! The sun didn't even go down and they drunk waht 5 litres?

Ugh. The American locations always end up being jokey and feel thrown together. Could do without Zamir too.

Kansas City;
The good: This was no reservations food porn at its finest. Money shot after money shot of meaty awesomeness.
The bad: Ugh. Zamir. Maybe he's the worlds greatest raconteur off screen, we'll never know, but fuck me he drags an episode down.
Hopefully that's the last we'll see of him this season.

Needed more Black Keys.
